Trey Edmunds has broken clavicle

Good news on Williams. Really bad news for Edmunds, who worked really hard to get back this season. Looks like we are down two running backs now. I'm jumping on the Joel Caleb band wagon right about now.

So a bunch of others drop F bomb, including Joe who gets a ton of up votes. Apparently you using it 3 times was bad and warranted a downvote.

Yeah, I know people are tired of hearing it, but this is just stupid. Upvote from me to balance stupidity of down vote.

Agreed.

This is a public forum.

For whoever is doing it, I say this: If you don't like the F-bomb, I can respect that. I'm not a big fan of it either, and I can admit I use it more than I'd like. Usually in high-stress, high-passion moments.

Moments like, and here's a clue for future reference: Game Threads, and threads that are obviously about bad news. If the F-bomb bothers you that much -- you might want to avoid the comments on those threads.

Now, if some individual just drops the f-bombs all the time everywhere, and otherwise is a general bad actor, well give 'em hell all you want. I'm A-Ok with that, because it can have the effect of just killing a thread's tenor. I'd just ask you do us all the courtesy to everyone know why your are down-voting them.

But I'd ask you to respect the community and allow people to blow off steam on game threads and on threads with bad news, and stop your silly down-voting of people who aren't breaking any of the community guidelines.

I personally don't care about getting down votes. What bothers me is when people don't read/respect the community guidelines, and down vote for opinions they simply disagree with. Going forward, those folks are going to lose their privilege to comment, post and vote.

I'm on board with that!

I'd only suggest letting them continue to comment. Maybe that will encourage them to learn to discuss an alternate viewpoint rather than just use down votes to convey disagreement.

You could set it up so that every downvote takes away one of your legs. That way, if someone isn't contributing and just DVs opinions they disagree with, eventually they will end up banning him/herself and the situation will fix itself.

Now, if its regulars, who already have thousands of TL's... well, thats different

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

id be willing to bet that regulars dont down vote anyways. no one who visits this site with any regularity in my opinion really feels that a downvote accomplishes anything and when they disagree or have something to say about the said comment that some would down vote regulars go ahead and respond in a comment of their own.

If there was ever a time to drop the F-Bomb, Trey's broken collarbone was definitely it. That kid has played his heart out and had just gotten back on the field after breaking his leg.

I bet Shane Beamer dropped an F-Bomb or two on Saturday.

Leonard. Duh.

I would respectfully counter with the following Guidelines:

Do not down vote for disagreeing with someone's opinion

However, please keep it respectful, well informed

I think downvoting a post that only has the F-bomb in it isn't disagreeing with an opinion but rather finding it unnecessary. I don't think recommending to the general TKP community to avoid threads because of that isn't helpful either.

Please realize everyone is different, and treat all posters with respect.

Just saying no reason to get too upset over a downvote on an obscenity. And no I wasn't the downvoter...

Let me start out that I could not give 1 shit about cussing, we're mostly adults here on a football forum and I was in the U.S. Gdamn Navy for 6 damn wonderful years. I can curse to make most grown men blush.

That having been said, I agree with the F-Bomb post above and I did not down vote but, I'd like to point out that, it would help those guys whom are going through a corporate network that selecting a different expletive would probably help keep them from getting onto HR watch lists. Especially in your sigline. It make would make that word show so often....

I don't know a single corporate network that would look for the word Damn.

The F-bomb? Every corporate network of a certain size will screen for that and others to detect possible cases of security breach, harassment, misuse of corporate resources and just to build a case against someone they are looking to fire.

Please, gentlemen, select a different word than the F-bomb especially in the same paragraph or sentence that contains the word suck or a$$. Also, try to avoid b1tch as well.

Gentlemen, damn, crap, shit all day long, stay away from the first 3 as much as possible, please.

edit: let me add this is not from TKP staff, it's from me.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I never really considered this. I might develop something in the offseason that'll automagically turn curses into other, more work appropriate, words for those who want to enable it.

Might I suggest dork magic, fully dipped, and #beachflow?

Example: How (dork magic)ing awful for Trey. I feel so (fully dipped) bad for the guy. He was JUST getting his (#beachflow)ing flow back.

General response:

It's a sports site.

It's not Bible study. It's not a parts supplier or a business partner or in any way business related, unless you are in the business of sports.

A sports site.

With sports commenters.

If you don't know you are in for at least the occasional F-bomb, shame on you.

If, knowing that, and knowing your business doesn't like you looking at sports sites on their dime, and that f-bombs are likely to raise alarms, whose fault is it if an f-bomb from a sports site gets you a talking to?

Don't blame passionate fans for the risks you choose to take with your job.

Response to Helo:

I don't think recommending to the general TKP community to avoid threads because of that is helpful either.

You don't think that is helpful? Because it sure seems helpful to me.

Problem: Certain language offends me when I visit a public sports board with no specific rules against profanity.

Solution: Avoid threads likely to have profanity.

Granted, I'm biased since I made that suggestion, but your counter seems to essentially be that asking anyone to adjust their own behavior to avoid the easily-avoided threads that may offend their sensibilities and/or their workplace cyber-monitors is just too much to ask. Instead lets sanction down votes on the people not breaking any rules and hope that we can make them change this behavior that bugs a few individuals.

Just saying no reason to get too upset over a downvote on an obscenity. And no I wasn't the downvoter...

I'm getting awfully tired of seeing reasoned arguments in favor of some position being called "getting too upset". Seriously, what is this phenomena in today's society where one cannot point out bad behavior and then explain one's own opinion on why that bad behavior ought to stop without being demeaned for taking that position? Make no mistake: Telling someone they have no reason to voice their opinion is not terribly respectful.

I can't help but laugh at the hypocrisy of being called "oversensitive" or words to that effect, when the instigation of the whole mess was someone being oversensitive to a triple f-bomb in response to an f-bomb. Nor does it escape my hypocrisy sensor to note that Joe didn't originally get a down vote -- the sensitive soul dispensing justice here for some reason didn't think it wise to do so. Perhaps they were concerned about retribution from someone who had the power to see who the down voter was?

If Joe puts "no profanity" in the rules, I'll gladly shut up about this, and take my down votes without a twitch. But until then, the down-voters are breaking the rules, and the fact they hide behind anonymous down votes instead of making an effort even as simple as Helo or Egbert just did to ask for less profanity indicates they don't wish to make a respectful appeal, they just wish to punish risk-free.

Yup, this is certainly not the ladies sewing circle book club for church marms 85 years or older, it's gonna happen.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Here here!!!!

I'll admit that I am an offender when it comes to language. I have a military background where 95% of the time if you weren't cursing it meant you weren't 110% serious about what was being said or the order being given. An F-bomb was often the exclamation point needed to get people to move their ass. Also, I absolutely despise any and all forms of censorship. I live in a country that guarantees my freedom of speech and I like to exercise it and all of my freedoms lest they be lost. Cursing helps me vent and express myself in the best way possible sometimes. Oftentimes, as in the case of Trey breaking his clavicle, I feel it is most definitely apropos and the best example of pure expression.

If my cursing offends you, I do apologize. I feel like people get too offended at things that mean nothing (me cursing), and don't get offended by other things that are much more egregious. It's like people get all up in arms just because they can, not because they should. So, I'm not going to curse AT you, unless you give me a really good reason, but I will curse nonetheless. That is unless Joe sees fit to change site policy.

Enough ranting, let's get healed up and coached up in this bye week and GO HOKIES!!!!

If you play it, they will win.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used." -The BoD

TKPers definitely shouldn't be surprised to see all types of language used on the boards. Thanks for quoting me too, had to fix that typo (ironically against the guidelines!). We're on the same page that it isn't against the rules, just was pointing out how some might not be a fan of a post only consisting of "F*ck". No big deal though.

I think the word has a time and place. I don't think any other word or words would have summarized my thoughts better. That's why I used it.

As the author of the community guidelines, I never meant them to instruct people to down vote for cursing. Habitually lacing together strings of profanity is something different, because affects the signal to noise ratio. Cursing at/about players, coaches or other posters is also a different story. "Please realize everyone is different, and treat all posters with respect," refers to the latter.

Like I originally said, down votes don't bother me.

And I know exactly who the down voters are, or in the case, the person who voted it down, then changed their vote, because the CMS logs all votes and retractions.

I don't have oversensitve eyes and can't stand the sight of 'bad word', just thought it was a little over the top response to someone who was using a "comment score" system to let you know that they didn't appreciate a post only consisting of the F-bomb. That's why I looked into the community guidelines and thought i'd see what they say in regards to the issue. I think you make a great point in that "Cursing at/about players, coaches or other posters is also a different story." I'm certainly not making the case that you shouldn't be able to use certain language and I agree that it isn't against the guidelines. You're very much in the right to do so and your reaction was spot on.

Oh and I downvoted Joe's comment (would've been the 2nd person) but then realized that isn't the purpose of the system and retracted it right afterwards and posted a comment instead. Downvoting your comment isn't the proper usage of the Leg system, just thought i'd explain why someone would do it after reading the discussion.

Leg for proper use of leg system.

my bad joe, didnt mean to cause an uproar. i was really really really frustrated for trey. didnt mean to offend anyone but we all come here because of our passion for vt and i was just as frustrated as everyone else. i wasnt talking down about anyone or any player. trey has been one of my favorite players the past two years and really wanted him to shine with shai out. im pretty sure i dropped some more f-bombs when marshawn went off too...along with every vt fan i was sitting with in the stadium.

Damn.

Oh boy. Well, we wanted a primary back. Guess that's absolutely JUICE now.

Let's Go...

Yeah, hopefully he that sprain isn't too bad. Great time for a bye week.

"I thought the kid right there you're talking to right there played his nuts off."

Wha??

How???

Was it injured on an earlier play, and just contorting like he did to get the edge cause it to break the rest of the way?

I'm just shocked.

Get healthy Trey. We need ya!

Thought the same thing on that play. For a second, it felt like the Bama run from last year but then I thought it was a hammy once he pulled up. Sucks to see that

"It might be dark outside, but it's LeDay in here." - Jay Bilas

Not likely Juice next week.

Not likely anyone next week.

Good point. :-)

Breaks my heart. Edmunds was clearly back in this game. I did not see where any one touched him--how could the break have occurred?

Speculation is that occurred on a previous play.

Yep, he must of not felt it until the middle of his run on the next play. Really sucks. Get well Trey.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I was trying to figure it out as well, and as best I can tell, it was a couple plays before where he ran his shoulder into someone in an awkward position. From adrenaline, he may not have felt it, or, it may have been hairline to begin with. A couple more hits and a lowering of endorphins in the system probably enabled him to feel it was a problem.

That's brutal. Get well soon man.

We've got one. 12 days to get the guys healthy.

Awful news. Get well, Trey.

"Exit light..."

Somebody put Trey on a calcium overload diet.

For sure. Don't they do bone density scans on these guys?

We were dropping like flies today, most weren't as serious but damn. Guess that's what happens when you play a bunch of young guys?

And Dadi always looks like he's about broken in half after every play

I'd like to know what is up with Dadi. He goes from flying around the field to flopping around on the ground like he has lost a limb.

The two most memorable times when I was worried about Dadi seemed to be shoulder related, possibly battling a stinger/pinched nerve deal. Shoulder injuries do tend to linger and reappear from time to time, even when of a lesser severity. I'm hoping it's nothing big that has potential to cause him to lose any significant time down the road.

This really sucks. It seemed like he was finally at full speed.

Really feel for him!

just...bizarre

get well soon, trey!

So currently, our 1-2 is J(C)C, assuming it takes Juice a few weeks to get healthy. That didn't look like a light sprain.

I mean, we are literally at our 4th & fifth string.

What are the odds of that?

This is why you can't have enough RBs.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Some of us have been wanting to see Caleb, hope he carries the load well.

True. May have to burn McMillian's redshirt at this point. Maybe something from DJ Reid?

But I've got a fever, and the only cure is...MORE CALEB.

"Exit light..."

He isn't a bruiser but I like him. He has been impressing me for sure.

I'd rather they give Caleb a shot before burning someone's redshirt.

Oh definitely. It was just amazing (in a bad way) to see how quickly our guys were going down today; we're probably only one more injury away from McMillian being a real possibility. I'm all for Caleb being the #2 against Pitt (assuming Juice can use the bye week to heal), and hopefully we can avoid any more problems.

"Exit light..."

With Juice, Caleb and Coleman I think we will be ok. Bring in DJ Reid or Dyer. Our offense just needs guys who can see and hit a hole. If the OL opens holes, any one of our backs can get 4-6 yards and that will put us in good situations.

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

Yeah, at the beginning of the year I thought the coaches were insane for suggesting McMillian would get playing time given all the backs in the system. Now it's not insane but just a bad idea.

I'd have to imagine this happened on the play before and he tried to play through it. I'm no doctor but I don't see how you break a clavicle without touching anything. Thankfully he didn't take a big hit after it broke.

"I thought the kid right there you're talking to right there played his nuts off."

anybody want to move Caleb to defense now?

We put the K in Kwality

Substitute "Trey" for "Caleb" and you have my thoughts from when McKenzie and Williams went down.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I'm kind of confused as to when Edmunds was injured. He didn't start holding his clavicle until the end of his run but after he broke free he looked way slow, to point where any casual watcher of the sport could tell he was hurt.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Probably on the previous play. May not have really felt it or it finally really popped on him when he was charging down the field.

"Exit light..."

Yeah he started feeling it when he tucked the ball in that arm and started churning his arms as he ran

Right now its looking like JC-Caleb-Rogers...????

He was probably watching what Bud was doing with the DEs and hopefully thought something like this...

I hate this for Trey. Such a great kid who has worked his tail off to get back. Get well big man, and take all the time you need in recovery. I'm now full riding the Caleb bandwagon if Marshawn can't go against Pitt.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Dang! The hits just keep coming. Wish Trey an early recovery . Next man must step up.

Just bizarre.
I guess it was hit/broke on the prior play and when Trey swung out and reached back a bit with his right arm on his long run, he felt it.
Here's to a speedy recovery. We're gonna need everyone we can get down the stretch.

So I was looking at our roster, and behind our non-injured RBs (Coleman and Caleb) we only have one RB left that has a jersey number. And that's Daniel Dyer.

I don't think the coaches will burn a redshirt to replace guys that are definitely coming back, but we're getting into the meaty part of our schedule.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I thought JCC actually looked pretty good today, as did Joel Caleb. We will be in dire need for a better feature back than JCC for Pitt if Juice can't go, though

Get well soon, Trey! It'll be interesting to see how they use Sam Rogers to counteract our now non-existent depth at RB.

Live for 32. Ut Prosim. Let's Go, Hokies.

I would run Sam Rogers left, middle and right. Coleman doesn't break tackles well enough, but Caleb could contribute. Unless a miracle happens and Marshawn is ready to go in two weeks, I would let Sam go BUCK WILD. He deserves the chance to be the feature back

"It might be dark outside, but it's LeDay in here." - Jay Bilas

Thank goodness for the bye, Beamer better get a witch doctor or something and work some magic on Juice's ankle. The prospect of JCC being an every down back behind this O-line which is not playing consistently well is not reassuring. As for Trey...there's nothing else to say but that just sucks ass! I wonder if he's played enough to still be eligible for a medical redshirt.

From hokiesports.com:

2014-15: Has played in all five games Saw limited action on offense and also contributed on 11 special teams plays in the opener against William & Mary Was in on offense at tailback and on special teams in the win at Ohio State Was in on special teams against East Carolina Ran the ball twice for 10 yards and also made two tackles while seeing action at tailback and on special teams against Georgia Tech Finished the Western Michigan game with 22 yards on three rushes, while also working on special teams.

So that first sentence tells us everything we need to know regarding a medical.

At least he made sure to get what he could and not risk contact. I'm sure as long as his legs were working he wanted nothing more than to keep going--that or fall down just as soon as he felt it--but got the most out of it while making a smart decision.

I noticed he looked slow, but was fully expecting him to juke or knock somebody over.

I felt like JC and JCC BOTH ran like they felt like they had something to prove .. which they did. I liked the running play calling generally much better and if Juice can return, I generally feel pretty good with Juice, Caleb, and JC .... in that order (as long as we mix in some power running with the zone runs). We're not running up against defensive juggernauts and should be able to run the ball with some authority. Believe it or not .. the best defensive team that we have left to play on the schedule .. in my opinion .. is UVA. I know -- gasp

Here's wishing all these guys quick and complete recoveries. Now, what's the word on DJ Reid? Any talk about where he stands as far as progress and potential?

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. " Rocky B.

This sucks for him. Best of luck in recovery. What does it take to get a medical redshirt?

JC has experience, Caleb has talent but needs experience, and Sam Rogers is a thing. Deon Newsome exists and he's gotten the ball behind the line before. It isn't like he's getting a lot of playing time at WR.

Trey is double ineligible for a medical redshirt. He redshirted his first year and he has played in too many games this year to have been eligible for one if he hadn't previously redshirted. To get another year of eligibility he would pretty much have to miss at least another whole year and recieve a medical hardship waiver, which requires missing most of two seasons. MHWs aren't handed out by the NCAA very often, the only examples that I can name off the top of my head are David Wang and Stephen Sene (Offensive Tackle at Liberty that was across the hall from me my first year there, who had played in a few games at USCe and gotten injured, then transfered to a junior college before coming to Liberty).

Double ineligible....You would think the only players "Double Ineligible" would be Jameis Winston and some of the UNC academic scandal players.

Kind of like Double Secret Probation....

I wonder if it's just a crack or like a complete seperation of the bone. Get well soon, to all our RB's and D personnel that are injured. Man injuries are crushing us this year. Silver lining though it's getting other guys a chance to get experience and they've played well so far when needed.
