I have been a VT fan since I attended the university in 2002. I have gone through Bryan Randell, MV2, Sean Glennon, Tyrod Taylor and Logan Thomas. Everyone of these QBs took a bit of time to gain faith in them. Michael Brewer came onto the campus in May, won the starting job with one week till the season starter, and by the second quarter of the OSU game, I have never felt more relaxed with a QB at the VT helm. Compared to Logan he's a shrimp. Compared to Tyrod he's a sloth. But to me he's just so relaxed and under control that it rubs off on me (no homo) and I love it. In only two games he's become one of my favorite VT QBs. Anyone else feel this sentiment?

Not to nitpick but it's *Randall. But I agree.
Damn, TKP going hard on you this week.
Lol! It's ok. I'm used to it. And hey, if I can take the flak off or for anyone else, then that's fine.
jeeze, were the downvotes necessary?
His decision making skills are something we haven't seen at Tech from a QB in a VERY long time. Its very impressive. So far his two "faults" are: Size and arm strength.
Right now I'll take the former over the latter two all day
Hard not to have a man crush on him.
all that needs to be said
I have a woman crush on Brewer. One minute I'm talking about how badass his performance was this week and the next I'm flipping out about how adorable the "I'm supposed to say I am" comment was (no, really, if you look at the hokies tag on instagram I'm sure you'll find the clip of him saying that for my #mcm). Like I said in another thread, it's like Danny Coale all over again. I think he's beautiful and I'm not ashamed.
Was he looking into the cam when he said that? If so, pretty sure he was saying it to you.
Yup, actually the video was cut short, his full answer was, "I'm supposed to say I am...that's for HokieGirl on KeyPlay" *wink
No, I don't think he had to wink. I think he just had to look directly into the cam.
I totally think he was. ;)
You sure are MB12!! And we are SO glad to have you.
Haha no joke girl!! Hottie texan QB!! :)
Sure doesn't get much better than a good-looking QB from the south/Texas ;)
No, not at all!! :)
There are so many Archer gifs and pictures that would likely be very crude and offensive right now...
In related news, I may or may not have drunkenly created michael.brewers.best.friend@gmail.com
Exactly. I have this email address now and nothing I can do with it because it is just too creepy.
He's got some dreamy eyes, you guys.
Brewer was poised and confident on Saturday. Being in the stands, you could see him on the sideline calm, joking, talking to his team mates etc. It was a breath of fresh air. Most especially the touchdown drive after anOSU tied it up at 21. Ice water is running through his veins, and I'm glad he is a HOKIE!
Being 2-0 helps start the mancrush. There is a lot of good to be said about the other guys. I don't want to put him too high on the list yet. He is saying all the right things, doing all the right things, and from what people say is a great lead-by-example guy. Hopefully he keeps it going this year and next.
Randall. What a great leader. Handled the expectation that came with playing after Vick (I know Grant Noel was first). Handled the 2 Qb system they ran with MV2 well, never mouthed off, quiet leader who maximized his abilites.
Logan was a workhorse that answered the bell each and every game, did what he was asked to do, never NEVER complained, and gave everything he had. Respect the man.
Tyrod was awesome, 1,000 watt smile, fun to watch and was amazing.
Glennon. It wasn't his fault that he wasn't Vick or Tyrod. Had some good moments under center for us.
MV2..he did beat WVU..let's leave it there.
For me, Brewer can be put above MV2 and Glennon, but in the Mount Rushmore of VT Qbs (in my time),
Vick, Randall, Logan, Tyrod.
Might be able to sqeeze in room for Vanilla Vick, but I want to see his whole body of work first.
Don't get me wrong, Randall is still my favorite VT QB. He broke me in as a Hokie.(No homo again)
Good points but my point was that he makes me comfortable at QB and it only took two games.
For sure. The man is a gamer. He made smart decisions, never got rattled (even after that fumble that led to the tying score). He handled the noise level, checked down, threw away when he had to, felt pressure, stepped up.
And whatever QB that has confidence in his abilities to throw a lofting pass up the sideline as he is floating out of bounds must have trouble finding pants that fit his massive onions
Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I'm Brewing as much as anyone, but another day could've meant an entirely different outcome. That throw across his body (barely) over a LB on the 1st series could've easily been a pick instead of a 3rd down conversion. That Rogers 3rd down conversion down the sideline was the same way, I look at it and can't help but think that it's an incredibly stupid throw to make. He ended up on the lucky side of that one and we're all praising his moxie but that could easily go the other way. He under threw several passes and was bailed out by receivers a few times, so my nerves are going to be on edge for a few more games at least. What I think we can all say is that he is tough as nails, isn't afraid to take risks and doesn't dwell on mistakes which gives him the potential to have a nice couple years in the 'burg.
agree and disagree with you. You are correct, those 2 throws are not exactly good decisions, but I guess if you had to dissect what a great QB really does one thing would be to make the plays when there isn't a play to make. Now I certainly don't want to see those types of throws much, if at all, but he made them both accurately and confidently. And it's not like he was choosing to make those throws all night. Also you see the time in the redzone when he got flushed out the pocket and he threw it away instead of forcing it. Seriously smart decision. So I get where you're coming from but I am also getting the feeling that Brewer knew exactly what he was doing on both of those throws.
Maybe, just maybe this our year where we get those bounces. For far to many years we were on the opposite end of them.
Logan on your Rushmore?! That has to be a joke!
He had one good year because everyone was afraid David Wilson would get the ball.
Amazing athlete, mediocre quarterback.
In terms what it means to be a Hokie, I'm not sure any player can touch LT3, he answered the call of duty game in and game out. With social media at its highest, he stood strong against the most scrutiny that any VT QB has ever had to withstand. He was not the best QB in terms of decision making and accuracy, but he single-handedly won us games that we probably had no business winning.
He has joined Bear Gryles and Jason Stahom as my man crushes. That's good company right there.
I need to plan accordingly so that I can get a picture with him... Perhaps next spring game.... LOL I feel like I'm the creepy overly-attached girlfriend meme.
That is strangely both attractive and creepy.
cleary today is #mancrushmonday
Probably #toosoon for a Ray Rice joke here...
As a Ravens fan...
As a
Redskins"Washington football team" fan, I feel ya, buddyProud to be a member of the Brew Crew.
The thing I like most about Brewer? I don't cringe when the ball is flying down the field anymore. I don't expect an interception. When the ball is in the air, I feel hopeful, not scared. This guy is a dyed-in-the-wool quarterback. We don't have to teach him how to read a defense, or anything else that should come naturally to a quarterback. He just has the poise and knowledge of the position and the game to just be able to play without reservation. This is the first time in my Hokie fandom (starting my freshman year of 2000) I've been able to say that about a QB, and it's a breath of fresh air.
I agree, I felt the same way. Another thing is that he did not get discouraged after the early INT, and came back strong the next drive. He did the same after the other turnovers as well. Past QBs might have had the same determination and didn't get discouraged but they tried to come out and play hero ball the next series instead of just remaining calm and moving the ball down the field.
As others have noted, this is still a small sample of games. That being said, I have full confidence in our quarterback and I think he will have a good season.
Our own Aaron Rodgers-esque QB. Mobile but more dangerous throwing down field.
I'm in on the Brew-Crew.
Gotta love how he keeps his eyes down field while avoiding defenders in the pocket. VT QB's in the past would try to scramble for a few yards once the pocket broke down.
Spinal Tap amps it up to 11. VT amps it up to 12. #BrewCrew
I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying that on Saturday night I probably would've let Micheal have his way with me. From the sheer number of times my wife has brought him up since Saturday I'm pretty sure she feels the same way.
In all seriousness though, the kid is a gunslinger. More than a couple of those passes could have been disaster but he made the play. I feel like he's our Brett Favre out there, there's gonna be amazing passes and costly INTs that should've never been thrown. I'm just along for the ride man, be gentle with my heart Micheal.
I can forgive any under throws and a few mistakes solely because he was running for his life at moments.
