I sincerely hope he does red shirt. He was a demon last year before he got hurt. give him time to get healthy and get back to the ball hawk days

Agreed, better to have the 100% next year over the injured player this year.

we are really missing brandon but hopefully he gets healthy soon wish him the best

Also, agree that redshirt is the way to go. At the very least keep him out this week and reevaluate him before UNC.

If you play it, they will win.

Player health always comes first, and I certainly hope he can rehabilitate well

I like this, give him the proper recovery time so he can come back next year and be a beast again. he's so good when he's 100%. his health is the most important thing

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

Plus, it can only improve our corners for next year with the added experience.

He and little Fuller are no doubt gone after next season so I say get him healthy and make a good run next year. Get better soon!

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

He wants to be a Doctor. Doubt he'll leave early (at least before 4 years of school). Of course NFL money tends to change a lot of minds.

We put the K in Kwality

I wore a red shirt today at work...

Perhaps I should go to Blacksburg and casually walk in front of Beamer to get the point across...

In some occupations, a red shirt is a job hazard

But then there is the guy in the red shirt on the field during tv timeouts - his job isn't such a hazard, unless he is contracted to be at LOLUVA - then he would find himself in 1 of 2 situations:

1) without a job because LOLUVA is never televised
2) competing with Timecop for timeouts.

Reminds me of The Golden Triangle. Or was it Kauai?

That would make perfect sense for him as well as for the team.

He wouldn't be the only beastly DBU CB to take a medical RS and come back beastly.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Well, it wouldn't make sense if he can come back in a few weeks and he's planning on going pro early. If either of those things are true, we shouldn't redshirt him. Just wait until he's ready to play.

as mentioned above he wants to be a doctor after football (heart surgeon if i remember correctly). to do that he needs to graduate so I don't think he's leaving early

VT CEE Class of 2016/2017

5 years, 2 degrees, 33 football games as a student, and 2 Cassell court stormings later, I bleed Maroon and Orange

To do that he'd also need to go to Med School, which he's not doing if in the NFL.

myron rolle of FSU- He was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and studied at St. Edmund Hall,[1] Oxford University for the 200910 academic year in order to earn an MSc in Medical Anthropology.[2]

drafted by the tennesse titans...so techincally i think he could do both if he really wanted to.

and someone with aspirations to be a brian surgeon doesnt seem like someone who would be willing to just give up and say ehh ill go for NFL money. i wouldnt think anyways.

Rolle never played in a game in the NFL, retired in 2013 and is now in Medical School. It would make more sense to attempt Med school after his career in the NFL, but either option sounds pretty awesome. Whatever makes him happy.

If he redshirts and plays all four years, he will have five years to graduate in Biological Sciences. If he doesn't redshirt, plays half a year this year then plays 2 more years (not leaving early for the NFL), he has four years to graduate with a degree in Biological Sciences. Even if he leaves for the NFL the minute he can, he still have three years and three summers to finish a degree, something that is done quite regularly for football players.

Unless he is planning on staying at VT for five years, I don't see how redshirting helps the team at all (assuming he can play some this year). Maybe he wants to stay five years to get as much free education as possible. Or maybe he won't be an NFL player at all.

But if his career continues as it was last year + he's healthy at some point in October + he isn't planning on staying for five years to collect all the degrees he can = he shouldn't redshirt.

(my guess is that he won't be healthy this year. Reminds me of Exum and Coles last year.)

The window for the NFL is a lot smaller than the window for education. He can go pro to pay for med school.

rolle was drafted and then delayed his NFL career a year to further his education. justa thought.

It's not just the money. There is a lot to be considered. Let's say he gets injured, a concussion or something (hypothetical, I'm hoping that never happens) and ruins his ability to study, concentrate, focus. Then is he ever able to go back to school or have the career he has wanted? Consider the school's requirements, too. I know people who were eminently qualified, near flawless transcripts, and they were still denied admission. Facyson would be smart to stay in school for five years (assuming the RS) and get a couple of degrees (B.S. and M.S. or multiple B.S.) with the best GPA possible. Are med schools going to be OK with a guy being out of school for several years, having maybe forgotten some information? If it's more than 5 years, his MCATs no longer count and he has to do them again. Is that something he's willing to do?

Hey, what's going on with Ronny VanDyke this year? Is he still injured? Only 3 tackles through 4 games.

It is obvious he isn't 100%. He can't help us much in his current state and he certainly would be better off getting himself healthy and getting another year back for both the team and his football future.

Having had a chance to talk to Brandon a little bit last year when he made a visit to Tech Talk Live (I "interned" with IMG and helped with the show), he's a really smart kid that also happens to be a very good football player. Whatever decision it is that faces him (taking a Medical RS this year, deferring med school, etc.), he will carefully consider the options and make a wise choice.
If he's not healthy yet from spring surgery, it would seem to me that a year to rehabilitate, get healthy, and watch film would be the best option for him at this point.

yes.

Apparently the coaching stuff is considering a similar move for Maddy. Foster said it was an "ace card we have" for the DT.
