...That the teams we lost to are now currently ranked #19 and #22 in the country? Or that we beat the #15 in the country on the road? Or that UVA's losses came to the #17 team and an unranked team (and their "big win" which they stormed the field for is against a team that's currently unranked).
Thoughts?

I swear to god if we do nothing else this season we had better beat LOLUVA
With that said, no not really
says every Hokie...every year
Getting insight from ephemeral rankings that will be dramatically different every week is probably foolish. But, it's cool to see that VT is essentially T25 material.
Eh...we know the rankings are going to take another major overhaul by the end of the season, since #2, both #3s, #7, and #14 are in the same division and will be playing each other.
Also, UVA received a vote, and we received none. We have at least beaten a team in those rankings.
No. What makes it better to me is that slowly but surely our offense is beginning to resemble something other than a dog trying to fuck a watermelon.
those watermelons will get after ya!
So will those dogs.

I hope one day to be that happy
I would be scared seeing a horse do that...
I'd immediately look around to see if Stephen King was shooting a movie.
i actually just had this happen to me last week-- but with a pumpkin instead of a watermelon. and instead of my face, it got hurled towards my nether regions.
luckily it hit just south of my manhood.
oh, and it happened in front of all of my co-workers. (i'm currently on an engineering co-op)
0/10 would not recommend.
FYI-Your co-workers put the video on youtube...you shouldn't have been doing that.
Yeah, dogs and watermelons don't go well together...
I call it, "The Stinescreen."
i thought this at first, but then it killed me that we could've closed the GT game and possibly been ranked this week.
ECU i can stomach.
I feel the same way. It's going to kill me even more if that horrible of a GT wins the coastal due to a tie-breaker with us. Makes me hate PJ even more.
If we could've closed the GT AND the ECU game, the Hokies would be ranked in the top 10 definitely, top five probably/possibly.
FIFY
speaking of the "others receiving votes" category. ...how the hell is North Dakota State receiving any votes?! Aren't they an FCS team?
NDSU has been eating FBS teams for lunch the past few years.
FCS teams are eligible for votes.
Yep, JMU was almost ranked in 2010.
GO AWAY
I imagine this being me if I ever said that out loud.

Cool, maybe we should have scheduled them that year instead of taking a bye after Boise.
Yep, that's why UVA is eligible to get votes this week.
Rankings are just a number of preference of a pool of people. Every one knows that anything can happen on any given day in sports- but to your point: yes, I think the rankings help justify the reason we lost to ECU and GT.
Not picking on you, but this sounds like something that Larry Fedora would say after UNC dropped out of the rankings.
For the first season in a long time, maybe ever, I'm not caught up at all in the top 25 (as is pertains to VT). I'm worried only about our loss to GT and what that will mean moving forward in the Coastal. I'm not thinking about climbing the rankings. I'm not thinking about the playoff, even though EVERYONE appears to be pretty similar this year.
I want the rivalries to fall our way. Miami. LOLUVA. Pitt. BC. These games matter a lot to me now. None of them look to be pushovers at our current skill level and all of them will test us in different ways.
But to answer your question, I like that we've beaten #15, and if GT wins another game or two they should take a jump. Not that they're good, but their record would be good.
"For the first season in a long time, maybe ever, I'm not caught up at all in the top 25"
Same here.
I have seen this entire season as a "work in progress" toward big things later - like a giant preseason. We are starting a QB that likely can't find his way around Blacksburg yet, and just a shocking amount of freshman, and I am ecstatic with what I'm seeing so far.
And we beat anOSU at the shoe, and, well...

"You Can't Take that Away from Me"
Swofford would be so proud of you referring to BC as one of our rivals.
The second any regular opponent beats us once in a series, they are rival to me. I want to crush them again and again after that so they never think about trying to beat us again.
Ugh. Unfortunately, I have no choice. We play them every year. They're as much a rival as ECU.
And now I've succumbed to both Swofford and Weaver
so continuing to put ECU and BC on the schedule has beaten the horse dead?
In the proverbial sense, I guess so. The spirit is unwilling but the flesh is weak.
I get that we're Hokie fans and try to find any way we can to trash talk UVA, but we are going to be in for a rude awakening on Black Friday if we take them lightly. BYU is only unranked because their star QB, Taysom Hill, broke his leg in the 2nd quarter of their game on Friday night. UVA's defense is legit this year.
Not really because we need GT to lose to achieve our goal of making the ACCCG. That will drop them.
ECU is less bad, but I just have a feeling that they are going to drop at least one game to an AAC team which will torpedo them out of the rankings, too.
I think all this exercise does is show how silly rankings before week 7-8 are...
I'm hopeful that there are no unbeaten teams this year, and just a handful of one-loss teams. Lets make that selection committee do some work! Plus, if we are able to finish off the rest of our opponents, win an ACCCG, I think we look as good as any other 2-loss school. In other words, I want more poll chaos like last Saturday.
Undefeated teams right now:
2 ACC (FSU, GT)
2 Big 12 (Baylor, TCU)
0 Big 10
1 Pac-12 (Arizona)
3 SEC (Auburn and the Mississippis)
plus Notre Dame
9 total.
We're guaranteed that 4 of those teams will drop out by bowl season, since it's impossible for more than one team from any given conference to finish undefeated.
Heck, we know that two of them won't make it to Sunday (Auburn/Miss St and TCU/Baylor).
Then, Notre Dame plays FSU later this month.
It might not be 2007, but we are one exciting weekend away from total chaos!
If last weekend was not total chaos, I don't know what is. #2,3,4,6,8,14,15,16,17,18, and 19 all lost. That's 11/25, 5 of which were to unranked teams. To me, that's chaos. Never before have 5 of the top 8 lost in the same weekend.
I would bet on us seeing at least 7, if not, 8 of those teams fall by the end of the year. Should be a fun year.
3 Bama lost to 11th Ole Miss---> only fell to 7 lol biggest joke ever
6 Texas A&m lost to 12 Mss ST---> fell to 14 that's 9 spots that seems fair.. jk jk
The biggest issue I have here when SEC teams schedule FCS level/talent teams weeks 1-3 of course you're going to have 7-8 teams in top 20. That's a no brainer, then when they hit their SEC schedule its a bunch of top match ups because those teams have played no one. Then throughout the year it makes 100% sense that you will have 2-3 SEC teams only lose 1 game and we should have 3 SEC teams in the playoffs because #SECbias/choking on the SEC D
Bama schedule- WVU, FAU, Southern Miss UF and now Ole Miss
Texas A&M schedule- South Car, Lamar, Rice, SMU, Arkansas, Mss St
When Bama lost its because ohh Ole Miss is an upcoming team not because Bama didn't play well and were lucky it was that close. How the F does that make sense Bama drops 4 spots and has played 4 easy teams Meanwhile A&M has at least played a tougher schedule but gets crucified by dropping 9 spots?
IMO I'd have A&M at 4 and Bama at 14 due to the schedules and way the scores have been. Bama looks beatable and I see them losing another 2 games. Does anyone else understand how you can have Bama at 4 and A&M at 14??
Looking over the SEC schedule, and it's not quite set up that way during the early part of the season. It's not much different than any other conference.
In week 1, there were three SEC teams in "kickoff classics", two conference games, and then Georgia/Clemson.
Compared to the ACC, where we had one "kickoff classic", one conference game, two power 5 games, and the rest were FCS or really low level "Group of 5".
In fact, the SEC has actually already played a bunch of conference games already. USCe is 2-3 in conference, and Vandy is already 0-4.
The problem I have with SEC scheduling is when they put in an FCS or Sun Belt team in November. Alabama plays Western Carolina on November 22, between Miss St and Auburn. I'm pretty sure there was a year where Alabama would have a bye on one side of the LSU game, and a FCS/SB game on the other side.
I know that if we don't want to see all cupcakes in September then some of those lopsided games have to slide elsewhere in the season...but there is no reason to be playing FCS teams in late November.
It was all part of VT's plan. Don't be ranked this past Saturday so there was no chance of being upset like almost half of the ranked teams.
Seriously though, the ECU game I can live with. The GT game to me was an unacceptable loss. We HAD that game won, and then our team just straight up choked.
