Other football happening: 9/20

Despite my sadness, I still love college football and I think a lot of other people here will still be watching other games today. Currently, BYU has begun to take it to UVA, ECU is in a shootout with UNC (and is winning, so take that!), Florida and Alabama are playing a close one, and there's plenty more action later with Miss St-LSU and FSU-Clemson. Want to talk about other games? Post here and let's enjoy the remainder of the college football schedule for this weekend.

ECU is absolutely smoking UNC. Even in our bad games, we still at least look like we belong on the field. DBU may have given up 300+ yards in the game against Carden, but Carden put up 300+ yards in the first half against UNC. And right now they're driving.

Yea, ECU is legit. Anyone that thought otherwise hasn't been paying attention. Good team. A win over UNC would make me very happy.

Same here. Then again, it's looking like it's gonna be a first-to-60-wins type of affair.

I still think UNC can come back! I have a gut feeling!

Go Hokies!

makes our loss look better...since UNC is suppose to win the Coastal

A new season...new hope

Utah smoking Michigan in the Big House

looks like BYU is exacting their revenge on LOLUVa 41-26 with 7:42 left

UNC is getting smoked even with James Worthy not playing. Makes me feel a little better

BYU ball with 5:53 left, and a comfortable lead. Looks like CML is still rotating QBs.

Crazy... If we would have won this week the ECU loss wouldn't look so bad.. However after the abysmal loss today it makes people go even crazier and start thinking beamer should get fired.

Ok brewer threw 3 picks- all three were terrible and GT cashed in on all of them.
We got the ball on the 10 and we ran 3 of the dumbest plays i have ever seen. why is jc getting first reps on the 10 yardline? looking at you beamer- he didnt play but 2 snaps and that was one of them fml..

Then why didn't we even try to throw it into the endzone? If Lefty is all about finding mismatches then a jc misdirection isn't the play thats going to work. Why not try a fade like in the OSU game? That worked well, or a double move something but don't run it when we have shown to absolutely suck.

Geeze, BYU and UVA have racked up the penalties today.

BYU leads the country in penalties I think. VT not far behind.

UVA fails to recover onside kick. I have a feeling beating them this year will be more enjoyable than most.

I'm never happy that we lost a game, but the fact that ECU is dropping 70+ on UNC makes me feel a lot better about how our game went down.

"Exit light..."

That just means that if we beat UNC, we beat a very weak, overrated team. And if we lose to them, then we've lost to a very weak, overrated team. Thinking about it, playing UNC is a no win situation for us. We should drop them from the schedule.

There is no such thing as a "bad win," particularly if it's a conference win.

Sigh... It was a TIC post, based on the overwhelming number of people who immediately wanted to run skurred from ECU after last week's loss. Remove ECU, insert UNC.

Seeing the result of ECU against UNC only reinforces my belief that we should drop them from the schedule.

Its not that I want to run scared from them. I like the fact we have a good team on the schedule that presents a challenge every year. The problem is that they're in the American, and the national respect of ECU just isn't there. So while they're a good team, and while there should be absolutely no shame in losing to them, in reality, that is as far from the case as possible. A loss to ECU, from the national respect standpoint, destroys your season, and a win against them is meaningless because, well they're American you should beat them. If we're going to schedule a team that good, I want it to be against a team that will get the respect you deserve for beating a team that good, and if you lose, it shouldn't ruin your year. Thats the problem with ECU on our schedule.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Not the way all the commentators were talking tonight. I believe the phrases "major bowl invitation" and "dangerously good" were used. Maybe others still look down on them, but respect for ECU is growing. Quickly.

"Exit light..."

Helped us a lot last week when we were getting destroyed nationally for the loss. And their respect will reboot back to American standards next year, because that's what the pundits do, regardless of how good they may or may not be.

Its not like they were a bad team last year, no, they were a very good team. But that didn't matter when people looked at the loss like "oh, thats ECU, you suck for losing to them". We went from 17th to unranked to losing at the final whistle to a team that just hung 70 on UNC.

I don't know who was destroying us, but they're probably not worth listening to. Most sports writers and analysts I heard mentioned the typical lines about "letdown loss" and defensive breakdowns, but the focus shifted well away from us when BC ran all over USC, which was the far bigger and more interesting upset of the week.

"Exit light..."

The fact that we went from 17th to unranked by losing to them shows the respect people had for ECU when we lost. You lose to a team as good as ECU at the whistle, at worst, you should drop a couple spots. We dropped out of the polls.

THAT is the problem with playing ECU.

Fortunately, the season didn't end next week and a week 4 poll proves nothing at the end.

Also, ECU is poised to win out the rest of the way if they keep their heads in the game. I predict that, when all is said and done, this GT loss will hurt our perception much more than the ECU loss did.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Which make this Chokie Hokie appearance against GT even worse.

Well, OSU was also ranked 8th, and they were clearly not the 8th best team in the country and perhaps aren't even top-25. The first month of polling is heavily biased on people's preseason assumptions and means squat.

"Exit light..."

Agree, the risk/reward ratio just isn't there .. I guess the good news is that Carden won't be there next year

My thoughts on the rest of the day.

1.) Don't feel as bad about losing by 7 to ECU after seeing them drop 70 on UNC.
2.) UNC appears to not like to play defense. But, they did put close to 40...so that game could be a toss up.
3.) Indiana beat Missouri? It could be the start of some fun upsets in the SEC tonight.
4.) Why was I surprised to see UVA with 0 timeouts during the last four minutes of the game?
5.) I know we're playing a directional Michigan next week, but for the love of the Hokie Bird, I cannot remember which one. Even if I look at the schedule, I'll forget it within five minutes.

1) Agreed.
2) Whatever little bit of defense UNC played under Butch Davis, they threw out the window when Larry Fedora came to town.
3) It looks HORRIBLE for the SEC that one of their ranked teams lost to a Big Ten perennial doormat... even at home.
4) Because Mike London.
5) Western. Western, Western, Western, Western, Western, Western, Western. lol

re point 5.) Ah, thanks...wait, which one? I wanna say Central....

Every second counts

they lost but put up a good fight against the #1 team in the country. I bet that kicker is going to have a long night

Or whoever called that 4th and 1 play in OT.
