In his post-practice interview last night, Bud said that Dadi has the most "twitch" of anyone since Corey Moore. He said that Dadi still has to master more of the game to get to Corey's level but he certainly has the raw talent.
and the follow-up with Corey ....

If, by 'twitch', he means explosive first step, that might be possible. I do think that was what Bud meant, and not for everyone to start saying in generalities - 'Bud said Dadi is just like Corey Moore!' The bane of sports commentary is the bumper sticker slogans, 15 second sound bytes that provide zero context.
The thing about Moore, though, was his overall explosiveness all the way to the ball carrier. Dadi looks really good. Corey Moore was unbelievably great. Dadi will have time to prove himself, just like Corey Moore did. I'll wait to decide.
Actually I remember Bud saying Moore (and Tapp I think) had "twitch" and at that time I seem to remember him saying it was more attune to instinct. Raw, unbridled instinct to cause havoc. I recall one interview with Bud where he mentioned Moore's "twitch" gave him an advantage because he was meaner, faster and wanted it more than the other guy.
If Bud said it, it must be true. Bud Foster is a defensive GURU.
Hopefully that motivates Dadi to dominate even more.
And hopefully it doesn't motivate Corey Moore to attack Bud Foster. That would be like when Neo fought Agent Smith. Just total chaos and the real loser is the world as it gets destroyed in the process.
As long as the world is virtual I have no problem with that.
I can see it. Not the biggest DE in the game, but overall speed and athleticism gives him the edge.
Honestly, I think Dadi is better lined up tight than Moore. Moore was used perfectly by Bud, because his first step was one of a kind. He stuck a backer into a run responsibility inside of Moore, which freed Moore to get wide, angle in, and ignore any kind of dive play.
That is the genius of Bud Foster. He takes players who may not be all-around great, but can do one thing really really really well, and then he finds a role for them that makes them look like great players.
Well Bud agrees with you on that point as well. During the discussion he also mention that Dadi was very effective going inside.
This is a trait of a great leader - not only for football and for our team, but for any company or organization in the world.
I dunno, in every picture/video I have seen CM looks like there is a certain amount of rage just beneath the surface that just needs a reason to step out for a minute. Dadi appears to have a switch for the field.
Dadi was a special case this year because we saw how effective he was in short spurts the last two years....but we had no idea how he would fare over a full game with starters snaps. Not only is he handling it, he's picking up speed in the fourth and doing things like bull rushing an OG that we never would have expected.
If you interpolated Dadi's numbers from part-time work last year to full-time work this year with no dropoff, he's the ACC DPOY and pushing of AA. What we're seeing right now is that you can in fact interpolate those stats straight out because he's getting more snaps and is better than last year.
He's on pace for 21 sacks, which may be more than he gets but 15+ seems reasonable. His TFL and Hurry numbers are going to be huge as well.
Corey Morre was my favorite player when I was at Tech, this is hi praise indeed from Foster!
I have to say I'm surprised how quickly this somewhat inexperienced Front 7 has clicked, and in a big way. My biggest concern for the Ohio State game with the defense, was those big Midwestern OLinemen (even though they were also newbies) being able throw their weight around, against this lighter (but faster) defensive front. Speed truly does kill, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it!
We haven't faced to OLines that scare me yet: Pitt, Miami, BC. I'm concerned that we are just going be susceptible to big OL's pushing down hill between the tackles to minimize our speed advantage and use their size advantage.
I like our DL against ECU, GT and UNC because we are going to be so difficult to block in space.
The OSU game was a bit of an anomaly because we came up with such a new scheme that they didn't know what to do...then they unraveled in the fourth. But, our quickness beat their size, which is what we'll need to do against Pitt, Miami and BC.
I don't think it's that they didn't know what to do, it's that they couldn't execute what they needed to do well enough (burn VTs CBs) to get VT to change its defensive gameplan .. and then when OSU was forced to completely abandon the designed running game Barrett was toast
I feel like Foster said something similar about Chris Ellis when he was sophomore.
Whenever I hear someone compare one of our DEs to Corey Moore, I have a similar reaction to whenever someone compares a pro basketball player to Michael Jordan.
While I loved me to corey moore in no way is it fair to compare him to one of the top 10 NBA players of all time
Agreed.
However, I'm using that analogy to compare it to when current VT players are compared to Moore. It's really the highest compliment you could pay them - yet it's extremely unrealistic for most to ever live up to.
Fair enough
"One of the top 10 NBA Players"? How about the best NBA player of all time and also the most dominant player in any sport ever.
Magic, Karen, Elgin, Bird, the Logo, Wilt, Hakeen, Malone off the top of my head, so yeah top 10 sounds about right...
Karl Malone above Michael? Elgin Baylor above Michael? Yes I know all about Elgin Baylor's game in the 60's. Jerry West better than Michael? As great as they were, that's laughable.
Give me your top five.
Moses Malone not Karl, though the mailman is probably top 15
These debates are always hard to win because it's almost impossible to compare great players from different eras.
I usually defend my MJ choice with this... If you asked various basketball gurus to list their top 3, Michael is on every list. There isn't a second player you could guarantee (even Russell and Kareem).
I would say it is a toss up between Jordan and Russell. Even Bird and Magic have admitted that Jordan was the best they had ever seen, including themselves.
I don't think Russell can hear Jordan over all of his championship rings.
Oh, so you're one of those guys...more championships = better player. Yep, you've got it nailed. Robert Horry is a much better player than Michael Jordan.
Yes I did make a blanket statement that Robert Horry was king champ (still has fewer rings than Russell though.....Yeah BOY!) No Russell showed up and they won (lots of championships). He left and they didn't. Jordan left and the Bulls still made it to the conference finals. Its just my opinion. No need to get upset.
well, the Celtics won 2 championships in 7 years after Russell retired, it's been 15? years since Jordan retired and the Bulls have exactly ZERO championships since... not saying that is an argument that Jordan is better, but if championships before and after is the metric, then the Celtics did pretty well without Russell, the Bulls not so much without Jordan
Larry Bird wants to talk to you...
Trust me I wasn't upset. More of a joke. I can't stand Kobe Bryant and know he is no where near as good as Michael. But when I hear the rings argument I get annoyed. Here's the thing about Michael. He retired for 2 years to play baseball in between 3peats. I don't think there is any question he has 8 rings if not for that. But I just don't like the rings argument in general. You're comparing 2 different teams and 2 different eras.
I didn't realize either one of them EVER won a championship by themselves... let's not credit a teams success to one player and ignore the contributions of everyone else
Yeah, because he NEVER got to play with any other elite players like Jordan did. Oh, that's right...
Laughable. Just like the crowd that thinks Jim Brown can never be surpassed, because their daddy said he was the best, even though neither ever actually watched him play.
I'll just drop this here. Mostly because the convo made me remember it, not because I have a dog in the fight...

Comic from xkcd (#1392)
Dadi is what they wanted Cols Colas to be.
I didn't know Colas was working for The U these days. Seems so wrong!
Sure is
This is more relevant to Moore, but when I interviewed Bud he got extremely fired up at how Corey was (mis)used in the NFL. He really believe Corey could've been a DE at the next level, and said something to the effect that if Corey was supposed to play linebacker, he would've played him at linebacker. It was awesome.
Dadi's home? Terrordome.
I can see the connection.
I've been thinking the same about Dadi since last year's breakout game vs Pitt. See that Bud said so, makes me feel like I might actually understand some of this.
Sorry but he can't hold a candle to Moore. He is great but you need to understand that Moore was 5'11 210lb and made most O-lines his bitch. In 99 he almost by himself destroyed Clemson and that year took home most of the defensive hardware in existence. Maybe next year if Dadi works on his explosiveness he might get into Moore's league.
He has been and always will be my favorite Hokie.
^^This. Moore is also my favorite Hokie, and always will be. The 99 season was my senior year, so I have fond memories.
I'm pretty sure Bud's point is that he does have Corey's explosiveness (or "twitch" as Bud called) but it is the rest of his game that is still maturing. Having not seen either one in practice on a daily basis, I'm gonna stick with Bud's opinion on this one.
I agree that Dadi isn't as good as more at thie point (Moore is my all time favorite VT player too, btw). Bud didn't say Dadi is as good as Moore right now. That doesn't mean that Dadi doesn't have some skills that remind people, in particular Bud, of Moore.
I've gotta agree with everything said here. Also in agreement with the mention earlier in the thread of Moore and the appearance of the seething, boiling-point, underlying rage that he played with. It was truly a sight to behold to watch him get after it play-by-play.
Corey Moore: "yeah, Dadi is waaay better than me, pfft, sike."

No one ever gave a better interview than Corey..... He was in Beast on the field and at all times during the interview!
One must tread lightly when comparing someone to Corey Moore...he was a once in a generation talent as a college football DE. i still get sad thinking about all of the events that railroaded any chance he had at success in the NFL. To this day, i've NEVER seen anyone (not at 'bama, not at Florida, not at LSU) who can do the things Corey did on the field. that doesn't mean he's the greatest DE ever, but he was a unique talent that gave OC's nightmares...
man, if there's even a chance we have another Corey Moore coming up through the program...wow! just...wow!
just sayin
That picture is fucking hilarious!
