So read this this morning on 11 warriors about their recruits. Had a small blurb about Josh Sweat.
DON'T SWEAT IT
Lots of people asking about it, so here it is, from a source close to Ohio State's side of the Josh Sweat recruitment.
"Things went great for Josh on his visit," the source shared with 11W. "But I still don't believe that we're real with (Sweat)."
Getting an official visit from the nation's top-ranked overall player was a huge step for the Buckeyes, but being his first visit means there's a long way left to go, but the Buckeyes are not feeling optimistic that they'll be able to land him at this point.

Nice find.
I hope he's a Hokie.
Bud could do wonderful things with such a player.....
Getting an official visit while you get your ass whopped by the Hokies is not good for recruiticorning!
Especially when that team is recruiting you just as hard.
"recruiticorning" Sounds like something from the dictionary of one Early Cuyler.
God Help me: I grew up 30 miles from West, By-God. My best friends growing up were hillbillies & rednecks. Some of my favorite music is Bluegrass, and especially Old Time. In movies like Cold Mountain and O Brother, the music was at least half of my love of the movie. The movie Songcatcher warmed many a cold night when I was stuck in Butte Montana for two and a half years.
I despise the fact that they are one of the very few groups of people that it is still ok to make fun of. I react with righteous indignation every time some idiot politician, pundit or comedian implies or outright states that group of being retrograde trash with no redeeming values. This isn't because they do so, but they do so while hypocritically putting all their own constituent minority groups off limits. I'm equal-opportunity to the bone.
But I love me some Squidbillies.
Coming from a southern family from central VA you would think Squidbillies would be offensive. For me and it seems you as well it has the opposite effect.
Amen brother

I admit I have seen "song catcher." And I liked it. But I must add the caveat that I watched it with my wife.
Recruiticorning: Gooder than Hell.
Can't hurt!
I keep telling myself this year is different.
Unlike previous years where I told myself the same thing:
This year I'm not just telling myself will be different. This year truly feels different.
We are going to pull in some monster recruits!
So your telling me there's a chance?
And healthy Wangs always get a leg! What ever happened to his older brother? I remember he got drafted but was injured and bounced around for a year or two.
On my way out of town after the Duke game last year I ran into him at the Hess station and he said that he was cut due to an injury (so I assume he got a settlement) and at that time wasn't on another roster.
nice update, thanks.
Yup, yup, yup, yup, yup, yup, and leg
Sam Rogers doesn't have to dodge a wrench, the wrench dodges Sam Rogers
There are 5 D's in dodgeball. There are zero in Sam Rogers.
Crap! I'm usually good on spell checking his name - nice catch and comeback. leg for you sir!
6 now with Dork magic
I was gonna say Sam Rogers is our version of chuck Norris, but I believe chuck Norris actually aspires to be like Sam Rogers.
I wanna see Sam burst some holes for juice and shai
A healthy Wang is important in our life. God knows I know.
Ancient Chinese secret:
Ginseng tea and a touch of tiger balm. You'll be right as rain.
(Qualifier - married to an acupuncturist)
Or ask Hokie Boner '09.
And for the little lady, might I suggest a sweet porn stache and some illegal cologne...

I take mountain ginseng(married to Korean lady) but I am afraid to ask about what to do with tiger balm. :-) Full disclosure, I could not pass up telling that joke.
Just a little dab'll do ya. In fact, it'll get after ya, pretty hard...
it'll get after ya pretty hard? or it'll get ya pretty hard, after?
*logs off*
*deletes account*
I was also wondering how to use the tiger balm.
You forgot to mention we have a 17 foot tall Tight End....AND he can DANCE!
I immediately thought of this
Stephen Merchant?
Peter Crouch
HokieNation wants Josh Sweat. Bud Foster wants to unleash Sweat to terrorize offenses in 2015. Josh Sweat could be a real weapon in the battle of Bristol. I hope Josh realizes that.
I think things played out perfectly for us. Dadi was dominant that game. If he wasn't actively sacking or tackling for loss, he was flashing in front of the QB to make him pull it down and scramble. He was the Def. player of the week for that. This is HUGE since one of the counter recruiting tactics used against us with Sweat is how few DE's we put in the league. Showcasing Dadi (or Dadi playing out of his mind) could not have happened at a better time.
I know everything in Hokieland is all sunshine and rainbows right now, but I have a really good feeling about Sweat given that the reports were that he was already leaning towards us, we win in Columbus while he was there on an official visit, our athletic DE went OFF that night, and now he gets to come to Blacksburg and see our facilities and the gametime aura of Lane.
Landing a recruit like Sweat would do wonders for our recruiting. Everyone always knocks on VT for not keeping 4* and 5* talent in-state. Sweat seems like the type of talent that would draw other high caliber prospects to Blacksburg just to play on the same team as him. Just think of what Bud could do with talent like Sweat and Tim Settle....its scary.
Especially landing linemen who are that highly ranked would be a nice turn of fortunes.
and we're playing a true freshman LB (Keihn) at DE due to lack of bodies. Hello early playing time.
Is Keihn playing? I haven't seen him out there. How is he doing?
Yes he is playing on special teams.
Dadi looked fast coming off the edge but has a tendency to overrun the QB because he doesn't yet have the size to turn back in on the Tackles. I think Sweat does, immediately. Imagine Bud letting all his dogs off the chain up front with his hawks just circling in the secondary.
In light of how he used and the way he played Saturday night, this post couldn't be more wrong about Dadi. From what I've seen so far of replaying the game, he played inside and outside, hand on the dirt & standing up, played outside contain & inside gap fit, put significant pressure on the OL & QB in long yardage situations, and made few, if any, significant mental errors.
His job was to wreak havoc and he did exactly that.
He is getting better for sure. He has even admitted to having added some lbs helping his game. Several times though he got far up field and made plays coming back to the QB. I think it was Wiles (maybe Foster) that said he would be unblockable if he played at 255 lbs, and I think they may be right.
Getting better? He was national Defensive player of the week.
Junkyard dog double eagle quadruple condor defense. I like it, I like it a lot.
Ohhhhhhhhhh really? Well now the dynamic of this weekend just changed immensely. If Ohio State doesn't think they're really in the running with him, why was he there? Makes it more intriguing that he was there for the weekend his supposed frontrunner was the road team. I hope I am putting all the pieces together correctly in my head, but reading this, and then reading the things our coaches said about how they're already hearing good feedback from recruits on the way to the plane on Saturday... Hmmmmmm... It does make you wonder, doesn't it?
Good answer. Good answer. I like the way you think. I'm gonna be watching you.

Sweat figured it was a free ticket to see the Hokies play.
I'm sure from the Ohio State point of view, they wanted him in for that game. Biggest crowd in Ohio Stadium history (and one of the biggest to see a college football game period). Under the lights. King James on the sideline. "We are gonna rock this Hokie team that we are competing against for his services" I don't think they really thought there was a chance they were going to lose the game.
But I always wondered if from Sweat's perspective he was thinking "Hmm, I want to check out VT more than once, lets get a free trip to Columbus to get my ass kissed for a weekend while I'm at it"
If I am Beamer and company, I'm telling him on his next visit 'We want you to be a part of that fun", and "Big crowd schmig crowd...we want you to destroy the Vols in the biggest game ever in a couple of years"
Maybe just wishful thinking, but nothing about that weekend can be used to hurt us in his recruiting process. Great defensive effort, great team win, awesome traveling fan support. Winning a big boy game against one of the biggest boys around.

Exactly. This was the 2005 Miami game in reverse. I was at that game, and the program, the fans, the level of recruiting was at fever pitch. One of the regulars on the boards even put together this huge banner for us to hold that had all of the pics of the recruits at the game laminated right on it for them to behold on The Walk. A monumental effort to push VT to the next level was going on at every level.
Then the game happened and everything just went away - recruits included. I am sure I am in the minority, but I don't care. I will always believe that one game can make a difference.
It sure seemed to in 2005, and I hope to hell it does in 2014, too. Like you said, though, there isn't ONE thing about this game that could hurt us. Just a total, grand slam of a weekend.
I hate recruiting because it's so volatile and you get your hopes up for guys like Sweat and then you get crushed. I won't believe it until I see it, but ESPN is predicting we'll get him. One problem I see is that he is visiting for the Georgia Tech game. Noon. There's such a huge difference between a night game and a nooner It would've been better for him to come to the Miami game. Also he has three visits after us including FSU. I think he can play here as freshman and have a huge role, the coaches really need to stress that.
IF the fans get into the game, there shouldn't be any difference whatsoever. The fans make the difference between those game times, but whether the sun or the moon are in the sky, Lane should be rocking all the same.
I'm going to disagree with you there. Yes a day game can be great, especially if we turn out in full for it, and I think we will. But I've been to night and day games in multiple sports. It's just such a different feel under the lights. I don't really know how to describe it.
I'm not saying there isn't a different feel. There's an ominous feeling for an opposing team walking into someone else's house at night. That feeling that something is behind the corner and you can't see it, but in the day, it's visible. But the fact of the matter is that the atmosphere is created by the fans. And the atmosphere is what the recruit is going to look at. We played Miami in '09 in the rain during the day and that was a hell of a game. The fans just have to amp themselves up for these games and after a win like this past weekend, our fans better be amped to support our team. Also, if I had to guess, looking at how a schedule might work for a recruit's OV, an earlier game would give them more time to interact with the players, see everything they want to see, and interact with the coaches. While recruiting is part of their job, before the game the coaches' focus will be mostly on the game and if the game ends at 11, they don't have much time to be a recruiter afterward. So instead, they can put more time in as a recruiter after the game with an earlier kickoff. It's just a tradeoff.
It's just such a different feel under the lights. I don't really know how to describe it.
Maybe it's night and day?
Considering he's a high school player who plays his games on Friday nights, I'm not sure its in his best interests to attend any Thursday night games, and especially not to have an official visit. Sucks that we aren't going to get him (or likely anyone) in here on that Thursday night game because they'll all be busy getting ready for their (likely very important) games on Friday.
The last thing I want is a recruit coming away from a visit slightly regretting it because we screwed up his prep for an upcoming game for his current team.
I was wondering... does the NCAA even allow official visits mid-week? Because of the fact the recruits would most likely have to miss school?
Whether they do or don't allow it, to build on your point, it'd be hard for us to really put on a complete show for a recruit on a Thursday night game. The game is obviously better and more exciting, but as far as tours and what not, a full weekend is probably better. No high school classes or high school team practices for the guys to worry about. If a guy can get to a Thursday night game for an unofficial that's great, but it seems to me a weekend would be better for the official just because of the time factor.
I totally forgot school and that he has his own team now. Didn't even think about that.
OM Blood, my high school allowed excused absences if you were going on a college visit. I don't know how NCAA handles it.
Why in the cornbread hell would you listen to espn regarding recruiting? They know about as much about college football recruiting as Warren Buffet knows about standing in line at a soup kitchen.
Because it's the #1 recruit which is all they care about. And I'm lazy.
This quote was classic,
"There is absolutely no way Sweat will come here now. Why would he? He just saw a defensive coach completely manhandle us for God's sake. If I were a defensive stud, I would go play for that man. Why waste your life here, when you can become a legend there. FUCK!"
Key word is "legend" there. Sweat would be a star anywhere, but would be a legend at VT.
Georgia......Georrrrrrrgiaaaaahhhh....
Agreed, I think UGA and FSU will end up being our biggest competition for him. I also wouldn't be surprised if Bama got themselves in the mix out of nowhere (yes, I'm talking to you, Mr. Bagman) and pulled the rug out from everyone, because, well, that's what Bama does.
According to recruiting news I saw, he is in Blacksburg on the 19th/20th.
Amazing he was in Ohio State when we played them on an official visit.. We have Bud and afterall #DBU!
EDIT: I am an idiot. Disregard.
While I don't actually know my source very well having just met him last Sat evening inside the horseshoe, this source contends we have nothing to worry about with Sweat according to reports from those very close with him. The words "done deal" were used at half time.
Stop getting my hopes up, I am still trying to wrap my brain around us beating an OOC, top-ten team on the road. In a word...Inconceivable!
K.
Saw this when browsing a marathon session of videos before, during, and after that epic win
Wonder what they'll remember most? Couple of drunk fans hyping up "the best coach ever, Urban Meyer" or the beating our defense gave Ohio State throughout the course of that game?
It's one thing when students or recent graduates are talking and chanting your name and telling you how awesome it would be to see you play there, but I gotta imagine its a bit creepy with grown men are doing this.
that fan suing a seat cushion to demonstrate his pride was all these two should need to see about how soft that atmosphere was on Saturday.
So this is the before video, where's the after? I want to know what those fans used as their recruiting pitch after the game.
"It still hasn't snowed yet."
Thats the best OSU fan's can do?
A seat cushion?
Weak...
Oh, Josh Sweat is visiting OSU?

"This one isn't between anyone. He is a Virginia Tech lock. I sat with him and his ( ? Uncle Smoke) at the game. They were ooh and awing all of Tech's success . To the point it became a disturbance. Now on the other hand Burrells entire family were very pro OSU. J Sweat was a nice kid but his ??? Uncle Smoke was a lets say pro V Tech character."
Just read this from an OSU fan on a forum. Could be true/could maybe not. Idk why he'd make it up. But I want it to be true
So petebuddywilson has been in touch with Uncle Smoke, aye?
Plot twist: petebuddywilson IS Uncle Smoke.

I heard he was making it rain Skittles and other candies for all of the recruiticorns.
I saw a tweet from someone who said Josh Sweat's trainer told him he is coming to Tech. I don't know how much emphasis I would put on it but it seems like a random thing to make up.
I heard from a source that Josh Sweat's masseuse guarantees he is coming to Tech.
I think you may be on to something. I ran into the guy that started playing marbles with Josh back in the 3rd grade, and he says everyone at the BaWMC in Tinsley Green this year were bellyaching that such a prodigy was choosing to play a neanderthal game for Bud Foster.
I just farted and it sounded like someone whispered "Swwwweaaat."
Sweat to VT confirmed.
I went for a run yesterday and started sweating. No way both these events are coincidence.
I googled "Josh Sweat Virginia Tech" and there were "about 190,000 results." That's "about 190,000" sources that have to say he's coming here.
HS players have masseuses?
I heard from my buddy's sister's hairdresser's mom's dog's groomer that he hasn't decided yet. A pretty reliable source.
Can you give me your hairdresser's phone number? Impressive work...you look GREAT!
You guys do realize this sounds a lot like FSU fan's scoops. We must be a lock.
For those of you who have played GTA...the mention of Uncle Smoke had me thinking of this.
"All you had to do is follow the damn train CJ!"
Here he is....better keep the Bama Bagmen away from this guy...
YOU GET THESE SPIRITED FANS AT THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY! (sidebar, she seems like she tailgated quite a bit before kickoff)
She wants the D...in Defense.
As we've proved time and time again a good D usually provides the best O.
Good one vtfly! Still chuckling.
I am hoping to see Mr. Sweat in action this week.
