Alumni Hosted Tailgates for the Duke and UNC games

First of all, I want to thank Joe for allowing us to advertise for these events on here. It was a priority to make sure he was ok with it before we even signed up for the account, and to his credit, he has been far more gracious than we expected.

So with that said, as you know, the Hokies are coming down to the NC Triangle for 2 away games this year. First, we play our next away game at North Carolina on October 4th, and then we play at Duke on November 15th. Both game times are TBD right now. Our chapter is putting on a tailgate for both games, with a portion of each ticket purchased going to an annual scholarship for a local student. Considering how expensive Tech has become for Out-of-State students, events like this are vital to the chapter in legitimately helping out our local students.

The details for these tailgates are as follows:

@ UNC on October 4th -
Link to Purchase: http://trianglehokies.org/unc-tailgate-2014/
Tailgate hosted by the Carolina Brewery on Franklin St. Food and drinks will be included at cost for the tailgate pass. A ticket to the game is ***NOT*** included with this purchase. Pricing is as follows:

  • Adults - $35.00
  • Child - $25.00

@ Duke on November 15th -
Link to Purchase: http://trianglehokies.org/duke2014/
Tailgate hosted by the Triangle Hokies Alumni Chapter through Duke University. Location will be at Card Gym on the Duke Campus, adjacent to Cameron Indoor and Wade Wallace Stadiums. If you made it down to the tailgate in 2011, the location is within the gym bordering the field we were on last time. We do have the option of purchasing a ticket to the game along with the tailgate pass, which is a really good deal when you consider Duke increased the ticket prices to the VT game to $60 this year. The tailgate includes drink and buffet. Pricing is as follows:

  • Adult Tailgate and Ticket - $70.00
  • Adult Tailgate Only - $40.00
  • Child Tailgate and Ticket - $50.00
  • Child Tailgate Only - $25.00

As both games still do not have set start times, we unfortunately do not have details at this time for when the tailgates will run. That information will be available through our website as soon as we can get it worked out with the venues.

We will be checking this thread, so if you have any questions, leave them here and we'll be sure to reply. Thanks, and Go Hokies!

Thank you for posting this information (and doing it properly) and Thank You Joe for allowing what needs to be allowed and making this a great free Virginia Tech website!

It really is great to have somewhere to tailgate at these away games with other fans. Unfortunately I will not be able to make these two games and I realize Wake Forrest is not in the triangle, but do you know if there is anything like this going on for the Wake game as well?

Not by our Chapter. The NC Triad Alumni Chapter would be handling anything for that game.

Had to look it up, but an email went out from the main Alumni offices earlier this month with the following:

@ Wake Forest, November 22nd
Tailgate parking - $20 per person. Bring your own tailgate, food, and drink and join other Hokies.

Thank you very much! I will probably join in that.

thanks for this info ill def be at the unc and wake games and I hope I can get to the duke game too

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

Good to know!

Just to let everyone know, there are only 40 spots available for the UNC tailgate, so space is limited. If you're going to come to that tailgate, best to order sooner rather than later.

Just wanted to remind everyone about these tailgates.

Deadline for registration to the UNC tailgate is this upcoming Friday. Space is limited, so if you're planning on coming, please sign up ASAP!

Thanks! Time is drawing near for this game, so everyone should consider this great chance to tailgate with Hokies in 'enemy territory' that is a very nice college town!

UNC people, what side of the field is the Tech side going to be for the game? Sections 100-112? Most of the tickets sites including the UNC one do not list home vs visitors side.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Join us in the Key Players Club

Yes, that is correct.

If the MVs are coming down, they will likely be in Sections 100 and 101. That being said, if this is like any of the VT-UNC games in the past, every section will be a VT section.

Also, further shameless plug for our tailgate. Originally, we were going to close down registration on Friday, but we still have 14 spots left. Carolina Brewery on Franklin St is opening their doors at 10am for us, and all bar tap drinks and food are complimentary with your pass.

For those in the area who cannot make the game, we are still planning on having our usual Game Watching Party at the Carolina Ale House on Creekside Dr. (we will not do this with the Duke game, as every officer will be attending).

If the MVs are coming down

They will be there. It's the only game they are traveling to this year.

Well, this is awkward, apparently our great Alumni Chapter doesn't have enough Turkey Legs to edit the original post, so I'll just go ahead and make our update here.

The UNC tailgate has SOLD OUT. Thanks to everyone who has contributed!

Even more exciting, we are proud to announce that we will be welcoming Whit Babcock to the Duke tailgate on November 15th! The plans right now are that he will be around for about a half hour to meet and mingle with everyone in attendance, and will be giving a speech as well. Depending on kickoff (that is, if the game is later in the day) the Cheerleaders will also be on hand to mingle with those in attendance. We are also in discussions to secure a visit from the Hokie Bird as well!

I'm traveling down for the game, and just now getting around to figuring out tailgate plans. Unfortunately I just saw that your event is sold out. Carolina Brewery looks like a really cool place and I was wondering if myself and a few friends would be able to get in at early opening at 10, and just buy beers a la cart?

Unfortunately, no. Their staff is only going to be ready for our group at 10am. That being said, if you do want to hang out before the game, there are some parking lots very close by. Just plop yourselves down in those and have a few drinks (with Bojangles breakfast, maybe?... As Jake Delhomme said, Gotta Have Bo's) before they open the doors for everyone else.

does anyone know of any parking lots that you can grill in? i read the unc website and it said you cant have alcohol (yeah right) or open flames (wtf seriously) in parking lots, im assuming thats on campus. but are there any private lots were you can actually tailgate?

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

UNC is a dry campus, and by letter of the law, you aren't allowed to actually tailgate anywhere on campus or around town, if it involves alcohol.

Can't have open flame stuff in parking garages.

Try the UNC page for rules, which is one of the reasons why we publish a weekly page on this stuff.
We'll bail you out now but, Friday night is too late to planeffectively.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

ha thanks yeah i saw your post earlier in the week which was helpful, unc is a hard place to try and tailgate. my wife went to unc and she had no clue if there were private lots on franklin st that may be better to tailgate in

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

Just a reminder to everyone that the Duke tickets are still on sale through our website! If you are feeling a little left out with all the events going on up in Pitt and you're sitting at home without a ticket, we have you covered for the next away game on November 15th!

And a special thank you to everyone who made it out to the UNC tailgate. We made just over $300 for our Scholarship Fund, which will go directly towards helping out one of our local students during the next school year. So many thanks to all who attended!

Also, we are proud to announce that we are raffling off a Buzz Williams signed basketball this year. I don't think that the man really needs much of an introduction here, so I'll just say this. 1 ticket is $3 and 2 tickets are $5. There is no limit on the number of tickets you can purchase. If you're an avid Hokie collector, this is a must-have.

This is a reminder to everyone that this is your LAST DAY to purchase tickets to the Duke Game and/or tailgate pass through the Triangle Alumni Chapter. I can confirm that Whit Babcock, the cheerleaders, and the Hokie Bird will all be making an appearance. For $70 you get a ticket to the game (face value: $60) and all you can drink all you can eat buffet.

It might be a noon game, but we're going to have a lot of fun. Hope to see as many people as we can next weekend!
