First off, I just wanted to let everyone know that I HATE the Steelers but support Hokies in the NFL. It really irks me that every time the Steerlers play on National Television when the Defense is introduced Jason Worilds always shouts out his High school/Middle School and Ive even heard him say "lunch Pail D". Trust me I know I sound like a brat saying this, but I wish he would just shout out "Virginia Tech". I played Football growing up so I know how High school recruits all watch Sunday Night Football, and just think it helps a little for name recognition to hear "Virginia Tech". Not everyone knows who went where so just give VT some props.....Im just Ranting fellas, still sour about yesterdays game.

Rodgers repped Butte Community College week 1. At least Worilds has given us "lunch pail d" every so often. Gotta wonder how Cal felt about that one
just because you played high school football does not mean that all high school recruits watch sunday night football... And many players shout out their highschool/hometown.
Don't see what the big deal is here. Some players like to give a shout out to their hometown, nothing wrong with that.
i couldnt understand him actually so didnt even know what he said. he gives us the lunch pail defense shout out every once in awhile which is cool
OP admitted he sounded like a brat for complaining about such a minor topic. I'd advise to follow one's instincts on such a topic. Jason owes VT nothing, he has repaid us many times over by being an outstanding example of a Hokie. IMO he never needs to give us another shout out. If he chooses to do so, great. If not, great. I'm just thankful I got to watch him play in orange & maroon. He could shout out his kindergarten class, and I'd be fine with it.
A little advertising for VT couldn't hurt recruiting.
Thank you.
You know what kind of advertising attracts recruits? Winning ball games. Not a one second mention among several others on an NFL intro, but being on ESPN and winning the game. That's the advertising that attracts recruits. This is whining about trivial matters that mean nothing. We can't beat ECU or GT in Lane Stadium and people are complaining about a 1-second intro? Give me a break.
Winning is the advertising that attracts recruits.
Winning is extremely important, but there's not a single cure-all when it comes to recruiting. It's a bit naive to think Worilds, or any Tech player, shouting out the Hokies during a nationally broadcast football game couldn't help recruiting in some instances.
Yeah, what we really need right now, as Hokie Nation - after watching our current team lose two straight games because lack of focus among other things - is to start sniping at former Hokie players who have succeeded in the NFL because they don't wave the flag enough to suit the overly emotional of us. Yeah, that's really productive and a really good message to send recruits - if you don't push us above EVERY other foundation of your success, we'll snipe at you.
I understand now...
I actually don't think you understand.
1. Worilds, isn't obligated to say "Virginia Tech" during his SNF intro, but again, you're naive if you don't think it's a shot in the arm for recruiting. I've interviewed and spoken with recruits, and I can say with 100% certainty they pay attention to players at their position in the NFL and what colleges they came from. It's a boost for Virginia Tech.
2. Lack of focus? No. Wrong.
What I understand is that in theory, we'd all love for every Hokie in the NFL to take every opportunity to give VT props.
But in the real world, what we have is a message board thread that criticizes one of the successful Hokies who DID make it to the NFL for taking one opportunity to say something other than the company line.
So this example of a successful Hokie in the NFL gets sniped at, while recruits that check out this message board see resentful fans that seemingly can't be forgiving of the smallest ommissions of 'recruiting advantages'.
That's what I understand - both the theoretical and the real world application.
If you think it would be of no good thing to have Fuller declare he's from VT then be the driving force of a win, by way of 2 pics, several good tackles and get the game ball and be the NFL defensive player of the week in only his 2nd NFL game....
Game announcers declaring where you were taught to play like that several times a game because you have made a positive impact.
Declaring your school on national TV at the start of the game because you are an impact player in the NFL.
These are the things these young gentlemen dream of.
That sir, is also winning.
I totally agree. one misconception is that VT doesn't put DL in the NFl. with recruiting battle going on for some of the nation top DE/LB, the hokies could use the shout out even though worilds doesn't have to do it.
You guys are seriously under-analyzing this.

I actually like how the players get creative and don't just list their colleges, I am waiting for one to rep his pee-wee team!
I did hear a guy one time declare his Pop Warner team.
