4* 2015 power forward Kerry Blackshear commits to Virginia Tech.

Huge pickup. Seems like Buzz and co. are heating up on the recruiting trail.

Wait..where on the field does the "power forward" play?

I believe you mean QB.

Great pickup! According to 247 he was between us and vandy. Vandy is one of the top SEC teams so this is huge. Just like his 6'8" frame. Excited to see what rob says about him

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

Sick. Just saw this from Hokies Journal. Buzz is the man with a plan

great start to the 2015 recruiting class. hopefully Kerry can play both basketball and football since he would make a great OL and power forward.

We DESPERATELY need Bigs. Only gonna have 3 or 4 eligible this year (if I'm not mistaken), of which only 2 have played major minutes. Huge pickup for Buzz, in more ways than one.

Man, this is wonderful news. A commitment for our biggest need, way to go Buzz!

That's a great pickup for us. Blackshear looks like he's a Top 100-ish guy, and rates out to 4-star in multiple rankings. This gives us a muscular 4/5 guy to add to the fold. It will be interesting to watch Blackshear's status prior to his arrival.

Again, great job by Buzz's staff in pulling him from among a solid list of schools chasing him! SMU, Arkansas, Clemson, Boston College, etc. Those are all Power 5 schools with above average or better programs. Nice to see us back competing with schools of our own level or better(for now!).

Anybody have any idea how many other scholarships we have to offer for 2015?

how many we are offering, or how many we have available based on current estimations of next years roster? the answer to the first is "as many as Buzz feels he needs to extend to get the team he wants". the answer to the second is "one" more. there will be more attrition after this season.

How's he look at DT? RB?

I feel bad asking, but damn our luck.

If you play it, they will win.

6'8" RB would lose some leverage but would be good for going over the top at the goal line

Just have Bucky run a drag route and have Blackshear hand it to Bucky over everyone's heads.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Can't wait for basketball season!

Right now we only have one more scholarship for 2015, then 4 to give for 2016.

Thanks.

so can buzz help out with football recruiting too orrrrrrr

Every second counts

In the limited film I can find so far on Blackshear, it appears he has good body control and the ability to create a shot in the post. He is excellent at protecting the ball while in the act of shooting, which also is apparent in the number of times he went to the free throw line last season compared to the rest of his league. The defensive end is lacking in the film I am able to find so I dont feel comfortable commenting on where he stands at this point defensively. He does appear to be able to move side to side well and use his length to alter shooting lanes and the ability of opponnents to drive the ball. He was Class 8A Second Team All State his Junior year. As for his team, After going 24-8 on the season, Evans lost the 2014 8A State Title game 64-62 in Overtime, they were also runner-up in the 2013 7A State Title game as well.

This commitment will use 1 of 2 that we currently have available, but that could change if any more players leave the program after their initial season under Buzz this year. Also keep in mind that we have two transfers that dont become eligible until next season, which plays a part.

Thanks for that info on Blackshear. Do you have a prediction on how we will use that last scholarship?

3 star point guard Justin Robinson is announcing this weekend so that could be it. His final four is VT, Maryland, UNLV and Providence.

VT '15

Robinson is exactly who I think Buzz has in mind for the "one" thats currently left. The staff has spent an inordinate amount of time on his recruitment. I have seen no less than seven visits between AAU and school for Robinson from our coaching staff this year. I anticipate we will probably have a couple more after the season so we will see what happens there. If there are more I would expect to see Buzz focus on bringing in a couple more big bodies. Deshawn Freeman from the JUCO route is one he is working hard to bring in.

Obviously the next big fish after Robinson is Clarke, but I think that Buzz will continue to go hard after guys like Freeman and CJ Williamson who is scheduled to take an OV in a couple weeks I believe.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Would love to see if his film lent itself to TE. If he was playing DE in HS at 6'8", and can play power forward well.... u never know.... sounds like he could be athletically able to handle TE... even just if for multiple TE packages where he goes up for jump balls.

The overnight change we've seen in the basketball program from a perception standpoint from recruits since March has been absolutely unbelievable. Its not easy to turn a basketball program around overnight when you were in the kind of doldrums we were in, but damned if Buzz isn't working his ass off to do just that. Yes, its impressive that we're getting good quality players in here, but whats absolutely impressing the hell out of me is that we're bringing in good quality players at positions of need. Its difficult to look at the talent we're stockpiling right now and seeing legitimate talent evenly distributed among the team and not wonder just how freakin good this program is going to be 2 seasons from now, and the best part is that I have no doubts we'll continue to recruit at this very high level to ensure we don't see the year to year dropoffs we're used to.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

This gets me so excited to watch how this team performs. Buzz bringing in 4* guys already means the program has a bright future.

So his 5th year of eligibility will be at TE?

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Justin Robinson recruiting appears to be down to Providence and VT according to several sources. He will announce Saturday.
