I have tried to match it up and it seems to be behind by a little. I have it at1/4 play behind. I have not perfected the schematics of 100%accuracy but it's pretty damn close for me.

Virginia Tech is in desperate times right now and I feel like Frank's teams are usually able to answer the call. The offense and defense have to find some balance for the rest of the year; we've been putting young guys in tough situations all year long so if we throttle back our aggresive play calling on both sides of the ball, it should be theoretically less taxing for the team as a whole.
Does that make sense to anyone else? ie. Make these kids drink out of a firehose early and they'll be better for it for the rest of the season.
CAVEAT: I don't know shit about coaching or building a strategy for a football season.

When I lived in Philly the last few seasons I had a ritual of going on a run gameday morning and touching as many Hokie things as I could find(obviously it was somewhat of a challenge). Now I live in Roanoke so that's too easy but I'm gunna go touch the. HokieBird statue outside of the Roanoke Hotel (and last night I slapped the Hokie stone used inside the Taubmann Museum of Art, really cool)--that should do it.
Having grown up in North Carolina, I have a special desire to beat the snot out of the tarheels.
They are not a football school-they treat football like it's equivalent to a club sport.
They act like there is no better school in the state, and then they think about Duke and Wake Forest and then drop the subject.
They attract a fan base from the state, and across the country that just picked unc as their fave because of their pretty color and Michael Jordan.
They routinely pillage Eastern Virginia for athletes and then underdevelop and undereducate them. (Although, I'm still ok with them scooping Ronald Curry from uva....that was entertaining on many levels.)
They try and maintain a facade of 'excellence' while having behind the scenes panic over the discovery that they have manufactured courses/grades for their 'student athletes'-Not panic because of the embarrassment to their university, but that the scandal could extend to their treasured basketball program.

Mixture of good and bad so far on D. We're getting TONS of pressure, but the field becomes all jumbled up and they have a lot of fast guys. Nice to see Bonner lock down in a critical situation. Need to fix the blown assignments in the secondary. First play of that drive should have been a sack instead of +15 for UNC. Let's see if our O can respond and if the D can adjust a bit.

Our offense looked decent to start the game. It looks like all of the penalties have kind of slowed them down and made them hesitant.
We've also been getting away from power running formations, going out of the pistol in favor of shotgun, and have been trying screens and sweeps. We just need to get back to what was successful at the beginning rather than try to get smart and catch them off-guard.

I like the fact that we were aggressive there. With only 0:18 left in the half, if this was last year, we'd take a knee and go into the locker room. Even though we didn't get the FG, I love the mentality. Trust your guys to make plays. The drive looked pretty good aside from the penalty.

Guys, relax some. Take a breath. The playcalling has been boring and vanilla but it has been part of a good overall gameplan. We are playing VT football that everyone wanted 2 weeks ago. We are playing field position, strong defense and no huge mistakes. The penalties are hurting drives but we haven't turned the ball over or given them a real short field. They haven't moved the ball against us much and we are playing into that.
We can't have it both ways. We got aggressive against GT and it bit us in the ass. We are playing safe and winning by 3 TDs. I don't see the need to do anything drastically different.
I am not ecstatic about the play calls, but I am really frustrated by our OL play. Penalties, failure to pick up blitzes, and ineffective run blocking. I'd like to see more play-action, personally.
Everyone is frustrated by the OL play but Leoffler watched that same group move UNC backwards earlier in the game and protect the QB. If we can avoid the penalties, we will be ok. The playcalling has been questionable on some of the east and west plays but we have chewed up a lot of clock this game.
I agree with that, for sure. Just need to avoid mistakes. Field position has been our enemy so far, as well. Backed up a lot of the game, makes it hard to do much of anything.
It would be different if we were running over and over and not losing yardage every damn time. I get being conservative with a 21 point lead, but you don't keep pounding it when they're blowing up every run play. And now Juice is hurt. That strategy is working well.

After a very promising first quarter the offense really hasn't done much of anything. Without the solid play from the defense, this game would only be 10-3.
We definitely needs to be using the bye week to focus on whipping this offensive line into shape. They can't get a good enough push in the running game, and they keep making too many mental mistakes that result in penalties that stall our drives out. Give credit to Brewer: while he has missed a couple of open receivers, he has made smart decisions and has not turned the ball over. At this point, the offensive line is the thing that is holding this team back.

Kendall Fuller is a fantastic athlete and player, and a fantastic competitor. Shows respect towards the guy he was covering that got injured. Hokie through and through. Hope it's nothing serious for the young man.

Confused as to why the 2nd half was bad play calling when we just ran the ball. 21 pt lead with their offense doing nothing until that last pick. Don't see why we strayed from it if it would have automatically locked up the win.
I don't understand why they are content running out the clock when you have a plan that is working. Once you take your foot off the throttle, it's hard to get your offense moving again when the other team starts closing the gap. It has bitten us more than once in the past.

The combination of speed and height that Caleb and Edmunds have just seem to work well; I guess harder to bring down.
A long drive ending in points makes me happy. Good mixture of plays there and generally good execution. Still sweating a little more than I had hoped to be, but that drive was what we needed.
That was a SEVEN MINUTE drive. Holy crap that was huge, even if we didn't get in the end zone. Took half the clock and made it a three possession game. Huge possession after the pick by Brewer. Well done.

I'm have to say, the next-man-up mentality is both evident and impressive for the stable of running backs, and the o-line has been punching some damned-nice holes for all of our guys.... Feeling like a pretty good Saturday! Lefty's boys are doing well! Hoping the injuries to the other guys aren't bad...

Easily one of the worst defenses in the entire country. Assuming the current stats hold, we put up:
171 rushing (-19)
186 passing (-167)
345 total (-186)
34 pts (-10)
Keeping in mind that our defense is responsible for 14 of those points, UNC would have won had our defense not stepped up to the plate. Against this defense we put up our second worst offensive performance of the season (the worst being against Ohio State).
There is absolutely no excuse for a supposedly competent offense to be putting up numbers this poor against a defense this bad. We have got to figure out how to make this offense work, and we have to do it quickly. We can't rely on the defense giving us a touchdown or two per game.
O-line.
Penalties and missed blocks. Yeah, the backs missed some opportunities for short gains trying to find a better hole.

We jumped to an early lead then we played conservative. The OL didn't block too well but we sat on it and controlled the game. We had the ball for 40 minutes. 2/3 of the game we had the ball. We didn't score a lot of points but the offense did exactly what it needed to do. Had we not gotten a quick 14 points, I bet our approach would have been different.
DiNardo has done a good job at the whip position, always seems to come up with a good few plays when the 4th quarter comes arounnd

True. But take away the Brewer pick and our D gives up 7 in the 2nd half for 10 points total so it can work both ways. Think you're going to win most games holding your opponent to 10 points.

Going to finish with around 57 carries in this game for 3 YPC. Take away Brewer's sacks and kneel and it is 52 carries for 190 yards at 3.6 YPC.
Everyone wanted us to come out and run the ball, stop throwing it 40 times a game and today we did that. It wasn't always pretty and it wasn't exciting but we controlled that game from start to finish.

UNC's D played well from an aspect of yards allowed (especially when compared to their last 2 games)....but time of possession and winning the turnover battle are what got us this win. I think Beamer will be at least pleased about that. Honestly, as poor as our O-line played I'm surprised we held on to the ball that long. We gotta get healthy and coach these guys (O-Line) up! I hope for no more games on the ACC Network and next up Pitt and Miami on back to back Thursdays!

Thought both Joel Caleb and JC Coleman looked very good and poised when they came into the game today. Gotta say, never thought I 'd see Coleman score on a run up the middle. Not the prettiest game at times, but you know we'll take the DUB. Hated to see all the injuries tho. For a team that was as banged up at d line, thought we put tremendous pressure all day. If it weren't for Kendall's pic-6, Ekanem and Dadi should share the game ball. Whoever was blocking Ekanem today skipped lifting this week. Good win, hoping to see the Canes beat GT tonight to help clean up the coastal a lil bit
