1/3 of the way there...

The Hokies have now completed 1/3 of their regular season slate. As been said before, NOBODY would have predicted THIS 2-2 record.

So far though, in your opinion, what are the biggest surprises, pleasant or otherwise, as far as player performances?

For me, pleasantly, it's been Deon Clark and Ken Ekanem. Light bulbs are really going off for those guys. Unpleasantly, through no fault of his own, is Trey Edmunds. I really thought he'd be on the field by now. The Hokies sure could use his services as a healthy tailback.

Carry on.

I felt like Lane Stadium was really loud last weekend. I've been going to games since 2005 (my freshman year), and last weekend was the loudest I've heard it in years. Definitely louder than the Horseshoe. And it was a nooner game that was agonizing to watch in the hot sun. Seriously, way to go fans.

It was a catch

This

"Virginia Tech: Our trees have more school spirit than your students."

It was pretty loud, especially at the end of the game when we were all going crazy in preparation for the 4th and 15. Too bad the game didn't end there.

I had zero voice by then - My normal tone of voice wasn't much different than that of a 57 year old chain smoking hooker's...

That is currently the state of my voice this morning...

@AMB4VT

I felt like it was pretty consistently loud, though. And the stadium felt full and energized. I haven't felt Lane like that in a while. I don't know if it's just the OSU win, or if it's changes Whit has made to engage students more, or maybe this crop of students isn't quite as spoiled as the last ones... no clue. Just feel like it's better than I've seen it in a while.

Ekanem and entire LB corps have been my biggest pleasant surprises. The sloppy play and ints have been my biggest disappointments.

1- Win at Ohio State & play of Brewer. 2- The continual asinine penalties.

1- Win at Ohio State & play of Brewer.

Hasn't Brewer's play been a bit of a double-edged sword? I know the blame for all those interceptions cant be entirely placed on him, but still.

Leg for use of the word asinine (really agree with 2 as well)

Trey is out there, mostly on special teams... but he has been in the backfield here and there (although just got his first 2 carries this past week) , but luckily the play of the Freshmen are allowing Trey to get back to 100% before rushing him in there

Pleasant surprise - just how much all the freshmen are contributing. In a couple years, this team is going to be a monster.
Bigges Disap- *TWEEEET* "Prior to the comment, we have an illegal substitution penalty, on the offense - 12 men in the huddle. Thats a 5 yard penalty, third down"

Have to agree with you on Ekanem and Clarke. Chase Williams too, for that matter.

Isaiah Ford!!

You could say that both my biggest disappointment and most pleasant surprise have been both the defense and the offense. We've seen both units look and brilliant and mind numbingly bad. If Brewer can rally this team a la Druck, Randall, and Tyrod did after bad Septembers, than this will be a memorable season.

Biggest Suprises: The new kids on the block. I know there was a lot of speculation about the freshman talent, but Ford, Hodges, Williams, Shai, Cam. Those guys are going to be solid performers for years to come. One can imagine what they are going to be like this time next year. Yikes.

Disappointments: Giving games away. I know the GT game was a game VT melted down in the 4th quarter and should have closed the door on your biggest Coastal threat. When you come back against ECU to tie it at home with less than 2 minutes left, you gotta pin them deep and make them beat you on a long field. You can't give them that extra 15 yards (not saying it was the difference). But kicking out of bounds doesn't help.

Was going to lob some jabs at Brewer, but they were picked off.

The Dude Abides

Broken legs don't heal quickly!!!!! Trust me I've been saying it for a while I didn't think hed be 100% for a while. I still feel mine occasionally and I'm two years removed from a boot. Give trey patience, that guy is one hell of a hard worker and athlete

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Trey looked good the couple of runs they gave him Saturday. I suspect we'll see more and more of him as the season continues. Some of our play calling and blocking on runs which lead to repeat zero yd plays is just frustrating. How many times did that happen?

Isaiah Ford, without a doubt. 21 catches in 4 games, if he keeps up his good play may be one of best ever before his career ends. Cam looking great also.

Don't look now, but Ford is on pace to be our first 1,000 yard receiver.....in 12 games.

biggest surprise is the win at Ohio state. biggest disappointment the number of momentum-killing INTs by Brewers and the high rate of penalties by the entire team.

Allen Ox

Biggest Awesome: Ekanem, Deon Clark, Shai, Marshawn, Ford, Cam, Chase, Riley

Biggest Not Awesome: Brewer's interceptions, Marshawn's fumbles, penalties, Riley, Stanford not maintaining momentum since last year, penalties, can't run the ball, can't catch the ball sometimes, Brewer taking shots, penalties, 4th and 15, penalties

You don't like Riley?

I listed him under both because I like him but I seem to recall him getting beat pretty well. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

Yeah, I could see that. You could say the same for every CB. Some time you love the, some times you don't. Even Fullers.

Not sure where to ask this, but I just noticed "Virginia Tech football" is trending on Yahoo... is there anything major going on?

Mangus transferred to ECU... That's my guess

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Unpleasant - Brandon Facyson struggling with a stress fracture. He's a great player, and this injury has been rough for him. And no offense to Chuck Clark, but we haven't been able to replicate the Fuller-Facyson dork magic from last season with him.

Live for 32. Ut Prosim. Let's Go, Hokies.
