Scot Loeffler has to take great joy in quieting the 'Shoe

The guy played and coached at Meeechigan, and now he strolls into the 'Shoe, an unassuming underdog with the "lowly" Hokies. And, he executes a *very* nice game plan. I'm no X's and O's guy, but I know football. And he executed an excellent game plan against a top-5 national OSU defense.

Brewer, our OL, WRs/TEs will get much of the credit. And well-deserved it is. But, let's remember what Lefty did here. It was an excellent game plan. And, I am convinced we are starting to see what Lefty and the O staff can do now that we have the "Jimmy and Joe's" to go with his "X's and O's".

He must be on cloud-9!

Go HOKIES!!!!

Looks like Brewer and Loeffler will overcome the hoos 3rd Down Defense

Not going to lie, i'm still worried about ECU next week.

will this ever end?

Not for fans like us that truly care, no. I had the same thought earlier today. Great, we beat OSU - now the most important thing is beating ECU. They're a good team. And we have to play them at noon. We'd better treat every game as if it were as big as the one we just won.

"Exit light..."

I can only assume that Frank wants them to get all the celebrating out of their systems now and that tomorrow's practice will be very much looking forward instead of back.

I think so, too. Of course, we heard the classic coachspeak from Beamer about building on the win, etc. I do get the sense that there is heightened focus this year and our guys want to prove something. I'm hoping for no letdown, and I think our coaches will have our guys' minds right during this week of practice. My main concern is that our guys that got nicked up will be good to go by Saturday. I was having heart palpitations when Kendall went down.

"Exit light..."

No letdown - that is the key.

We've always had the D.

We have an offensive scheme now. We have the skill players. We have the supporting cast.

So long as we stay focused, and healthy, it is hard to imagine a loss on the schedule.

Yes - ECU is a classic trap game.

But we have several things going for us.

The team is young, and hungry.

The coaches have tons of film on ECU and experience dealing with them.

We aren't playing them on a short week.

And most of all:

We have a Sam Rogers, the Dork Magic Wielder.

Yeah, the players get one day to celebrate, then back to work. Actually, I'd bet heavy money that Brewer will be studying film at some point this afternoon with Loeffler. Fans can celebrate for a few more days, but the players will be getting after it in short order.

First practice of the week is on Sundays, so they will have to forget it sometime today!

What's
Important
Now

Yeah, that team makes me nervous. They held their own w SC.....

Yep. This big win means nothing if you don't follow up next week with an even better performance.

I must give Loeffler credit. I was not a believer. But I was wrong. Damn wrong. That team out there last night played with HEART.

"Worst part of the game 'experience' for me was that for an entire quarter and the beginning part of halftime the VT fans were dominating the Shoe. Kudos to them. Made me sick." - Ohio State Fan

The great thing about Loeffler that can NOT be overstated is that he formulates a sound offensive strategy that is both logical and consistent. It evolves as the game progresses, sensibly allowing for the strengths & weaknesses of the opponent. But it remains very understandable and very rational throughout the game. At NO time during the game are we fans left to wonder - 'Why the heck are we doing that?' Nor are we easily able to predict - 'Here is where we always go to X play'. Loeffler's talent and abilities are evident. He might not sample from the latest trending offensive philosophy often, but when he does, it always seems like a rational and reasonable attempt at the right time.

We have had NONE of that be applicable to our offensive strategy for over a decade prior to his arrival. I am hugely grateful we have it now. It's one thing to do that against an FCS opponent, but he did it on a HUGE national stage last night, and it doesn't get any tougher than that. He's a great hire, in my book.

There was one thing that I questioned at one point - why Brewer was taking so many runs that looked like they were designed that way. I could understand that we needed to have the threat of a run in order to open up the pass, but sending Brewer out to get pummeled a few times didn't sit well with me for a bit there.

Now, of course, I don't mind it, since he didn't get hurt and we won.

Most of this game is a beautiful blur in my memory punctuated by amazing plays, but one of the big things I do remember is that at no time was I wondering "why in blazes did we run that play there?"

I am no X's and O's guy but our offense seemed to me to be very well thought out and the results speak for themselves. Now our guys need to build on this and go out and destroy ECU. GO HOKIES!!!

Some of those calls on the last TD drive were ballsy as hell, and the kids executed beautifully. I'm still not sure if I believe it. The feels man, the feels.

Hopefully someone, somewhere caught video of it, but Loefler was going absolutely nuts with his players down on the field after that game when the players came over into the corner filled with Tech fans. Huge hugs, and he even got up for a chest bump too. You could see the sheer joy and excitement from him and his guys after that win. So awesome to see.

Solid. He deserves it. Would love to see video of this.

SO......looking ahead.
You're ECU's defensive coordinator.
You've just witnessed a VT offense where the QB can make accurate short/medium throws and can run, disciplined WR's that catch AND block, TE's that are all over the placed, and a 3+headed monster running game that can truck defenders.
What do you do?

Look for a new job

Defend the pass and challenge us to run. Hope your D-Line can slow the guys at the LOS and your LBs can make plays. I wouldn't say our run game was a huge success against W&M and it wasn't much against anOSU so that would be where to expose the team. That and challenge Brewer's arm strength. Brewer leads the ACC in passes >10 yards, but many are because of YAC, not because Brewer threw a 20 yard pass.

Where to?

Saw this excerpt from Urban's press conference after the game, and he was referencing bringing recruits in for big games:

"We always talk about the high risk. Do you really want to schedule all those official visits? It was such a great atmosphere. Our stadium. We risked it last year against Penn State and Wisconsin and Nebraska the year before... It was awesome. The crowd. That was the loudest I've ever heard any stadium."

I remember one conversation during the game between the PBP guy and the sideline reporter. The sideline reporter said that the dB meter was showing that the sound level on the field was just over 100 dB. That's pretty loud. During the 2011 Miami game, they showed a sound meter on the sidelines registering 121 dB. That's jet-engine loud. If Saturday night is the loudest Urban's ever heard a stadium, I can't wait to hear what he has to say after Labor Day, 2015.
