Charlie Weis will be the first head coach from a Power 5 conference to be fired this year. After going 1-17 in Big 12 play in his first two years at Kansas, the 58-year-old comes into this season already on thin ice. Won't help that his team lost its top two running backs to season-ending injuries or that word is he's falling asleep in team meetings.

Not too surprised by this move by Kansas. On the subject of Hot Seat- It appears that Brady Hoke britches are started to heat up. Think that Michigan would let Hoke go in the middle of the season?
It wouldn't surprise me, if they have indications they can get a suitable replacement

I've heard rumblings that they would go after Harbaugh, considering that he and the 49ers tried to negotiate an extension this offseason and failed, and that they would revisit it after this season.

No way Harbaugh goes to back to Big Blue. The media is gonna fall in love with that topic but Harbaugh is an NFL guy. SVP said it today and I totally agree. Multiple NFL scouts have sat in on Wolverines' practices and said there's no players there. Even if Harbaugh goes (which he won't), he wouldn't be there long. That's just who he is

Of course the guy wants to be the quarterback, and he's competitive so he's going to want to stay in. Hoke's basically saying, "sure he could have laid down if he didn't want it." Stupid comment and totally misses the point. No player wants to come out of the game, but it's the job of the head coach to act in his players' best interest. I'm disgusted. Even if Morris doesn't have a concussion (extremely unlikely, that kid took a shot), he clearly wasn't healthy enough to be in the game. If your third-stringer can't find his helmet, you call a timeout and let Gardner come back or you call an emergency, oh-sh*t play where you direct snap to the RB, if you're just going to hand it off, anyway.
Of course, ESPN isn't reporting any of this, they just say Morris was pulled in favor of Gardner after going 7-of-19. Also disgusting.
I actually just watched the game highlights on ESPN, and they made no mention of Morris at all.. not the play in question, not his stat line, nothing... it was like he didn't even play
Yeah, in the recap online it mentioned his stats, said he was pulled in favor of Gardner, and that Hoke stood behind the decision to start him. I don't expect ESPN to be the paragon of good reporting, but some mention of the fact that Morris got injured and was carted off the field was warranted here.
This is completely unacceptable. I cannot believe the training staff was not paying attention to see the guy struggling and pull him aside for a quick evaluation.
You won't hear me calling for a coach to be fired all too often, but that was nothing short of infuriating. Hoke should be cleaning out his office this afternoon, not game planning for Saturday. When you fail to get your wobbly QB checked out for a concussion, you're endangering his health and long-term well-being. 100% unacceptable for a coach on any level.

I want to say I've at least seen the training staff checking him out at various points. At the very least, he's never been stumbling around disoriented. The only thing he's said during interviews was that he has back spasms every once in a while. Not ideal, but not overly dangerous either.
I dunno about that. He was stumbling a bit after the one really hard hit against Ohio State. I was surprised to see him continue playing after that one.
IIRC, I'm pretty sure that was another issue with his back, not his head.
FWIW, Scott Van Pelt asked him what was going through his head after that hit. Brewer responded with a "Lol not too much." He got his bell rung. Was he as bad as the Mich QB? No. But is it possible he was at least just a little concussed? Yup.
I think if I recall correctly, that the Brewer play was on a 3rd down, and was heading off the field after the play... you'd have to think he was checked out while the D was on the field

Maybe poor wording on my part. My point was that he wasn't going to be taking another snap right away and the staff had time to evaluate him before sending him back out there. Not really the same situation as Michigan

Wouldn't this be more of an issue with Michigan's Ath. Dept.? Perhaps, I'm mistaking the protocol in the NFL, but isn't the eligibility of the player entirely up to the Dr. on the field?
P.S./EDIT: What do you think about the rule that players losing their helmet during a play need to be benched automatically? I still don't understand the origin of that rule. It seems like 95% of plays where a helmet is lost are incidental. If there's some sort of targeting or illegal hit causing his helmet to fly off, it will be fairly obvious if he's concussed or too injured to play. Seems like it only hurts the team who lost their player.
There's plenty of blame to go around, but the fact that Hoke didn't immediately have an assistant take his helmet and make him go see the medical staff is indefensible, in my view.
Re: P.S. - the rule came about to avoid injury. For a while, a lot of guys were losing their helmets because they weren't strapped on correctly. The NCAA instituted the rule to promote proper equipment use and safety. If a helmet comes off as a result of a penalty (facemask, targeting, etc) the player does not have to come out. Even if it's incidental, if a guy falls into a pile and loses his helmet, he could be quickly buried in a pile of guys and seriously hurt himself.
Yeah, I remember the year before the rule got added. Loose helmets all over the field.
I think the increased prevalence of dreads are causing a lot of helmets to come off.
I remember when they were uncommon...rare, really...and we had to put what amounted to a five gallon bucket on a kid's head just to get something on him.
All I could do was shake my head. Guy looked like some bobble headed doll. And yeah, he lost his helmet lots of times. But he was rockin' that look.
Bottom line...short of an incredibly egregious facemask, that helmet is not coming off if you have a 4 point snap, proper fit, and a reasonable haircut.
With the exception of Western Michigan. When their player lost his helmet, he continued to a) play in that down diving towards the pile, and b) didn't come off the field. I was amazed the ref's let that happen.
If a player loses his helmet but continues participating in the play, it's a 15-yard penalty on the helmetless player's team. I saw it called a couple weeks ago, though I forget which game. E.g. if a defender loses his helmet but keeps pursuing the ball carrier, it's a penalty on the defender.
That rule really makes no sense to me. I can understand replaying the down, same as if a naked guy runs on the field. Penalizing a player for churning through a play when he alone knowingly jeopardizes his own safety doesn't jibe with me philosophically. But hey, I've never played football at any highly competitive level. Perhaps that's one of those ol' gridiron, skull-cracking(literally) aspects of football that ought to go by the wayside.
And yet they didn't call it on WM when they were within the five yard line.
That was painful to watch. Can't imagine how many stars are dancing around in that kid's head. I also can't believe the first I'm hearing about this is on TKP (Actually, I can. TKP is awesome about keeping you in the know. Still, you would think that ESPN or someone would have said something. Oh, wait, that would require them actually reporting on some news in the sports world.). He should have been taken out for limping around that badly with the leg injury. Then to leave him in after that hit when he can't walk straight? Inexcusable.
The most infuriating part was when Gardner lost his helmet and had to sit out Hoke stopped the third string QB from going out and put Morris back in! For a fucking hand off! He was risking the kids health because the third stringer might screw that part up?

Not defending Hoke at all, but the stupid 3rd stringer couldn't find a helmet to use. Hoke should have told him to wear any d"mn helmet for one play, and get out there. Instead, Hoke refused to burn a time out, and put out a concussed Morris. An action that deserves costing Hoke his job, regardless of W-L record. Complete incompetence.
What's being ignored in this is that the 3rd string QB was going to go in, but WAS TOO STUPID TO EVEN HOLD HIS OWN HELMET. He couldn't find a helmet that fit, and couldn't go in, then Hoke refused to call a time out. So Hoke instead called Morris to stumble onto the field.
Hoke seriously needs to be fired for that action. I don't think that almost ever about any coach, but this old school BS about 'play through pain' only ruins the lives of the players, in the most literal sense. This idiocy has got to stop.
And the reserve QB who can't even find a helmet needs to be disallowed from dressing out for the rest of the season.

A friend showed my a video his son (senior at UMich) sent him from the game yesterday-most of the 100,000+ were chanting 'Fire Brady.' He's a UMich faithful and he's plenty peeved about the situation.
Well they might fire Hoke before Dave Brandon (the AD), but the Brandon is running the dept into the ground. It's a near conclusion that he'll be gone soon. I doubt the Michigan board would want to let him hire someone if he's going to be fired.

Speculation this morning that Harbaugh would leave SF for that job. Sounded like he SF GM and Harbaugh do not care for each other.
This sounds like a perfect fit all around. Harbaugh gets to leave SF, which, from all accounts, sounds like it's going to need to happen sooner or later, Harbaugh gets to go back to his alma mater, which is an absolute dumpster fire right now, Michigan gets a 'Michigan Man' (although if I remember correctly, Hoke is one, too), and Harbaugh vs. Meyer becomes a thing.

I was born at KU so I've always rooted for them after the Hokies. Firing Mark Mangino was the worst thing to ever happen to that program. He was a great coach and an offensive genius. Once he was gone you knew KU was going to revert to the old ways of losing to schools like Nebraska by the temperature at game time for 10 years in a row.

Is Weiss better than Loeffler? I don't feel any confidence in the OCs over the last 10 years, Stiney, play-calling from the qb coach and now Loeffler,,,i know he is a very popular guy but man, the play-calling is horrendous at times, sometimes even puzzling. We need to run these team over, hat-on-hat like we used to. The lineman are not athletic enough to move laterally or sometimes the play itself is asking too much from the linemen with shifting and so forth.
