Upset Saturday. We need to be ready.

inside cbs football had their upsets of the week just now:

a.a.ron and randy picked ecu over vt. both said ecu is good and emotionally we won't be ready.

ecu is a solid team. I hope our guys are ready and hear and see these programs to give them motivation. we need to beat the crap out of them.

knowing what happened the last two years, the coaching staff will get the hokies ready . its now all about the next game.

Allen Ox

I live in nc and ecu fans are horrible to listen to, so personally I also want us to dominate. I hope all the talk the seniors and leaders have done abt moving on to the next game is the truth. if this really is a different team we will come out and punch them in the throat and have a solid win.

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

Wasn't it the ECU game last year when James Gayle dislocated his shoulder, popped it back in on the sideline, then returned to sack Carden in the end zone for a safety? Our guys should watch that film over and over. My gosh it was glorious.

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

Indeed. However, it was also the game where Cody Journell's wheels fell off and he missed like 25 extra points/FGs within 25 yards.

"You know when the Hokies say 'We are Virginia Tech' they're going to mean it."- Lee Corso

Yeah, if Journell doesn't fall apart, that's a 22-10 win where we shut down their offense and our offense was pretty morbid.

I doubt we shut down their offense like that again, it was a glorious performance and many of last years seniors had faced ECU's offenses in 2010 and 2011 as well. But our offense is in a much better place. Hopefully we can run the ball and control the clock.

I'm thinking we get in the 30's and hold them around 20.

...because he was high on X.

If you have evidence of that, the forum for that information is the team leadership or other authority.
Until it's proven in court, it's hearsay and doesn't belong here.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

What exactly would those proper authorities do with this year-old information? Especially given that using recreational drugs is not illegal, possession is. Many, many things on this site haven't, couldn't be, and don't need to be proven in court. If you missed the joke here, I'd warn against visiting any threads relating to Sam Rogers or Bucky Hodges. You may have a stroke looking at all those glorious facts that haven't been confirmed by a judge or jury.

I believe "Constructive possession" is using without possessing, per se

I did not miss the joke except that in this case, it could be called slander and doesn't belong on a class blog. We don't want the lawsuit.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

It could be called slander, assuming the person calling it that had no idea what they were talking about. It cannot be slander if the person who says it reasonably believes it to be true, or makes the statement in jest. Also, athletes are generally held to the standard of having to prove actual malice, which would be just about impossible in this instance, given a.) his history of drug use, and 2.) the stories that circulated when he was kicked off the team. Basically, you can keep making faulty legal-ish arguments all day, which you will lose, or you can simply keep scrolling past jokes you don't find funny.

...because he was high on X.

If it's a joke, what's the punchline?

That IS the punchline.

No, it's an allegation based on zero credible evidence. Stuff like this does not belong here.

"Exit light..."

Just stop and move on. The rest of us have. I'm not sure what your end game is, but it's not necessary.

Oh joy! It's another one of THOSE threads...

To play Devil's Advocate a little...

If going after Marcus Vick with the veracity we do on here is free game, then we can't really get too bent out of shape when someone goes after another one of our former player's demeanor when he was dismissed from the team for repeated violations of team conduct as well, one of which included pulling a gun on one of our basketball players. With his repeated screw-ups and embarrassing acts he pulled as a public representative of Virginia Tech, doing as much as he could to drag our good name through the mud after the years and years of our coaching staff and administration going out of their way to keep things clean, I don't mind at all if he becomes the butt of all jokes going forward. In a way, he worked very hard at earning that right.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

It's one thing to throw out a factual statement that is common knowledge. Ray Rice punched his girlfriend, Marcus Vick stomped on a guy's leg, Journell and his buddies pulled an airsoft gun on Zo, etc. It's another to throw out an allegation that is nothing more than, as stated before, hearsay and slander. Deserved or not, we don't need to drag people further through the mud than they've already done themselves.

1. Yes, it is hearsay, no it is definitively NOT slander, as explained above. If you're going to use legal terms, use them correctly.
2. I'm not dragging the guy through the mud. I'm not saying he was an awful person, or trying to incite any hate for the guy. Merely pointing out that a guy who was usually a pretty solid kicker, also just happened to fail a drug test shortly after having the most unbelievably abysmal performance of his career. Inferences can be made, and jokes can be made from those inferences. Y'all are taking this far too seriously. I said he popped molly, not that he's responsible for the JFK assassination. Give the self-righteousness a rest, and let's move on.

To quote J. Jonah Jameson, "Slander is spoken. In print, it's libel."

How about this? If Cody Journell hadnt exercised such incredibly bad judgement to throw the second chance Frank gave him back in his face, after he possibly cost us a Sugar Bowl, our victory over ECU would have been much more comfortable.

People rarely lose the ability to do what their good at for no reason, and he was at that point already established as a person prone to making really really shitty decisions.

Hope the team uses this as motivation and it makes them angry that people are still doubting them and they come out and play like it because as we saw on Saturday, an angry and motivated VT team is tough to beat.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

This game scares me every year....I hate playing them (In a respectful way)

"Worst part of the game 'experience' for me was that for an entire quarter and the beginning part of halftime the VT fans were dominating the Shoe. Kudos to them. Made me sick." - Ohio State Fan

It's generally one of those lose-lose situations where you gain close to nothing for beating them and the other possibility... well...
-High-risk, low-(/no-)reward game.
-Team with relatively vile fans

Why can't we stop playing them?

^^^THIS^^^ .... That's why I was so pissed when we signed a 45 year deal playing them.... Its without a doubt a lose-lose situation.

VT 12'... Exit light, Enter night.

In all fairness, ECU is a respectable mid-major team. It's better than playing a MAC or Sun Belt team or even some of the lesser teams in the AAC like Temple, Tulsa, or Memphis. I'd rather play ECU than play the Austin Peay's of the football world.

I understand that, and I agree with that. I just dont understand why we have to play them for the next 10 years when it gives very little benefits for the Team/School/State of VA.

VT 12'... Exit light, Enter night.

Lucky for you that we play them annually until the year 2148.

...when Drew Harris will run for 200 yards against them

Hahahaha. Nice.

Leonard. Duh.

By then Bucky Hodges' great great grandson will have grown to 11'9" at the age of 17 and will have bionic legs. I'm not worried about the future.

This game scares me. Georgia Tech is scaring me. And Pittsburgh is scaring me. I just have a horrible feeling about all three of those. Hopefully we come out and continue to treat every team like Ohio State. We are capable of winning out and getting to the ACC championship and we are capable of beating whatever team is there. This team is capable of anything.

The worst part about being undefeated is just that: every game is scary.

To be honest, the only games I'm worried about are ECU and Pitts. Over the past few years we've handled the triple option really well, and their defense is porous.

Pitts though...AT Pitts, no less. I'm sweating.

I'm also curious to see how loluva fares against Louisville this weekend. ... see if that defense is legit.

That 250lb running back they have looks like the real deal. That dude was just embarrassing people last Friday. I hope Marshawn is in his groove by then so we can match bruiser for bruiser.

Don't sleep on UNC
They may not have started off well, but they have a lot of talent.

Here's a mini-breakdown of what VT needs to do this year vs. what VT did last year:

  • Make fucking field goals. One of the biggest reasons the game was so close last year is because Journell whiffed on a total of 7 points (two field goals and an extra point) throughout the game. There's nothing more detrimental to a team's psyche than knowing that they cannot rely on their kicker. Slye has thus far been money (aside from the one miss v. anOSU, which led to Brewer burying his face into the jacket of the trainer all puppydog-like), so I don't expect a significant drop-off from him. Plus, kicker is, like, one of our deepest positions this year for some reason, so Frank's got plenty of options.
  • Catch the fucking football. After the ECU game last year, Moorehead "challenged" the receivers to improve their catching ability by firing footballs like SCUD missiles directly at their jugular. According to Newton's Third Law of Motion, for every 100 mph football-rocket that is launched at someone's neck, there is an equal reaction of that person to throw their hands in the air to defend themselves, eventually leading to a catch (plus, JUGS can markedly improve hand-eye coordinationhey oh). Stat to keep in mind: LT3 was 5 for 26 25 of 43 on the day last year against a less-than-spectacular ECU defense running 3-4 because of a lack of the running game. ECU does have a pretty good defensive front, so if the running game can't get on track, Brewer will have to focus those dreamy blue eyes downfield...I can't envision him going too far south of his current 69% completion rate with those weapons he's got at tight end.

I'd go more in-depth, but I'm procrastinating on a research paper as is.

emotionally we won't be ready

Wow, I'm surprised they had the time to interview the team about their emotional state. I'm also surprised they found the time to get their psychiatric or psychological degrees to make such judgments.

๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ

Agreed...thats a bunch of crap...."Emotionally we won't be ready."
Seriously, these "Experts" have ZERO insight into to emotional state of our team.

I think we come out and kick the crap out of ECU this weekend...

ECU has played the ACC tough for years and has gotten most of us at least once, they should never be overlooked on the schedule for anyone!

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:

Bud Foster has kept us in every game we have played in the past few years even with a less then stellar offense helping him out. This year it appears we have an offensive identity to go along with our defense. As long as we go in and play like we have been the past couple of games I don't see us losing..........but honestly I am still nervous. so far this season has seemed like it has been to good to be true and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

6-5, 10-1-1, 2-9, 3-8, 6-4-1, 6-5, 5-6, 2-8-1, 9-3, 8-4, 10-2, 10-2, 7-5, 9-3, 11-1, 11-1, 8-4, 10-4, 8-5, 10-3, 11-2, 10-3, 11-3, 10-4, 10-3, 11-3, 11-3, 7-6, 8-5, 7-6, 7-6, 10-4, 9-4, 6-7, 8-5..........

ECU is a solid team. I remember they got a quick score at the beginning of the game last year and then 7 sacks happened. It wouldn't surprise me if they did this again since the ECU QB is quick to release the ball on slants/outs for short yardage, but Foster will adjust, he always does. Our O needs a balanced attack on the ground and air and yes, make some field goals this time but I'd prefer TD's.

VT is 3-0 against Ruffin McNeill's version of the air raid/spread.

ECU scored 25 points in the first time we saw that offense.
They've scored 24 points in the 8 quarters since.

As long as we take this game seriously, we got this.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

The engineer in me agrees with your stats but the Hokie in me is apprehensive.

He's no good to me dead.

Come on people....stop being so nervous. You are forgetting there is one VERY important difference on this team from last year: MICHAEL BREWER....

I have faith in him and I think this team is special because of this....We got this.

Brew Crew is alive and well?

Unfortunately, there's nothing that we as an online community can do to make the players ready. We just hope that the coaching staff puts together a good gameplan like they do every week and the players are motivated to execute it.

#ENFUENTE #BALLSOFSTEEL #Livefor32

Exactly. I know I will be ready. I think we should take this sage advice:

"Trust in yourself. Trust in the beer next to you. Trust in the play call and watch them execute it. The winning will take care of itself.

Get your mind right Hokies. It is GAMEDAY."

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

Can't find historical stats to back this up, but I've been told that we've never lost a home game when there's a joint performance between the HTs, MVs and the other team's band, which was accurate in all my time at Tech. Good news: ECU's band will be on the field with the MVs and HTs at halftime.

jmu and clemson...

He's no good to me dead.

Derped. I meant all 3 bands. HTs didn't play with JMU or Clemson.

FACT: We have NEVER lost a home game following a win over Ohio State.

VHokie

I eat my words...there is a first time for EVERYTHING!

VHokie

I know this is a pretty common complaint, but I hate how inconsistent the media can be. Haven't they always said that if we hadn't lost to Boise then we wouldn't have lost to JMU because we would be coming off of a big win and the team would be focused on keeping their undefeated season alive? I understand we're a young team but still, I like the mental makeup of this group a lot and I think they'll be perfectly fine.

I'll tell you what will make this game a much easier win for the team. If our crowd shows up. Its a noon game and sometimes we aren't at our best. But if the crowd comes in loud as can be it will pump our team up and will make it a lot tougher for them.

โ€œThese people are losing their minds. This is beautiful.โ€

Put your Sam Rogers face on

@VTimHokie85

I tried, but it keeps punching my face with its eye-fists.

ECU hasn't faced a defense yet this year. SCar is barely breathing on D this year and ECU only put up 23. I am not ready to give their offense much credit yet.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.
