The plan right now is to have Marshawn Williams, Trey Edmunds and J.C. Coleman as "featured guys," Loeffler said, with Joel Caleb mixing in...
Noooooooo!!!!! What does JCC do in practice that Caleb has not done?? From everything on the field Caleb looks to be the better back. I know I'm preaching to the choir on this site about it but they gameplan better not "feature" more than 5 carries by JCC and I think that's to much. Love the guy but just doesn't get it done on the field. I think Edmunds ability will make up for losing Shai. He maynot have the power that Shai has but he does have some power and he's pretty quick. I think Juice and Edmunds will be a good two-headed monster. If there is going to be a third it needs to be Caleb. Unless JCC gets motioned out wide to catch when he's in the game I really don't want to see him get in the game. We haven't seen him have a big game yet so why now?

pass protection. I agree that JCC hasn't been able to capitalize on his opportunities like Caleb has (albeit in slightly different circumstances); however, there is more to it. The coaches have to be able to trust Caleb during meaningful snaps to protect the QB. JCC has that trust (despite lesser running production) and from what i've heard, Caleb is still fighting to garner the same level of trust.
The good news is...our RB rotation this year has been a "the best laid plans of mice and men" type of thing so who really knows if JCC will get more snaps than Caleb.

FB is such a perfect position for Rogers.
We knew he was a hard worker when we learned of him and how he walked on successfully. That hard work has him on a piece of all the teams. The FB position for him allows so much flexibility to allow a utility player succeed.
This guy keeps impressing me. He's got another 2.5 years to grow along with this team.

I was very disappointed to read that JCC was going to be "feature" back. What are the coaches seeing that we as fans aren't? Hard work and spirit is not enough to justify putting him on the field in a running back situation. Not even as a distraction.

I'm definitely on board with the rest of you guys with being excited about Joel Caleb being a more important part of our offense. However, it really is a strange situation, he still looks like a receiver from a body standpoint. At this point, since we have not been having him practice as a full time wideout (it seems he does a little bit given that he has lined up as a receiver a few times) that he hasn't been developed as a true receiver, and he doesn't have the body of a workhorse runningback, that he is kind of stuck in this hybrid Percy Harvin type role. While the thought of a Percy Harvin type guy is exciting to me, and I think Joel has the athleticism to play that role to a degree, I just don't see him being utilized in that capacity.

Is it me or does Loeffler always look like he hasn't showered in two days and he is making it by drinking Red Bulls and eating beef jerky? Always looks disheveled, like he just finished an all nighter.

Considering he has a lot of film to watch, a game plan to come up with, and a ~4 week old baby at home to take care of, he probably isn't getting a lot of sleep.

Every time JCC touches the ball, its a wasted play. I'm sorry, I love the guy and love his heart, but man... He's just not getting it done out there. He has no size or strength, so his ability to break a tackle is non-existent, so he has to be run exclusively off tackle or on a sweep, which the defense knows will happen, which means every play he gets the ball has a significant chance of being broken up behind the LOS.

At this point, about the only good use I see of him is on a fake sweep where the ball fake is just really good, with a naked bootleg on the back side to hit a late releasing tight end.
That could be a great play, but is it worth 3-5 bad plays per game just for pulling that off once or twice a season?
Re the pass protection angle -- the ability to pick up blitzes.. Yeah, I get it. More time in the system = better ability to pick up a blitz.
But unless Caleb is completely incapable of learning and doing those responsibilities, I'm not sure JCC's better ability is worth much when the plays are so predictable with him in the game.

We absolutely CAN NOT turn the ball over. We need to jump out in front, and put them away early. I'll be very worried if they are able to keep the game close in the 4th quarter.

IMO being a featured back means having some plays schemed for you. I wouldn't say JC gets more than 5 carries, however he could see 5-8 touches on little dump offs/screen plays. IF UNC plays really physical/blitzes a screen to a tiny RB like JCC might work out well. As long as its a clear pass/able to be completed we should work it.

I may just entirely lose my sh!t if/when Sam Rogers throws a TD pass to Bucky "Rogers" Hodges.
and then vice versa from the wildcat the very next offensive series!
