I know we're all fairly bummed about the way the game against ECU turned out. But as others have noted on here, this is a young team that will take some time to reach its full potential. I can't wait to be in Lane this weekend cheering with 66,000 other Hokies as we take on GT. Also pumped that my parents, girlfriend, and some Lynchburg friends who "have never been to a real college football game", in their words, get to join me.
I wanted to pass on a story from a coworker this morning who was at the game Saturday against ECU. He was able to bring a family friend in his 60s who had never attended a college football game. This man was a veteran and was excited to be in the gameday atmosphere we all know and love. In my coworker's words, "he had a blast and left grinning ear-to-ear. It didn't matter to him whether we won or lost. He had a great time regardless and loved the flag-themed logo on the field, along with the various events and traditions surrounding the day."
I know we all get caught up in the emotions of Hokie football. I also know it made me smile to hear how much our gameday experience meant to my coworker's friend.
Win or lose, we love our Hokies. Few people outside HokieNation can understand that.
Thanks to everyone who help make Lane Stadium the best in the nation, on and off the field.

This ^^^^ Yes, this. I also had some family friends from NC (yes, they are Pirates fans) attend the game and said they thoroughly enjoyed Blacksburg and Lane Stadium, even apart from the game results. I am proud of our game day atmosphere, which really seems to be an extension of how most of Hokie Nation treats people, especially guests, game day or otherwise.
Although I was not in attendance this past weekend, I will be in Lane this weekend to watch the real Tech stomp the Jackets!
That is a good moment. Glad to see the Hokie atmosphere was something he enjoyed.
That is a good reminder for all of us. No matter how much we might fret over trivial nuances of the game day experience, for those who haven't experienced an autumn Saturday on the Tech campus and in Lane, it is a gorgeous time. Every single person I've brought to a game for the first time in my three decades of season ticket ownership has been amazed at everything. I always insist on driving them through campus, around the drill field and pointing out the sights. We cruise by the Duck pond, and then we tailgate. We get into the stadium early, so they can get oriented. Afterwards, they always have nothing but compliments about everything. Then they want to know when they can come back.
