Darius Fullwood at the 2014 The Ohio State University NFTC. [Student Sports]
I've officially decided to decommit from The University of Kentucky. This was the hardest choice in life but I got to do whats right for me.— Dee Fullwood (@realdeewood) September 24, 2014
IM PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT I WILL BE COMMITING TO VIRGINIA TECH

There's more of a story coming once Alex or I talk to Dee. In the meantime, read Alex's interview with him about his most recent visit to Tech and my interview with Dee from June.

Hell yes! Underrated prospect in MHO. Offers from Bama, FSU, MSU, Miami, Tenn., obviously UK (lol) etc. Welcome Dee!
I knew it.
When I woke up this morning, I just had the feeling I wouldn't last the day without getting Fullwood
I was getting worried myself, so I took some dork magic pills at lunch. Seems like they finally worked.
If the effects last more than 4 hours, you may want to consult your doctor.
Or call your friends and brag about it...
I'm going to get the fullwood fully dipped after work. That should take care of it.
I see what you did there. Put it away now!
This is a family oriented web community. /sarcastica
And this is how families are started.
OT: At the end of Alum07's first TKP year I'm going to need a gallery of all his avatar/profile pics
Agreed! I didn't know who he was at first because I recognize everyone from their picture. But we always have room for Cartoons Plural
All is well in Hokie Nation. I have been re-energized for this season! Now lets just hope this recruiting class finishes strong and makes an impact before I graduate!
Yes , YES.,~~~~~~ YES Welcome to the good GUYS(best fans in the country) Now lets flip some more! And HELL YES
Fullwood has to count as at least half of a Fuller. amiright?!
Possibly a cross between a Wang and a Fuller? Fuller-Wang...Full-Wang...Fullwood.
Possibly NSFW, so I will link rather than embed:

Can't believe no one's thought of that before...
Since when is basic math NSFW?
I love this so much
I say 3/4 given the name AND high school.
ACC! ACC! ACC!
C'mon man, don't start that $ec ish, we are better than that!
#goacc
We deserve this and bonus that he is from my high school too!!!!! Viva good counsel, Viva Kendall Fuller!!!
We've lost our share of verbal committs, last year Javon Harrisson (might not have gotten the name right) and so on and so on...way to go Dee.
Great news! Fullwood had a nice offer list and appears to be a great talent. Go Hokies...
It looks like our recruiting is starting to look a little Fuller.
And just for kicks:

Exicted?
Our d-line recruiting is incredible this cycle.
I like that he chose to use a red bird instead of a chicken emoji.
Really hoped to see this headline:
"Hokies get a Fullwood!"
Fullwood thrusts Hokies into a happy place.
"Hokies D stiffens with Fullwood, while UVA's still appears dysfunctional"
penis
Dude.
Did you even read the community guidelines.
/sarc
Lol. You got down voted for 'penis'. I swear.... Some people are all business....when talking sports... On the internet. It boggles the mind!
Have a leg.
Oh yeah, penis!
You're in trouble now.
It was probably the second penis that ruined it.
Much like a blind date in Thailand.

A buddy told me.
That second penis, it'll really get after ya
If there is ever a TKP comments hall of game, this chain must be one of the inductees.
makes me think of SNL Rosetta Stone skits
Welcome to Hokienation Dee! Excited to see you in Maroon and Orange in the near future!
Awesome, now let's get another big commit this week!
This is why you keep talking to targets up until they sign their letter of intent
YEEEYEEEEEEEEE

Could this get the commitment snowball rolling?! I won't Sweat over it!
#ChoppinFullwood
That sounds.....painful..... :/
Bud Foster just walked into Mark Stoops' house and kicked him in the shins, drank his sweet tea, and left with a Defensive Tackle.
Give me Fullwood?
sheesh, good way to break a maul handle...
I use that same fiskars splitter and with the same bungee method. Works fantastically.
what kind of wood? This looks like its up north where the selection is limited. Maybe a spruce or something.
Doesn't look or split like Oak.
Ya, wet, unseasoned, stringy oak is the worst.
I'm going with Poplar from that gif. Rail straight, not dense, relatively dry, and few knots.
Might be maple
Bark is too thin for poplar IMO.
Yeah, it's an evergreen. So it's nearly worthless to burn. He's wasting more energy splitting it than he will get in return. If its not oak, locust or cherry, it's not worth your time.
This thread really is full of wood, isn't it?
Once you get so far north, the hardwoods are sparse and you gotta burn whats there...
Yeah, I've got a BIL in Alaska and Spruce is all they have. So sad.
Can you give us a rundown on what makes good firewood, and why?
Hardwood is good wood. All I know is in Virginia, anything with Oak in the name is primo and your Lob lolly pines burn fast and hot. Black gum is knotty and sucks to split. Hickory's gucci I think though. The variety of arboreal flora around the country is astonishing though.
Locust is also hard to split but burns for quite a while.
TKP, where the conversation starts at recruits, drifts to boners and then wraps up nicely with firewood.
I love the snap, crackle and pop you get from burning locust wood.
Generally speaking, the more dense, the better, because hard, dense woods burn slower and hotter than soft woods. The rate at which something burns is often a function of the exposed surface area (this is why saw dust burns so quickly--the more granular the particles, the more surface area is exposed per unit mass). Soft woods are porous with air pockets and whatnot, so more surface area is exposed and they burn quicker. Also, denser woods will have a higher energy content per unit volume so they burn at higher temperatures.
As others have mentioned, pine is notoriously soft and burns very quickly without generating much heat. In my neck of the woods, mesquite is the best because it is very dense, burns hot, and a sizable piece will last pretty much all night. It's also great for grilling.
I like your answer better.
It's a fine line between how fast it burns and how easy it takes to flame. Evergreens, especially when dry, burn like newspaper. It takes fire easy...to easy. But you can get on the other end of the spectrum, like sycamore, which is full of water. It's difficult to light and really smokes instead of burns. And it's heavy as hell. So you want something that lights fairly easy and doesn't burn too fast. O. A. K.
There is a lot of wood that is on the margin of burning, like walnut and maples, that are prevalent and aren't terrible. But if you're into burning firewood for heat, oak is as good as it gets. In my area, locust and cherry are also prevalent. If someone gives me some maple, it's fine, but I won't go out of my way for it. I made the mistake once of offering to clear a newly felled pine tree for an old woman. the wood was green and heavy and too spongy to split, and in the end, hardly produced any BTU's.
I forgot to mention the last important point: coals. Lots of wood burn then become ash very quickly. A good wood lingers in the coal range for a while, long enough for you to realize you need to add more wood. Too many times I have used some exotic wood someone has given me that has taken to a flame really well then checked on it later and it's all gone. Then you have to restart the fire.
I'm enjoying this part of the conversation.
I am far from an outdoorsman, but I do a lot of smoking each weekend. My wife got me a very nice vertical smoker last year and I use the damn thing religiously. I have found pretty good success with good chunks of hickory and apple wood. I can usually let them go over a low flame and they last me through overnight smokes, etc.
Very interesting to hear some of the science behind it, which is quite frankly not something I know a lot about.
I do a lot of smoking as well and I just go cut a branch off the apple tree. When it's green, produces more smoke and doesn't ash out too quick.
Here's a pretty good list based on btu's.
thathttps://chimneysweeponline.com/howood.htm
I agree with some posters below that locust is pretty good. Burns like coal. Not a good flame but nice and hot. Lots of standing dead timber that doesn't have to be seasoned. Any dense, dry hardwood is usually a good bet. I love my wood.
Oaks are split between the red oak family and white oak family. The red oak family has leaves that are pointy and includes black oak, a common firewood in virginia. (Also would include pin, willow, swamp).
The white oak family has rounded/lobed leaves and includes Live oaks and I believe Burr Oaks, of which the best specimen in Va is (hopefully still) on the drill field right in front of Burruss.
White oaks are stringy and hard to split. Red oaks are much less so and can be remarkably easy to split. One of many reasons the red oak is Americas best tree.
Thanks for all the detailed info!
Yes, I have this splitter as well. One of my favorite tools. Got a lotta oak, hickory, and maple up here
except that yours has more horsepower
Bud's wife when he gets home:
"Is that a Fullwood in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"
Yes
Mondays Are Cool Happy Occassions
Nice old-school TCB007/Macho Harris reference, right?
I was hoping someone would get that reference!
Don't forget about this weekend!
It may not always look the prettiest - but we can chop some wood with the best of them!
Welcome aboard, Dee!
Is it me, or does it look like Beaker's sporting some Fullwood there?
I think everyone is. We have a huge Dee...fensive recruiting class.
I don't know how to make a post to do this but,
I would like to apologize to the TKP community for being overly critical and "harsh" these past 2 weeks. We beat Ohio State and I was on cloud 9 and feeling great. Then I lost 2 very close friends in less than a week. I was looking forward to Saturday to bring my spirits up but then ECU happened and with my current state of mind I just sort of went off the freakin' deep end. I'm working away from home and don't really get much other than VT football to brighten my day. It's one of the few things I still get exited about in my old age. I'm in WVU/Buckeye land so it's not like these guys wanna talk to me about football. However, Once again. Sorry for being a douche and I hope to see Lots more news like this young man Dee committing to Frank and the boys. Thanks Dee, you gave me the first good news I've had in 3 weeks!
sorry for your loss! we all lose it from time to time! once a hokie always a hokie! hang in there! #hokienation #hashtag
Yesss!
BOOM!!! HOW BOUT THEM HOKIES!!!
GIFSoup
Have you ever seen Foster cartwheel because of a fullwood?
So you're saying we have another future OL on our hands??
This reminds me of the jello in Owens back in the day....(shudder)
Hey, Bagman - without breaking any NCAA rules, can you tell us what you (may or may not have) given him to swing him to the good guys?
VT's Lack of D Line Depth.
Well we may be on out last fuller but at least we have a fullwood now! Talk about a future bell cow
Welcome to Hokie Nation Dee! Hopefully he will be the first of multiple big time prospects committing to the Hokies!
This can't do anything but encourage some of the other recruits to come here! Go Hokies!
This puts me in a great mood. Up votes for everyone!
Fullwood will be chopping wood with Bud Foster. Kendal & Kein are becoming good recruiters for the hokies.
"I'll take all the 6'4 250 pound d-linemen for $1000 Alex"
I'm at my office and just screamed "hell yeah!" as loud as I could. scared a few people. this is effin awesome!
Clearly that crowd...especially on the 4th and 15...won him over.
That was the loudest I've heard Lane in a long time.
it was deafening and I was up in sec 31. i cant imagine how loud it was on the field.
There was an 80-85 yr old man and his wife sitting next to us...during that moment I looked over and they were both STANDING on their seats screaming. Go Hokies!
That is epic
good thing we didn't hit a harmonic for their hips.
I was in 31 too, if you saw someone standing all game in a maroon with orange sleeves #1 jersey that was me. But that was one of the most intense Lane moments I can remember.
Shocked. Honestly I am shocked. AWESOME.
Ahhhhh yeah!!!! Fullwood and Toliver III and maybe even settle this weekend.
Glad to be back Home!!!
Welcome Back, JC!
And Taylor commits on Friday or Saturday.
I hope this stays true: (shameful repost from the Brewer/Motley thread, but it's buried now)

Welcome back JC. How was Belize?
I have a strange feeling that his jersey will be very popular as many will enjoy sporting that name on their backs! ;) welcome to hokie nation
Awesome news!
Nice to hear we flipped a player from an SEC school. Hope that trend continues with a school a bit further south...
Wish he could suit up this week...
This may have already been covered, but what makes us think he'll be a DT and not a DE? Rivals and 247 Sports have him listed as DE.
My uneducated guess would be that will we be gentry-fying him and that he won't be staying at 250lbs. But someone with more football knowledge should chime in.
I would love for us to line up with 6'4", 265lb DEs. The strength to hold the edge is nice to have out there.
This is just so#winning

Dee put a little mamba in my samba with that news!
I guess Hokie Nation won't be able to stand up for a while now since, you know, we have a Fullwood.
Definitely not if we're in our SWEAT pants, amirite?
Not unless we get them Taylor-ed.
Then we would be Tolliver the recruiting websites
You could say our recruiting class just went all....
I'm going to bring my trapper keeper up to the board with me (said in scratchy-teenaged-voice).
When I read trapper keeper I immediately thought of this...
Fullwood gets this guy dancing....
Josh Sweat will get this...
Woke up this morning to this news and was like.
Very very solid pickup by the staff, love the dedication they are putting towards recruiting the needs that they have and making sure that they get filled no matter what.
Must resist urge to Fullwood joke...
If anyone else needs an antidote to these dancing gifs, I will leave this here...

Drat! I already used bleach, so everything is a blur.
Whatever it is you just posted though, it's still leaving me with Fullwood.
We have a fullwood and we are getting Whitehead. YAYAYAYAYAY
Coach is excited.

Reminds me a lot of Corey Marshall, even playing some 3-4 DE the way Marshall often did in HS. More raw than Marshall but perhaps a little faster.
Once Bud and Wiles get to him he'll be a monster.
how was this on CNN?
anthony bourdain, perhaps?
