This year Virginia Tech has scored every time we've made it into the redzone. If I recall correctly (please correct me if wrong):
- 3 TDs and 2 FGs from 5 redzone attempts against W&M
- 4 TDs from 4 redzone attempts against OSU
I've never seen us so efficient in the redzone.

You are correct. You are also not alone in being very, very happy with that. The offense took care of the ball, young RBs punched it in when called upon, and Brewer took shots and made big-time throws when he needed to. Red zone production = wins.
More importantly we passed to more than just a well covered Wide Receiver. What an awesome catch by Sam Rogers
And everyone saw what happened when that defender tried to deny his pussy touchdowns.
It was pretty awesome. Before the game, I bet my buddy that Sam was going to score a touchdown during the OSU game. He brushed it off as me just being a babbling homer (I am, but that's besides the point). He about fell off his barstool when it happened.
Sam Rogers' extra time on the JUGS machine that no one told him to do is paying off.
Sam Rogers on the JUGS machine wasn't for him to practice catching. It was so the JUGS machine could practice throwing.
This is one of the best one's I've ever heard.
I could get used to this effective offense to go along with our awesome defense stuff. I have to keep pinching myself.
Yea, the Red Zone efficiency has been amazing. I can't remember when we were last able to routinely convert 3rd downs, even long ones. I/m still not sure I'm dreaming.
It's pretty unbelievable after the red zone production the past 2 years. I'm still a little concerned about the OL getting a good push and opening up holes inside the 5.
I agree. Even during the Tyrod era, our red zone effectiveness was less-than-stellar. This is fantastic change of pace. Stick it in! Stick it in! Stick it in!
My favorite stat:
2 penalties in the 2nd half.
The 15 yarder to open the half
Bucky's TD dance
Statistic of note: No false starts or offensive line penalties in the 2nd half when the pressure was on.
Hats off to the O-Line.
....and the other Excessive Celebration penalty too?
The one after Riley's TD? Wasn't that picked up?
No it was enforced on the kickoff.
er... I wish the penalty stat was true but I can recall many penalties.
Illegal hands to the face on Cory Marshall (which they called Dadi Nicholas' # but it definitely wasn't on him and was even questionable to be called on Marshall)
Block below the waist on Stanford (which was one of the worst calls I've ever seen and completely non-existent)
Celebration on Bucky for the TD dance
Celebration on Riley and co after the pick 6.
Those are just the ones that come to mind, but that's at least 4 penalties for 60 yards, which is a ton of penalty yardage.
Edit: We also had 1 holding penalty in the 2nd half (on Rogers I believe). That makes 5 penalties for 70 yards.
Yea, good call. The ESPN play by play was only showing 6 out of 10 penalties. But one thing did hold true - no false starts in the second half by our line.
ooh ooh is it points?! That has been my favorite offensive stat so far this year. We have put up more points than all of the other teams we have played COMBINED!
How about 3rd down efficiency this year?
This
that
wow
Dunno, we're gonna have to wait a while to know, seeing that our last game of the season is a game against a really good third down defense
