Can't say I'm surprised.

Classic trap game! Coming off a big win followed by a noon kickoff. Let's all be honest with ourselves, who was thinking playoffs before the tOSU game? What we have here is a great learning expeirence for this young talent we have to respect success. The season is far from over and we can still win the Coastal and challenge FSU/Clemson/U of L for the title.

We slept walk through the first half and kept them in it in the 2nd. You can't do that with a team as good as ECU. We'll be fine and if I was y'all I'd start buying tickets to Charlotte. GO HOKIES!!!

Well I honestly think ECU will be a top 15 team by the end of the season for sure so the loss wasn't too bad. I had a feeling there was going to be some lag but my only question was the defensive plan for this game? Lets just repeat what we did in the previous week and hope our DB's can cover multiple great receivers all game.

See you forget that ECU still will be ECU, and they'll lose to a Western Carolina somewhere along the way. No way they end up top 15, but they are very talented and it's not a terrible loss for us.

They already played their Western Carolina-caliber team in week 1.

They get UNC and then they run their conference gauntlet. So I'm guessing you say they'll lose to SMU or USF?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I am absolutely saying that.

Thank you!

its not a trap game its the coaches not getting us ready for the game. Once bama barely beat west virginia was their next game a trap game no because they came out and fucking demolished the team

Trap game is an excuse- you might as well say ohh here take the W we are going to embarrass ourselves anyways

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

Well, bama didn't "shock the world" beating WVU and they beat them in ATL. Like I said in another post, championship teams win big games then win trap games the following week. We're not a championship team...yet!

"War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.”~~Judge Holden

Bama's next game after WVU wasn't a trap game because
1) they didn't upset a favored WVU in their own house, and
2) FAU is very, very, very bad.

Coaches can do all they can, but from what I can gather, this one goes on the players for not showing up for a good little while.

Can Alabama even have a big win anymore? They're at the top of the heap, and their history is winning.

In many ways, Alabama beating WVU would be like us being ECU.

Agree on the second point, but not quite on the first. Bammer going into another elite program's house and beating them down is still a big win. Like if they played in South Bend and beat the Irish 35-7, that would be a big win for them. They still have big games, it's just that most are in conference. The SEC teams don't believe in scheduling anyone tough OOC, by & large.

Florida and USCe play their in state rivals each year. UGA and Auburn have played home and homes's with Clemson recently. Tennessee has been more than willing to play good teams on the road lately (Oregon and Oklahoma). Everyone else... not so much. Not sure when the last time bama played a good non-SEC team in a true road game.

Fun fact, pretty sure Nick Saban has never won a non-BCS championship BCS bowl game.

Sugar Bowl after 2001 season. He was still at LSU then.

Florida & SoCarolina don't gave any choice in playing F$U & Clemson, so that is a moot point. The SEC teams have 56 OOC games annually. So in the last 5-6 years Georgia & Auburn have each played two OOC games against a Top 25 opponent. Tennessee has played four. That's out of 250-300 OOC games the SEC has, they've played maybe 12-15 Top 25 opponents. Out of 250-300. Which was one of the secondary points I already made above - the SEC doesn't really schedule quality OOC games.

my only problem is that south Carolina won, ... meaning the sec Homers are going to continually push how much better the $EC is

They are better.

True. But we don't need to give them easy reasons to rub it in.

The fuck they are. We're 13-9 against them.

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

The SEC?

Good post.
I'm really not upset.
We're 2-1 after 3 games.
The conference is wide open and we have the potential to win it.
I had absolutely NO expectation that we would be undefeated.
ECU is a good team and will be bowling this year.
We played like stink, and the coaches will have A LOT to coach about this week.
And we STILL beat tOSU in the 'shoe.
Go Hokies!

Lets be honest, most fans thought were were going to be 2-1 at this point in the season. The world is not going to end tomorrow, its scheduled for Thursday.

The only problem I have with that sentiment is that in reality Hokie fans thought we would be 1-1. Saying "hey we thought we would end up 2-1" doesn't make it any easier to digest. That L in the column being from ECU and not Ohio State is different

Just seems like another missed opportunity

Generally agree with your comments. But, saying a team will be bowling isn't really saying all that much these days. Don't something like 60 teams get into bowl games?

Virginian by Birth, Hokie by Choice

39 bowls, and I'm not sure if the national championship is counted in that number. Let's say no, so 38 x 2 = 76.

True, but it is used as a metric by most to achieve 'decent team' status.
I do think that if ECU plays to their potential, they can have an impressive season.

I'm not surprised at all. I was worried all week that the team wouldn't be ready to play.

You can blame the coaches all you want, but the players have to be focused and aggressive. I'm sure the coaches did everything they could to tell the players that ECU will be ready for them, etc. etc.

You could tell that the players weren't up for the game. The OL looked SOFT, receivers were dropping passes, QB over throwing players and made some bad decisions, corners getting beat, poor tackling, kicking the ball out of bounds, etc.

The team did not compete and they weren't focused.

I'm actually very surprised by Stanford's drops. He was the guy who seemed to pull us out of the dropsies last year. The OL was trying to handle that monster DT and Brewer, who everyone claims doesn't have a big arm, was overthrowing lots of long balls, including the hail mary (which, to me, was the only truly infuriating play all game long).

Fully agreed, we need to polish up some rough edges.

I was too.
I'm sure Coach Morehead is oiling up the JUGS machine today.
I think either Brewer was feeling the pressure in his head or was told to get the ball out earlier, but those overthrows were frustrating.

I can't really think of any unit on offense or defense that didn't have some letdowns.
