Week 4 is here and it's damn good slate of games from Thursday night to all day on Saturday. It's early in the season, but it does look like less than 10 teams have legit shots at the playoff and it's quite possible one of them my have two losses. The only thing we do know is the B1G Ten has a bad case of #goacc.

This lsufreek gif from last year, still seems relative, until you realize each "bullet" is worth a hundred thousand #fsutwitter tweets
Week 4 Games
Thursday, September 18th
Auburn -8.5 at Kansas State
7:30 pm ESPN

Bill Snyder Family Stadium has got a lot of Lane to it
- Hot damn, finally a top flight Thursday Night Lights game ... the epitome of new school vs ole school
- You know when you're a bawse when they name the stadium after you and you're still the Head Coach
Pick: K-State getting the points. Love the homedog slowing the game down, keeping it close.
***
Saturday, September 20th
Florida at Alabama -14.5
3:30 pm CBS
- Want to anger and/or depress a 30 to 50 year old Florida fan, ask him to compare Big Ugly Muschamp Ball to the Fun n Gun
- The Lane Kiffin experiment gets real now ... the marquee game at 3:30, all eyes especially Saban's are on him
Pick: Alabama laying the points, I don't trust the Gator O enough.
***
Virginia at BYU -14.5
3:30 pm ESPN

Future stay at home moms of 5
- I'm trying real hard to think of a lamer tailgate environment than BYU's ... all the Sprite and popcorn you want
- A hoo win here and the unthinkable ... a non bottom 10, Mike London ranked uva football team
Pick: uva getting the points, it will be a close game.
***
Oklahoma -6.5 at West Virginia
7:30 pm FOX
- Don't look now, but the Cousins have righted the jalopy a bit, the only good thing about that is Holgo stays around
- Sooners the only worse than losing to Texas, is to losing to wvu and the scent of burnt polyester couches imprinted in your brain forever
Pick: OU covering by a touchdown in a tight one.
***
Clemson at Florida State -20.5
8:00 pm ABC
- FSU hasn't had a 2014 coming out party and the schedule really only has a few big games on it ... Tallahassee is going to be electric
- Last year in Clemson, Chad Morris with a veteran roster ran every gadget play in his arsenal vs FSU and the O was handled. Good luck Cole Stoudt
Pick: FSU with a late score to barely cover.
***
Miami at Nebraska -7.5
8:00 pm ESPN2

It's crazy to think this Bo Pelini pic with the cat has changed how everyone views him.
- Arguably the top fan base in all of college football hosting the worst
- This was a hotshit game from the mid 80's to the early aughts, now it's two teams wanting, but never getting back to that level
Pick:Nebraska covering, fairly easily.
***
Beer of the Week:

Cantillon Cuvee Florian (Zwanze Day 2014)
It's that time of year again, Cantillon's Zwanze day. No one makes better Sours in the world than Cantillon and I have great expectations for this year's offering.
Remember when picking at home it is against the spread.

Auburn -8.5 at Kansas State: Aubie

And of course I have kids football games to go to at 11 and 4 so I'll be watching most of the games via DVR...but I'll take my 3rd graders team to get the points and the win and my 1st grader who plays flag to not cover. Those end arounds with a mix of flag football and little kids who don't understand angles are a potent mix.

Fair enough.
Also it seems like my comment came off way more hostile than I meant it to. I agree with you on the pick, I can't bring myself to do it. Probably why I'm not very good at this ha
If the hostility is directed at LOLUVA, then I'd say it just makes good sense. Won't see me complaining. My original comment was a bit judgemental too

Excellent beer of the week choice. The wife and I are leaving early Friday to make a stop at Devil's Backbone on the way to Blacksburg (from Chesapeake).
they've got a great setup there and batch to batch the most consistently brewed craft beer in the commonwealth.
I'll be at the birch for the last qtr of the game. according to the tkp map, you're pretty close to my boy foster at ynot. great place for very good beer.
Yup, ynot is right down the road from me. Go there quite a bit.
I'm finally getting around to getting to DB. Eager to try the 8 point straight from the horse's mouth so to speak.
Love The Birch (I assume you're referring to the one in Chelsea, Norfolk?) for their unique and overwhelming selection of brews and I frequent Smartmouth as well (along with O'Connor and YVBC). I used to go to MHI periodically for my old job, it definitely had its benefits.
Edit: Wife just informed me we will be going to Wild Wolf now as well.
i've never been to wild wolf, let me know about it.
i'm at smartmouth pretty often. check out beach, i actually think their every day beers are the best in the 757, though alewerks specialty line still reigns supreme.
Notch 9 at Smartmouth is definitely a top dIPA in my book considering it isn't an absolute palate blaster, which seems to be the big trend these days.
I've actually been to Beach once, but only briefly. Norfolk is a bit easier to get to coming from Greenbrier. I'll definitely have to make a return trip.
I'll let you know how Wild Wolf goes, looking forward to it.
Prost!

Auburn cruises - The B12 is a one dog show this year.
Gators keep it close enough.
If we were playing for money, I'd say UVa covers. But we're not, so...fuck that - BYU stomps the Hoos.
Oklahoma covers.
Clemson stays within 20. FSU's defense in 2013 was a lot more special than the 2014 edition.

And for the beer, I'll start at 10:50

Not much time to tailgate for a nooner, so grab something that will get you there in hurry. Also way prefer cans to bottles for away from home. Easier to pack more in a cooler, goes down faster, no opener hassles, easier to compact for disposal, and more discrete for public use. Anyone agree?
A leg for Oskar Blues
i have a can that's a yr old, going to see what happens to it in a couple yrs. can beer age in cans? ida know.
Just seeing a picture of Ten Fidy makes me do this:

Auburn -8.5
Alabama -14.5
Virginia +14.5
Oklahoma -6.5
Clemson +20.5
Nebraska -7.5 (UGLEE game. Over under should be 11.5 or so. both are trbl.)

Auburn -8.5 at Kansas State - c'mon y'all, show War Hokie some love!
Florida at Alabama -14.5 - Bama's D causes Muschamp to scream at his own QB. I guess any D does that so whatever.
Virginia at BYU -14.5 - BYU laying the points. I feel like UVA's "success" will be short lived this season.
Oklahoma -6.5 at West Virginia - Oklahoma to cover. That defense looks nasty, and the offense is no slouch either.
Clemson at Florida State -20.5 FSU to cover. Clemson had a BAD showing against a mediocre UGA team, and this one won't go any better.
Miami at Nebraska -7.5 - Miami for the outright win because Nebraska and Pelini look awful. Stacy Coley as at least one TD from somewhere.

Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout. A friend from Lexington picked up a few for me. Plus some homebrew I made. An orange colored Amber Ale dry hopped with Citra, Centennial, and full cone Cascade.

Beer of the week - speaking of sours (and being an NC beer homer), Wicked Weed is doing big things. If I had to pick one of their sours, I'd have to go with Bretticent.
i've had black angel and having another 2 sours hopefully brought to me this weekend. look for them to be checked in on untappd.
had cantillon gueuze on tuesday ... fantastic, as you'd expect.
First post after my post loss hiatus...I just couldn't bring myself to think about football for a few days.
Anyway, looking at the results, I did horrible last week, and overall I'm tied for 79th, so this is my turnaround week! 6-0 this time!
Auburn
Florida
Virginia - as much as I hate it, they've scored points this season so far, and 2 TDs seems like a massive spread for mediocre vs mediocre.
Oklahoma
FSU - even with Famous Jameis suspended the first half, Clemson has looked pretty ragged.
Nebraska - Bo lifting a cat to announce the arrival of his team upon the field is better than "Swag".

Florida State
A big number but Shellfish U's biggest game, probably of the year. Jameis is only playing the 2nd half which means there will be a lot of scores in the second half. Jameis knows where to "put the ball".
Nebraska
Young SeattleHokie wouldn't have missed this game for the world. Older SeattleHokie will probably be passed out this time. Nebraska b/c why not.
These picks were brought to you by red wine and a shit week at work. I could really use a Hokies win tomorrow. I will be at the bar around 8:50 and have whatever pilsner they have on tap by kick-off.
