Thank You North End Zone Students

I mentioned this in a comment that got lost in the gameday thread yesterday but I just wanted to give a shout out to the students that were in the North this week. They really stuck with the game even after going down 21-0. The large majority even stayed until the end of the game.

As a recently graduated student that had the misfortune of being stuck in the North 2/3 years, I can't tell you how frustrating it was for half of the students to leave at halftime to go downtown and drink. I was so surprised and pumped that the students stayed the whole game yesterday.

So thank you to those students that rode that game out and gave all they could.

That's good to hear but usually students stick it out to the end of the game. The hard part is getting them to stay during blowouts.

I was in South End Zone for the W&M game and during the 4th quarter I was shocked to see NEZ still packed. That was a 4pm kickoff so the 4th quarter was sometime around 6:30, I would have expected everyone in NEZ to be at the bars by halftime.

I second this! I'm a 2012 alum. Was at the game sitting in east. I was very proud to see north and the student section in general.

To all the students that read this. KEEP IT UP!!! That's how I like to see a Hokie football game. Minus the lose and the few paper airplanes of course.

I was very pound

Spelling. Damn. Fixed.

Oh yeah, whatever, us East Stands students are just chopped liver I suppose.

#hottaek: east stands > NEZ

Every second counts

Yeah, special shout out to East Stands Students. I also did that for a year. Y'all were loud and proud. The student sections are what make Lane, Lane!

East stands always show up for games! I was in the east on Saturday so I didn't want to compliment myself haha

I agree the North stands were rocking. This was my first game back in a few years and I was impressed with the energy, especially during a tough game.

You're welcome!

Nobody left on Saturday. Not even the upper east which always appears to be the first to leave.

We're not leaving!

We're pressing forward/down to get closer to the action! My spacesuit has only so much oxygen, after all.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Even though I'm only a sophomore I got lucky enough to get north end seats this season. The way I see it, if you get north tickets it's an honor and you kinda have to cheer your heart out. That's the way I see it.

I just want to give a shoutout to everyone that went to the game Saturday. That looked like a True White-Out on TV. Then again, a majority of the past few years have had Poncho-Out games instead of White-Outs, but seeing most everyone buy in and wear a white shirt made for a great look on TV. I'm looking forward to seeing the Orange Effect even more now because Lane looks awesome in orange.

I just wanted to give a shout out to the students that were in the North this week.

That "the North" reference got me thinking. Are you guys the protectors of the realms of men?

Go Hokies

I haven't seen the NEZ so pumped up in awhile. I can't wait to see how hyped we'll be for the Miami game at night.

I am the heartbeat of Blacksburg. A fortress built out of stone but made with champions.

On a somewhat related note, my ECU friend posted this on FB. He's not a big fan of Tech at all either. Nice job NEZ and all other sections.

Edit: The "nothing beats this view" was a picture of the final score over the NEZ as you might have guessed.

I graduated in 2002 and have been a season ticket holder ever since, so I've been to virtually every home game since 1998. Over the last 15 years, I've watched the NEZ get constructed, the videoboard get added, Enter Sandman become a tradition, the NEZ becoming an AWESOME student section ... and then a very clear dropoff in the student section the last few years. I was surprised the last 2 years at how empty the NEZ was in the second half, even for games that were close. It made me sad because "back in my day" people would've killed to get into Lane and stay for the whole game (literally, this was the reason student season tickets were even invented-- tickets were 1st come 1st serve on a game by game basis, so every week we had to take shifts standing in a line that would form days before tickets even became available). That said, I was very pleasantly surprised at how full the NEZ remained from start to finish for each of the first 2 games this season. For different reasons, both games presented situations where it would've cleared out in recent years, but that didn't happen this time. As someone who donates a few k a year and spends 8 hours in the car every weekend driving to Blacksburg, I am very appreciative that the student support seems to be back. And if the price of that support is music pumped through the speakers, I can deal with that ... not gonna lie, I actually kinda like it too.

Keep up the support! Looking forward to another full Lane this weekend. GO HOKIES!

On tv it didn't looked full. Was wondering about that.
