The Jameis Winston case keeps getting more interesting - accusations of hush money being offered

Lawyers in Jameis Winston case dispute settlement talks

Interesting set of back and forths going on down in Florida right now. The Winston lawyers went to the media yesterday and accused the alleged victim's of trying to extort Winston for $7M to keep quiet, and now the other lawyers have come back with the following:

Said Clune in a statement: "The facts that Mr. Cornwell chose not to disclose are that it was he himself who reached out to our client's former counsel Patricia Carroll to discuss paying off our client. Patricia Carroll didn't' even know who David Cornwell was until he called. Mr. Cornwell then himself flew down from Atlanta to negotiate with Ms. Carroll.

"Settlement discussions were immediately unproductive as Cornwell was crude and insulting going so far as to say 'your client likes to (expletive) football players,'" he added. "When told that the client's main concern was not money but that Winston be held accountable for his actions, Cornwell threatened to sue our client and her parents for civil racketeering in an effort to intimidate them into staying quiet."

Personally, I'm growing tired of the whole thing, but for some reason I just can't turn away. Seems like each day is bringing in some new absurd charge that just takes the whole thing to a new surreal level.

Safe to say, it doesn't appear he's going to be out of the news anytime soon, and not for the right reasons.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

Somehow I'm really not surprised

Big money always brings out the worst behavior in everyone, involved in these cases.Agree, I think everyone has heard enough about Winston, wish he would disappear, so do a lot of FSU people.

Social media is a wicked thing. Athletes, especially the high profile ones, need to realize just how transparent they are and the degree to which they are under scrutiny. College kids will be college kids is just not a good enough excuse any more...They absolutely will try to be "college kids" but they need to realize that they represent the university. I was in North Carolina when the whole Duke Lacrosse scandal went down and at that time anytime you mentioned duke for anything the conversation always turned to the lacrosse case. Sometimes it still does...

This thing is like watching a demolition derby, isn't it? Crashes all over the place, and you just can't look away.

I'm sure Jimbo is feeling like it's a dog-eat-dog world and he just got milk-bone underwear for his birthday.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

His behavior, the coaches and administration are starting to make Marcis Vick look like a choir boy.

We put the K in Kwality

Once they lose in the ACCCG to the Hokies and are knocked out of the playoff, it will be a non-story and people will stop talking about it alltogether.
