Damn you had me beat by 40 seconds. So Joe it'd be greatly appreciated if you could work your magic. I saw this too, however the tweet was from Andrew Friedman at Rivals who mentioned he got carted off the field. This sounds pretty damn serious. Lots of top talent in Virginia going down to knee injuries.

Man, that's awful news. Good luck to Josh in getting better, whatever it is. Some other potential information:

terrible news for a great young man. it reminds me of shai McKenzie's situation. hopefully josh enrolls early at VT so the advanced medical staff can get him back to 100 % . get well soon Josh wherever you decide to go.

He's enrolling early at whatever school he chooses so that should help his recovery immensely.

Absolutely terrible. But Josh will come back! Just a bump in his road

Minor setback for a major comeback

Man I hope he is ok. That is all that matters.

Awful, awful news. I hope the kid's okay and that it's not too serious. At least he has youth and elite physicality on his side - we already know he has the drive and determination to make a full recovery, whatever the end result may be.

I'm sure somebody from the staff will be checking in with him to see how he's doing when things settle down.

damn you hate this for anyone i hope hes able to make a full recovery. the kid is so talented i hope hes not sidelined for too long. he needs to rehab and hopefully take it slow to get back. hes got a long career ahead of him if he takes care of his injuries, good luck to him

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

No broken bone. Dislocated knee. Put back in place. Feel bad that my second thought was can he still make it this weekend...

Jack Bauer fears no one. Except Xavier Adibi.

Why would you feel bad? That's exactly what Josh wants and I bet he is trying and figure out a way to get to VT. However, I doubt he makes it this weekend, so I hope VT and Josh can reschedule and give him the awesome weekend he deserves.

I'm pretty sure the last thing you wanna watch after suffering a leg injury is PJ's chop-block-o'clock offense anyways. All joking aside, looks like he's staying in the hospital for another day (per 247). Hopefully he'll make a full recovery and get back to Blacksburg some other time. Great player, great person. Get well soon, Josh.

Phew! Better news than expected.

Shai would be a great person to talk to about a knee injury in HS this early in the season...

Thought the exact same thing.

Sounds like it isn't nearly as bad as it could have been. Even if he doesn't come to Tech, that is great to hear. I absolutely loathe hearing about bad injuries at the high school level. Just makes me sick to my stomach.

Whether he visits this weekend, or needs to push it off to a later date, just do whats best for him.

It is hard to say for sure what happened to Sweat, but if he did have a knee dislocation (and I am assuming this is tibiofemoral) it is an orthopedic emergency. It is actually a very serious injury and the vast majority of these injuries result in ligament damage as well. The biggest concern is actually to keep the blood supply safe, which can become compromised when those big bones move where they aren't supposed to.

If you think about it, all the knee ligaments (ACL, MCL, etc) are what keep the tibia and femur connected. For the bones to become dislocated, it usually means all these ligaments have been torn. There are some case reports where this doesn't happen, but its not typical.

Just wanted to add my two cents so people don't immediately rush to thinking this is like a finger or shoulder dislocation and it's no big deal. This is a pretty big deal and the immediate concern is to ensure leg viability, not getting back on the football field ASAP.

(That being said it could be a patellar dislocation and that's a completely different thing, but it's hard to say based on simply knee dislocation)

The reports I saw said knee-cap dislocation. Does that distinction matter or is it all the same?

Yes, that is very different-a patellar, or knee-cap, dislocation is very different from the knee joint being dislocated.
Depending upon the extent, a knee-cap being out of place can be treated without surgery.
A knee being out of place is entirely different as JMOCK stated.
Just have to wait on the details.

Can I just say how awesome it is to have such highly educated contributors here? Awesome to have a doctor's perspective on such things. Let's continue to hope for the best for Josh.

How different is that from a subluxation?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Subluxation and dislocation can be used pretty much interchangeably.
There are different degrees/types depending upon the joint involved.
The implication is that the affected joint requires medical attention to get 'back in place.'
This can be as simple as a manipulation, or as involved as surgery, etc.

Was wondering the same thing. A guy I know that dislocated his knee had a lot damage. The recovery was long.

Hope his injury is less severe and his recovery goes well. I'm looking forward to watching this guy cause chaos on college offenses.

^big words

Ugh, this is tough for the young man. This doesn't worry me at all, he's still on the top of my list. Let's hope all the rest of the tests he goes through reveal nothing more serious and that he rehabs fully and quickly.

I actually saw the highlight from this game during the local news Friday football wrap up (Wavy 10 in the 757). They briefly showed the play he got hurt on, and it was pretty bad looking. I had to look away from the screen for a moment. I am glad to hear its no broken bones because it looked like that could have easily been the case. I hope he can recover quickly and get back out there.

Good luck in your recovery, Josh.
