On the positive side...

Yes the OL is still is, and I'm being nice here, not good. The injuries to Marshawn and Edmunds stink as well. But let's look at the positives. UNC was leading the ACC in scoring coming into the game averaging 40 points a game. We were missing our best DT, his backup, and our starting corner and held them to 17 points and only gave up 323 yards as well. That is amazing if you ask me, how Bud does it I don't know but he somehow does. And not too mention a 5 star DE recruit down to UNC and VT got too see all of this in person especially Dadi and Ekanem wrecking havoc all day. I'm really proud of how the defense played today, angry and with a purpose. Also, IMO there is not more doubting who the best DB in the country is. Kendall balled out of control today. Brewer, other than his interception played well and made smart decisions. The TD to Bucky was a thing of beauty. Also, how about the throw to Ford that kinda reminded me of Tyrod to David Wilson in the 2010 Orange Bowl.

We are a young team with a hopeful bright future, yes mistakes will happen but today was a good win. Any day we kick UNC's butt in their own house is a good day.

I'm not convinced that INT wasn't on Cam, btw. It really looked like Brewer thought he was gonna come back and Cam just kinda sat down. Happily, we won and no harm done. Learning moment for all.

There was double coverage on that INT though. Willie was wide open in the flat.

I haven't gone back and looked at it again, but it looked a lot like the same mistake on basically the same play into basically the same coverage as the late one against GT to me. IIRC, the only difference was he was outside the pocket today and had the play in front of him.

It's another headscratcher because otherwise IMO Brewer did pretty much exactly what was needed today - no more, no less.

It was his one egregiously bad decision today.

The upside to that is that it was his ONE egregiously bad decision today.

Baby steps.

And he waited until the 4th quarter.

I'd rather he got it over with in the 1st quarter.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

looked like the EXACT same play and the EXACT same result. the corner on the underneath man bailed on it and droped right into the thowing lane on the over top out and brewer didnt see him. if he throws to the short man its an easy 5 yrd gain and we play another play. in both cases brewer tried to push to the down field man instead of taking he easy underneath. he doesnt seem to hit his check downs often and when he gets preasure and people in his face seems to forget about his TEs and backs. although on a # of times saturday he atleast lofted the ball to the sideline where only a hokie could get it unlike in other games where he would force it in tight holes that werent there. ill say i see progress. and hope that he learns from the pick in this game as well.

Yes, this was a good win. The sobering part is the injuries. I'm hoping that the bye week can at least cure Marshawn aka Lil Beast Mode.

Awww, shucks. Alabama lost.

Oregon, Alabama,Oklahoma, FSU you are next. Great win ,domination by both O&D. , a complete game.

Oklahoma? Well that didn't take long

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

How many want to place bets that voters try to put Auburn at No.1 instead of FSU?

Definitely. No doubt about that.

or the fact that CBS showed Bama was #1 all damn day long... Silly SECBS the coaches poll is as useful as monopoly $..

I saw this too and was confused for a second. Were they using the coaches poll or their own manufactured rankings?

coaches poll.. SECBS always uses coaches poll.

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

Bet you they use the AP Poll for their 3:30 game (Auburn at Miss St). 2 vs. 3 is going to look at lot better than 2 vs. 6.

Georgia at Missouri at noon is 13 vs. 23 via AP, but 10 vs. 24 in the coaches. I think they'll go coaches there to have a top ten team.

It wasn't just Bud. (Though it was a LOT Bud.) But the offense freaking decimated UNC on time of possession. It was not always firing on all cylinders, but that seven minute field goal drive in the fourth quarter was the second best drive of the season behind the winning drive in the Horseshoe.

Lefty's offense, when he gets it fully implemented and using his players, will be the perfect complement to the Lunch Pail.

Agreed.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

that 4th quarter drive was so clutch. not quite OSU game clutch, but considering we were down to our 4th and 5th running backs, we were able to protect Brewer, didnt have any penalties (i believe?) and run blocked like we hadnt since the 1st quarter. kudos to JC for proving lots of the haters wrong with a few good runs to seal the deal.

The haters?

Really?

Who were the haters? I don't recall reading any, much less enough to qualify for the description "lots" of them.

Or by "haters" do you mean the ones who rightly said he shouldn't be starting ahead of Juice, Shai or Trey? The ones who constantly said they loved JCC's spirit and what he brings to the team, and wished his on-field performance matched what was in his heart?

So tired of this throw-away description of all the fans that dared say something not completely clouded by maroon-colored shades.

Let's try to be a little less dismissive of people with different opinions. Throwing around blanket terms like "haters", or posting things like "for everyone who thought X should move to Y position, what do you think now" as if an entirely unpredictable series of events was entirely predictable (seriously -- who would bet any team would lose its top 3 backs in 2 weeks?).

I can't think of anyone posting here that doesn't want what's best for these kids first, and the W-L column second.

Sometimes that means they'd do better for themselves and the team in a different position. Say, moving Teller from D to O-line. Or moving Bucky from QB to TE. These things do happen, so it's not hating to entertain the idea it might be good for other players.

And sometimes it means demoting a guy from 1st team to 3rd team if he's not cutting it, because what's good for him doesn't trump what's good for the 2 or 3 players at the same position who are better than him. It's not hate that leads fans to suggest that demotion.

So hows about we all just give the "haters" accusation, and the petty little barbs that pure happenstance allows us to deploy, just a bit of a rest?

i didnt really mean it in that strict of a sense....used it more in the sense of i was happy for a guy i think the majority of the fanbase has rooted for and loved he was the one to ice the game for us. sorry for inspiring a rant, although i actually agree with you

TL for the clarification.

Agree, we are all happy for his success this game, and I was sure to put that in the game thread. I truly hope the switch comes on for him now that we really need it to.

The Hodges move looks great but I'm not so convinced about Teller. If and thats a big if, Grimes really recruited some talent last year the OL had a short term need that Teller has not answered. Since BF can't seem to close on a top notch DT (and when he does we shift him to OT) we are really thin. It must be infinitely easier to play DT because Williams, Baron, Maddy, came from nowhere to play as FR and Marshall, Graves and Jim Davis had to move from DE to DT to shore things up.

Don't want to derail this thread, but I'd say Teller has shown lots of ability. He's shown not only good push, but also the he is picking up the finer points of zone blocking.

Does he make mistakes? Sure. But he's also getting valuable reps and the opportunity to learn from those mistakes.

Yesterday he made a poor decision and got a holding penalty -- it could be partially chalked up almost as instinct though, since as I recall, he was falling backwards and grabbed the guy over him. He had a false start penalty or two. So did Wang, the veteran with the most starts.

But by and large, he's been looking more and more like a real stud on the OL, IMO.

And if my opinion doesn't matter, let's see what French comes up with on the next film breakdown, and carry on this discussion there.

IIRC a lot of people said his move to OL was for the better not only because of his upside there but his general ferocity while playing.

I can guarantee you that French would laugh at the thought of him moving back to the DL. I've never seen him so excited when he moved to the OL last year.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

"Exit light..."

The guy is only a r-freshman. For the most part, all o-lineman take at least three years to fully develop in college. I think it is a great move and we may end up seeing him out at tackle next year.

I like krak_t response! but what part of JCC play today gave you the warm and fuzzies? In my mind Joel is before JCC. JCC is still at the bottom. There was one play early he had a chance to break it. But alas the ground tackled him.

I love JCC, good kid, but by no means is he a great back at this level.

He ran well. Yes there were holes, but he hit them and fell forward when tackled.

And he is better in pass protection than Caleb. Yes, Caleb picked up one blitzer that I recall -- but just barely. Caleb will get better with reps, no doubt.

And yes, I think Caleb has shown more upside than JCC.

The good news is we likely will finally get to see him get enough carries to prove it.

Can't even give a guy kudos when he plays well? JCC ran as well as we've ever seen him today. A lot more of hitting the hole rather than the dancing that we've usually seen from him.

That being said I don't think he's a starter by any means, but he played well in garbage time today to put it away.

His (JCC) speed is very valuable and he hits the hole faster than anybody. He's just not big enough to move piles or break tackles and needs to keep his feet better on open field runs. His size is also an advantage as defenders can't see him so if the OL does their job, JCC can get to the next gear fast and make a big play. I have faith in him and Caleb going forward.

I must be watching a different player than you, but I don't see this speed you're referring to, and I see his size as a definite disadvantage. He really can't break any tackles.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

That catch for a first down early on (I think that was Cam). Not only can I not believe it happened, but I can't believe the refs actually called it.

Agree , I don't think anyone on this site "hates" anyone on this team. Criticism is not hatred.

The one thing I took from this game: we STILL have an elite defense. We shut them down.

Guys our top was awesome today! We are getting back to that "we will stand there and punch you in the mouth" attitude that we have been missing! It doesn't always end in a big td but it a demoralizing mentality. Believe in it.

At least our first five offensive plays were the same: Give the ball to Marshawn and let him pound it.

Can we just talk about Carden from ECU for a minute? 31-41, 400+ yds, 4 TDs. Obviously I'm no Pirates fan or anything, but I hope he not only gets a shot at the Heisman, but also in the pros. Dude is money every week. AND we held them to 28. Feud for thought

I thought ECU was going to win by 70 going into the game. Guess they overlooked them a bit, but not Carden. Dude is a baller.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Yeah I thought they were gonna dump all over SMU but it was actually close for a little while in the 2nd half

Feud for thought?

I prefer Freud for thought

after watching the game, it was clear Joel Caleb is the better RB than JC. jc is missing something for a third year player. Joel had some great block, cuts , break tackles at the end of the game, with shai and trey out, Joel is number 2 running back,
