OT: Crazy Bama Fan Goes Nuts on Finebaum Show

We all know that Bama has some crazy backwoods fans that Roll Tide this, and Roll Tide that. Well Paul Finebaum was victim yesterday on his show to one of the best/worst call in's from an irate, uber-defensive Bama fan.

Ladies and Gentleman, I'd like to introduce to you Phyllis from Mulga, AL.

This is sure to give you a much needed laugh on a bye-week Tuesday morning.

I mean, if it was colin cowherd at least we could say that calling him cow turd was clever. Alas, this is Bama, not VT, so clever doesn't enter the picture. I think her options were crazy rant or this:

Do you hear me Cow Turd!?!

If I had a dime for every time I heard someone say that....

I'm pretty sure she calls in a lot, or at least the times when I listen to his show. She used to love him, haha.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

yeah, she's a regular caller

"We were at the pinnacle, and we did it for years," Foster says. He pauses, nods, takes a deep breath. "And I did it with the best guy in the business."

I'm pretty sure she called into Finebaum's show to address comments made by Colin Cowherd earlier in the day. Cowherd stated that Gus Malzahn is ending the Nick Saban/Bama dynasty. He said that all dynasties come to an end and often it is when there is new and smarter coaching in the conference. He compared the situation to Jim Harbaugh ending the Pete Carroll dynasty at USC.

Go Hokies!

It was indeed a call to Finebaum, whom she adores, about his appearance on Cowherd's show. So the subject was comments by Cowherd. She hates Cowherd, and has made about 2-3 well publicized calls similar to this about Cowherd in the last year. Cowherd loved gigging the Bammer fanatics (and those of other schools, too), so he makes sure to say something extra when he knows it will be pounced upon by the Phyllis-type callers of the world.

I've not listened to Finebaum's show, because I detest him, but aren't most of his callers like this? I mean, he enables them to just rant incoherently, while in their minds they are celebrities because all the boys down at the general store heard them on the radio. Every clip I hear on ESPN is either Finebaum slamming somebody who's dared to question Alabammer, or his fans doing the same thing between themselves. Pretty sad existence...

Makes sense- when I first listened to it, I thought it was a call to Cowherd, but Finebaum was pictured.

Remember the caller from the Auburn/Bama tree scandal? I can't even- these people are crazy.

I've listened to it once or twice, and for the most part on the days I listened, it was fans of an SEC school asking Paul benign questions about their team in as many words as possible.

"Hey Pawl. We all know that Tennessee is young this year and that that's affectin' their run game. As you saw on Saturdee, we cain't run the ball. I mean, just look at our o-line: we got freshmen all over the place. Do you think we ain't winning because we're young? If you'd ask me, that's why I'd say we're not winning. We need a couple of years to develop, keep bringing in them big recruiting classes, but we need some time to develop. I think we'll be back at the top if we can do that." et cetera.

After about 3 callers I have to go find something else.

That must be the easiest job in the world - I mean the crazies do all of his work for him.

It was a catch

Crazy Bama fans are crazy

good job.

Does anyone remember when Beamer berated some kid after I believe the Miami win in 2009? He tried to interrupt Beamer's post-game interview on the field to which Beamer began yelling at him like the kid was a toddler and he was his father, or better yet like he was a dog and Beamer was the owner, saying "No! No!" I believe an officer then grabbed the kid by the bag on his back and threw him to the ground.

An officer threw a kid to the ground like that after Miami in 2011, but I thought the kid ran off after that. Didn't see the postgame interview to know if he came back and did anything else, but the officer toss of that kid is one of my favorite moments from that YouTube video, and perhaps even the game (which was epic in its own right).

"Exit light..."

For some reason I thought it was after the 2009 rain game when the fans rushed the field, but I could be mistaken.

You're talking about this kid, right?

"Exit light..."

Yes, that was the kid that got thrown down, though I must be mixing up games. In 2009, Beamer yelled at a kid and I can't remember if it was after Nebraska or Miami now. I just know it was a game the team rushed the field.

I remember it happening and remember seeing the video but cannot remember what game that was...

I tried to search for the 2009 Miami and Nebraska game post-game stuff, but nothing showed the on-field interviews.

Found it! Its right around the 9:05 mark. I knew what you were talking about was after Nebraska in 2009 but I wanted to find a video of it:

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

Thank you! Beamer treating the kid like he's a dog that just peed on the carpet.

Yeah that had to be so awkward for the reporter. I think the kid yelled "Fire Stinespring" and Beamer just let him have it

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

I think Beamer finally spoke up and scolded them because they were being a bit too physical around Holly Rowe and she was starting to get jostled. Ever the gentlemen.

"Nope, launch him into the sun and fart on him on the way up"
-gobble gobble chumps

"11-0, bro"
-Hunter Carpenter (probably)

The students rushing the field in this game falls under the "act like you've been there before" section... I know it was a big win on an unbelievable play, but maybe that's why Beamer was yelling...

Finebaum is the Jerry Springer of sports radio.

On the other end of the spectrum, Sirius XM does a program called College Football Playbook or some such generic nonsense, which is absolutely first rate. Jack Arute is the host, and I could listen to that man talk college ball for eight hours. Just the right blend of analysis and anecdote. He also detests Finebaum.

The Playbook is awesome, especially when Neuheisel is on.

I'll have to check this out - I usually listen to SVP and Rusillo on my lunch break, but this I will try for a while. Thanks for the recommendation!

When people ask why I dislike Alabama, Ill have them listen to this. Im way too passionate about sports for my own good, but the stupidity of many "rammer jammers" is just too crazy to believe

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

These are also the fans who, when the wheels fall off and Alabama returns to earth, will by and large burn their Alabama gear and actively and passionately hate the team. They're the worst of the bandwagon fans, the ones who scream the loudest whether it's to support or berate "their" team.

I wonder what percentage of Bama fans have a degree from the university, or have ever even been enrolled for a semester.

That's way too ambitious for Bama fans. You should be looking for high school diplomas.

And this is why I decided to be an Auburn fan when I moved to Alabama.

I might have to listen to Cowherd today, because he usually feasts on meltdowns like this

We might have our own Bama Sucks Cowherd tirade by the end of the day that rivals the UVa one

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Troll tide?

She's apparently a regular

From after the Bama-Allbarn game last year

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

They must allow her calls to come through because she's the most irrational. Gareeb, from the UVA Rant, was the most irrational, which is why Cowherd allowed him to get through.

The dynasty has just begun?

Does Phyllis know Harvey Updike? Are they related?

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Are they related?

It's Alabama. They are like the West Virginia of the South. Of course they are related somehow.

Well played, sir. Leg!

I imagine this lady has cats running around everywhere named after famous Bama players and coaches. She probably has her eldest cat "Bear Bryant" stuffed and on the mantle wearing a mini houndstooth hat with holes cut out for the ears and whistle around it's neck.

Holy crap, that's a woman? I didn't realize that until the picture came up.

Rip his freaking head off!

Maybe I'm just an idiot, but I thought Finebaum was like the biggest Bama fan there was. I never listen to his show so I have no idea what he said about Saban or Alabama

Unlike many people here, I typically enjoy most ESPN commentators (or at the very least I'm indifferent). Finebaum and Holtz are the two exceptions to that.

I was crying laughing listening to these. My gawwd.

Reading this thread in the state of Alabama, I constantly need to look over my shoulder to make sure no one is taking a swing at me.

Sadly I live in SEC country and it is nearly impossible to avoid the Alabama and Georgia fanatics. Can't have a rational football discussion with anyone. I'm sick of hearing about the playoffs and the current rankings!

When a fanatic gets out of hand or I just want them to shut up I go straight to the "where did you go to college?" question. It only back fires when the person went to the school they are ranting about...and when they decide to take a swing at me.

That probably doesn't happen very often...
Some Bama fans are just tools - she takes the cake!.....ummmm, no offense cake lovers...She can't have any pie!

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

I attended the Aubrun/LSU game this past weekend and there was one Auburn fan who was telling me about the separation between the SEC and the rest of the country. He was saying that each and every year the SEC vs. the nation the gap gets wider and wider. SEC people are just neurotic and oblivious.

*ducks*

I just watched Sportscenter and they played the entire rant before ending the show. I cannot imagine being a football player on Alabama, and waking up this morning to hearing an irrational fan defending Alabama in a uneducated-style rant on national television. What an embarrassment. Now we will always have Jason from Arlington to poke fun at, but we've never had any of our fans make a complete "cow-turd" of themselves ranting about Virginia Tech on national tv. Thank Goodness for Hokies!

I can just see Saban throwing up in his morning coffee today.

I saw that this AM also. bwahahahahaha!!

When you're that type of fan, you feel immense pride that one of your own got onto TV, and more than a little jealousy that you didn't. Finebaum encourages that type of caller, and actually resembles them to a large degree. ESPN has scrubbed him up & pretends he's clean, but he is every bit the Alabammer homer as Phyllis the idiot.

The poster above that called Finebaum the Jerry Springer of sports talk hit it as closely as any. I'd label him closer to being the Morton Downey Jr of sports talk. You have to be of a certain age to understand that, but it's appropriate.

Yes - agree. I think it was 2 years ago when I first noticed Finebaum showing up on ESPN College Gameday. My first impression was that he was an Alabammer homer. Looking more closely into it and the history of his radio show, I think you fully dipped that he encourages this type of caller/reaction from callers.

On the funny side - it does give us some things to laugh at during a bye-week.
