Not much you can say about the situation other than its disappointing that it has taken this long for it to happen. Supposedly, the NFL had the video that was made public when it originally happened and they reviewed it before suspending him. If that's the case, it looks real real bad on the league for the team to cut him now, only after the video went public.

I can't believe that the NFL didn't see the video and if they hadn't see the video they didn't really do an investigation. Just bad all around.
a while back, peter king reported that the NFL had indeed seen the footage. if proof that they already had the footage comes out, expect: SHITSTORM INTENSIFICATION
The NFL pulled an NCAA
The Ravens did the right thing but just at the wrong time. The NFL really shit the bed with this situation. This should have happened when he was first charged
NFL is saying they requested the video initially, but weren't granted access by the police. However, there are conflicting reports saying they saw the video and are just trying to save face now that the public knows what actually happened.
On a side note, I'm surprised it's taken this long for the video to leak.
The casino where this happened recently got shut down, so i am guessing everything not nailed down was for sale including this video. I am surprised tmz had more money to pay for it than the NFL though...
TMZ wanted to see the video, the NFL did not.
That's the key. i would not be at all surprised to learn that Goodell refused the opportunity to view the video. I do feel certain that he knew his office had the video, but that he directly said - 'Do NOT show me the video'.
Agreed. Plausible deniability. I he was ever asked what was on the tape, he wouldn't have to lie to say he hadn't seen it.
That should finally send the message.
Don't hold your breath.
Hey, pro athletes: don't do stupid sh!t! Play sports, make millions, die happy. That's the whole plan.
the NFL and Ravens are a joke.
I'm assuming you're excluding T-Mobe from that.
More directed at the Ravens front office, but Joe Flacco is a joke too haha
Haters gonna hate
lol definitely not
I think this is the image you wanted:
And now I have to change my fantasy football team name. It was Ray Rice's Punchout, but after seeing the video I am a little shocked.
He is getting what he deserved, and he is suspended indefinitely from the NFL... Not that he is even good anymore lol.
Well, looks like Bernard Pierce stays on my roster past week 2.
These athletes need to realize that domestic violence is no joke. Unless you're old...and drunk...with effects.
The worst part of all this is that Rice was not suspended early. The fact the video just came out is really immaterial. Anyone who saw the video of Rice dragging his fiancee's limp body out of the elevator saw all they needed to know. The NFL has long condoned this type of behavior. Goodell is gutless and hypocritical. To pretend the NFL never thought to request the video from the casino is ludicrous. Personally, I think the NFL saw the video, and Goodell did what NFL officials always do with domestic violence by their players. He essentially ignored it, giving Rice a completely weak penalty by any account. Then when the public reaction was negative, he came out with a strong stance, while conveniently still excusing the Rice wrist slap. Now the fecal matter has hit the fan.
All the NFL mouthpieces act shocked about this. What did ANYONE think happened inside the elevator? Now, suddenly, because of the nuclear public reaction, suddenly the NFL discovered a way to get Rice off the field, when they pretended there was nothing that could be done before.
The last thought is - what if Rice had rushed for 1600 yds, 20 TDs last season? How much weaker would the penalty have been the 1st time and be now?
This exactly. What did people think happened between the video of his fianc and him walking on the elevator together and the video of rice dragging her unconscious body out and dropping her on the floor? Did they think she fell asleep?
Am I the only one that thinks it's a little ridiculous that the NFL just changed their minds about his suspension and gave him longer? He hasn't done anything new! It's crazy how the media can have such an impact on the outcome of situations. Not a Ravens fan btw if anyone was wondering
Well considering the NFL relies on the public for it's source of revenue, and public opinion shifted drastically when this video become public, they changed it as a PR move.
Frankly, I believe it should have been done when this all first happened, and I think it's a joke to consider the NFL and Raven's decision anything other than a PR move to stop the bleeding of an already terrible decision.
The issue I have is the lack of consistency in this new rule.
After the blowback on the two game suspension, the NFL adopts a rule with the first offense being 6 games, and the second offense being banned.
Then, when the video comes out, Ray Rice is suddenly vaulted to the second offense category. I could understand if the NFL upped the suspension to 6 games, but going all the way to indefinite suspension just seems like double jeopardy.
I don't agree with what Ray Rice did, but I think the aftermath has gotten a little crazy. This newest video almost should have been a non-factor. I mean, we already knew he beat her unconscious on the elevator....does the "how" really matter here?
To anyone hating on the Ravens, there is absolutely no chance they saw this video before today. Absolutely none. They would not have supported him if this were the case.
And since I'd imagine a decent bit of the hate is coming from Steelers fans, your quarterback is a rapist and still plays.
The only way the Ravens didn't see the video is if the NFL didn't show them for some plausible deniability bullshit
I don't think they should have supported him in the first place. He knocked his fiance out.
To anyone hating on the Ravens, there is absolutely no chance they saw this video before today. Absolutely none. They would not have supported him if this were the case.
did they think she was narcoleptic?
If you think the Ravens didn't see this video then you are kidding yourself. For starters, what casino that exists doesn't have cameras in the elevators?
Seriously though, how did they think a grown woman who entered an elevator conscious, exited it unconscious, and was with a guy that admitted an altercation between the two got that way?
If they couldn't put two and two together they might be dumb enough to give Flacco an elite contract.
The Ravens should absolutely be ashamed of themselves for trotting Harbaugh out there last night to talk to the media while the ownership and GM didn't have the guts to answer any questions.
The NFL should be ashamed of themselves for thinking we are dumb enough to believe they didn't see this tape. The NFL's security team is largely made up of former FBI agents. They don't have more resources to get their hands on this tape than TMZ? If it was a bidding war for the tape, the NFL has way more money than TMZ.
The NFL has lost all credibility and Goodell needs to resign immediately. If he won't resign, the owners need to replace him immediately.
Agreed, and here is why. There is a trail that has appeared. That trail involves the extent of knowledge the NFL had regarding this situation, and why they either didn't act on the knowledge or chose to not pursue more knowledge.
Goodell blew this, just as he blew BountyGate with his ego. The problem for him is this - he can't just be punished by the owners. He has to be fired. If the owners only punish him but allow him to remain in office, then all 32 owners will be culpable in the implicit condoning of physical abuse. So... Roger Goodell HAS to be fired.
Here is something to consider. Did the Ravens - or Goodell - WANT to see the video? Because they could have seen it if they merely asked.

TMZ claims they will release evidence tomorrow morning that proves the NFL saw the video before Rice was initially suspended. If true, this could be the end of Roger Goodell.
And - one day later - an AP reporter provides concrete proof that a copy of the video was received by the NFL office and viewed. I don't know if that is what TMZ referenced, and actually I hope it is not. But... Goodell's ego overrode his knowledge of how TMZ works. They have just scored the biggest coup (in the American Indian definition) in NFL history.
There's no defending ray rice. Glad he's gone don't need another ray Lewis ordeal. (Ravens should stay away from guys named ray).
Looks like they'll need a running back, did Dallas keep RMFW?
Signed him to the practice squad.
How is he not in jail if the cops have seen this. That's worse than the NFL keeping him in league.
Somebody could be getting paid and this may only get worse.
Ray Rice is a rich man, that's why.
Exactly. For further reference, just review the Jim Irsay case. Look at how he skated.
My understanding is that his wife refused to press charges. They got married after the incident and she has apparently been very vocal in objecting to all the media attention to what she considers a private matter.
Some states or counties will require a charge to be filed where others will leave it to the discretion of the victim. I don't know the specifics about this situation, but if she refused to file charges, public defamation and league punishment are the only real penalties here.
Per a letter from the team's owner:

Too me one of the worst parts of this was Ray Lewis chastising him prior to MNF. While both are despicable people I think most would agree that a premeditated double homicide with a knife is much worse than a fight that got way out of control. Both of their asses should be in jail imho...
No kidding!
Ray Lewis kept saying how the two situations are polar opposites. Well, yeah... Ray Lewis, you killed a guy, Ray Rice only left bruises (albeit in a horrific despicable way). You both should be in jail, and Ray Lewis should be in there for a much longer sentence than Ray Rice.
Incorrect. Ray Lewis didn't kill the guy, he watched one of his group kill the guy. Then he refused to rat him out. Because he was the name and the money stream, his group got him out and destroyed the evidence so that he would continue to provide the money stream.
That doesn't make Ray Lewis not culpable, but it's well know one of his guys was the killer, not Ray Lewis. He was guilty of something, just not murder. As for whatever Lewis said on TV to Rice, I didn't hear it, so I'll leave that to others.
*Obstruction of Justice. Not saying he's innocent of wrongdoing by any means, but I do not believe he is guilty of murder, especially not premeditated. Innocent until proven guilty my friend, and I know I won't change your mind and you won't change mine, just putting the charges that he was convicted of out there.
Seriously though, I think TMZ is satellite company of the NSA/CIA. Those dudes always got video on everything big that happens in the news. We could've gotten Bin Laden 10 years ago if TMZ was on the case.
They understand the law and that people respond to cash payments that are not traceable in exchange for lucrative information.
Any news on what TMZ actually realeased? I need to know how muh I need to hate the Ravens/NFL
I remember hearing a quote from Chris Mortenson back when this whole suspension for 2 games first happened, something to the effect that if the tape was released the punishment would be much worse.
So I have to think plenty of people knew the full circumstance here (the police especially). But there is no way the NFL with its complement of former FBI investigators, would have any trouble getting this information if it wanted it.
So that leaves 2 scenarios: A) The NFL saw the footage and didn't want to put it out there against a "top end" player for one of their franchises
or B) They suspected what the tape showed, and just didn't care and gave Rice a slap on the wrist.
Either option is deplorable.
I am seriously missing something.
Time passes. Ray Rice and his fiancee reconcile and are married.
What exactly is in the released video that indicates Rice required further punishment? (I watched -- seems to show what testimony indicated it would show).
Exit question: If there is nothing more in the video than what he was already punished for, who here thinks Ray's lawyers are going to have a field day with the NFL?
When an NFL player signs a contract, that player acknowledges that he is a representative of a business (NFL). As a representative of a business, it is that player's responsibility to represent the business in a way that his employer (the NFL) sees fit. Given that a large part of the NFL's business is maintaining their image, they have to discipline employees who damage their image.
NFL is just saving face/backtracking. What else can the NFL do?
So
