Wow. Unexpected news. Let's hope Josh takes the time to deal with what he needs to and comes back soon.
I think there are some key words missing from the title.
Writing clickbaity titles is just good internet journalistic practice ;)
"After Getting Benched In the ECU Game, You'll Never Guess What JS Did Next!"
Best of luck to Stanford in sorting out his 'personal issues', whatever they might be. Hopefully he remembers the most important thing in attending VT is getting his degree so he is prepared for the next five decades of life, and then after that succeeding in sports so he can grow as an athlete for (maybe) the next decade of his life.
Ugh... makes me immediately think he is not taking the benching from this past weekend very well.
Or maybe his mind was someplace else due to his personal problems which led to the benching
That is my guess, too. I think something is going on with him personally off the field. We all know what a great player he is.
I hope this is the case. I'll just say, I heard he wasn't taking the benching well during the game, and paced back and forth in front of the bench before sitting by himself for the remainder of the game.
How should he have handled it? I wasn't there to watch his body language, but what you described just sounds like he wanted to be back on the field at first. If his head wasn't in the game because of whatever this is about, then that could contribute to the odd behavior as well as his benching. I doubt he's stepping away from the team for being benched
He could have celebrated with his teammates and congratulated the WRs after they scored TDs to tie it up. I heard he just sat there and never showed any emotion when we started to come back and eventually tie the game.
I hope he isn't leaving the team due to his benching. If there is something going on in his personal life then I hope it gets straightened out and he is able to return and contribute. He is a big part of the offense.
He's expressed displeasure with living in Blacksburg before. Perhaps it was a 'last straw' situation.
That sucks, hope he gets the help to deal with whatever is going on.
Seems like a bit of an emotional decision to take a leave of absence at this time... He had the highest ceiling of all the receivers last year, in my opinion. Don't just give up man, keep practicing and improving.
Edit. Apparently my sarcastic joke was too soon.
Nice, bud.
Geeze, every player has a bad game from time to time; they're human just like the rest of us. He seems to have pretty good hands and play-making abilities here:
I just noticed that from the initial camera angle, it looks like #21 for Miami lays Trey Edmunds out with a punch around 6 seconds into the clip. Looking at it from the replay angle shows that its just a coincidence because of the camera angle, but I did a double take when I rewatched the clip just now.
That's funny. Good idea.
That's low, kicking a man while he is down.
The guy is only a sophomore and was at times our best wide receiver last year. Give the man a break and let him take the time he needs to get right. If he doesn't come back, then wish him the best and we move on with Phillips, Ford, Bryn, and Knowles.
I'd like to see Carlis Parker healthy. He could be a very nice complement to Ford/Phillips/Byrn.
Yeah, we can't really single him out, I mean...even Rogers had a drop that game.
I heard he gave that pigskin the "stare of death" afterwards, until it popped.
He didn't drop it. He decided to not let it enter his gravitational pull...thought it would make the game more interesting.
Apparently some people can't take a joke. All of our players have to work through a lot of additional stress and requirements that the vast majority of us didn't have when we were at Tech. I have a lot of respect for all of the student athletes that due their best to represent Tech every week.
I think those were my first ever downvotes.
I think the mass of downvotes is a bit of an overreaction, myself, but that's just the way things are going the last few days. Everyone is on a hair trigger. I'm going to +1 you here for this nice sentiment and to offset some of the damage.
The key to good humor is timing. I can see your post above was probably an honest attempt to lighten the mood, but it's just not the best of times to be poking fun. For all we know, something incredibly serious could be happening to him or his family.
Bet you five bucks you drop 2 out of in the same spot. Not that you would get open. Dick comment buddy.
As I said above, it was an attempt at a joke to lighten the mood. It obviously failed.
Wholesale edit it to be...positive somehow...and I'll leg it for the change.
Time and a place. This wasnt it
meh, I chuckled when I read it. I didn't read it as mean spirited, just sarcastic.
Ditto. And didn't think it was downvote worthy.
Damn, everyone is on edge this week. It was clearly a joke.
I hope things work out for him, and he takes the time he needs.
Hope he figures out what he needs to and rejoins the team. But thank God for Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips. If they weren't in the kid performing well and this happened with Stanford we'd be really screwed at the WR position.
