This week Sony Tristar pictures announced they won the rights to Daniel Rodriguezs story to be made into a movie.
I'm sure it'll go like this: childhood, military, the promise, the death...and then VT looking like the bad guy when Clemson swoops in.
Hooray for Hollywood.

Some people get worked up enough when VT is slighted in any way; can we please not invent scenarios that haven't happened where we're envisioning getting upset by something?
Maybe they can play as an intro a short feature film about Stephon Curry?
Can you please make your post titles reflect the topic at all? There's absolutely no need to make intentionally vague titles to generate additional views for your posts.
Sigh. Smdh
I'm not slighted, but do you really want to see how we didn't let a decorated military officer who had his best pal killed in combat play on our football team on the silver screen? I knew it'd somehow come back to haunt us that we have standards when it comes to admissions.
Also, no I can't change my topic. Quit acting like point and clicking is hard to do.
One general comment - if you're going to allow yourself to get worked up over something that hasn't happened, and may not happen at all, then how are you going to act if something really does happen?
And here are a few specific comments -
1. This may seem to be nitpicky, but it's a nitpick about facts - DR was an enlisted man, not an officer.
2. DR didn't meet Tech's entry requirements, and didn't want to go to summer school to get what he needed. That was his choice, not ours.
3. Clemson was able to get him into their school without having to take any additional classes, and make a place for him as a walkon on the football team. I assume he's doing well in both areas.
How? He didn't qualify academically. We don't bend rules. I don't think it's possible to make Beamer's program look like bad guys. Next topic.
Also, it's not that hard to change the topic of this thread either- maybe to something that actually is a topic?
"So. Apparently this is gonna happen." is not a topic- just a hook to try and get people to read it. That's something 2nd rate websites do, and I think we all agree TKP is not 2nd rate. People here would read the thread already, so why not actually have a real topic, so they know what it is they're clicking on? It's what you're supposed to do.
Last I checked, Staff Sgt is in the enlisted ranks.

Sorry you had to step in on my nonsense. Again.
Not familiar with the story until I read this:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/page/veterans121106/daniel-r...
Not sure how it would show negatively in any way on Virginia Tech,
but Hollywood never lets the truth interfere with a good story - so we shall see.
GO HOKIES!
70-80s - Rocky
90s - Rudy
00s - Vinny (Papale)
10s - Roddy?
Don't flatter yourself or VT. Read "The Outpost" and you'll find out that there is a lot more to Rodriquez's life than football or him wanting to go to VT (amazingly his desire to be a Hokie was not even mentioned). The kid and the other 52 guys who withstood a 400 man Taliban attack are truly American heroes.
THIS
Even if VT is mentioned I seriously doubt they will be made to look like a bad guy.
a) I believe the issue was grades
b) Beamer publicly tried to get him in
c) Rodriguez is a class act and wouldn't do that.
This and the "BIG INSULT" thread really are hyperbolic. You should frame this as a positive for a guy that went through hell and back to capture his dream of playing D1 football. Having a movie made after him is something to be celebrated.
Good for him--dude is a hero, and I'm glad he got to pursue his dream.
This was/is a huge PR mistake for Tech, though. To say is doesn't look bad is pure homerism. The guy is a hero, and not only did CFB and VT fail to do everything possible to help him get in, according to his story at the time they did very very little. Regardless of whether the facts played out differently in private, that is the public story. I don't recall at any point Beamer doing anything to try to get him in.
Not bending over backwards to help him get in was an incredibly bad PR move. We can stand on our principles all we want, but it was still a huge miss. And seriously, about these principles, we are not an Ivy League school. A war hero wants to attend a public university and clearly can contribute both academically and athletically, MAKE A DAMN EXCEPTION.
That's all. Rant over.
You can't make an exception for someone who doesn't qualify because once you do, you open the flood gates for other people wanting exceptions for their situation. I'm sure our coaches did everything they can, but if it can't be fixed, you can't blame them or the University. At the end of the day, he didn't meet the qualifications as unfortunate as it is. Does it make us look bad? Maybe, but it's only because he specifically said he wanted to come here. Otherwise, this is just the usual recruiting process that had a little more visibility.
Bingo, and the real Hero's don't come home. 99.9% of Service Members also don't want special treatment because they served in an all Volunteer military either. Especially the ones who've seen actual combat. Not saying that Rod did this, just painting a general picture.
How do you get anything negative about that?
The article even paints VT in a good light.
I think you need to find something worth worrying about, to worry about.
Well, as I've stated before, if I was worried I'd show worry: e.g. "This is really going to make us look bad. I never said that.
One post held true to my thought: Hollywood NEVER tells the true story. Rudy: the jersey scene? Never happened. Vince Papale? They neglected to mention that yeah, he played semi pro ball, not just a flag league behind a bar.
Simply put is this: there will have to be an enemy. An antagonist of some sort. I'm not worried. Trust me on this.
As for the header. Ok. I'm busted. It's vague and maybe I was trying to garner reads, I don't see why that's an issue as well though.
actually you did say that. just saying
I think Virginia Tech's reputation in the real world will overshadow any attempt of making them the bad guy. I dont think that there's enough there that the filmmakers would even go in that direction. In reality, this may never even become a movie, there are so many hurdles to overcome.
Interesting thing about Rudy and Invincable is that the #1 promoters and basically the reason the movie was made were the real guys (Rudy and Vince) lobbying themselves to the moviemakers. It doesn't seem like that's the case here, although he may have some support from the miliatary. It sounds like it could be a good story for a flick. GO HOKIES!
I for one am damn happy for SGT Rod that he landed on the roster of big-time FBS team. Nothing I've seen since everyone first learned of him wanting to play for the Hokies, and the subsequent aftermath indicates that he has any ill feelings for VT. Whatever narrative appears in the proposed movie, I think it makes for a wayyy more compelling film than Rudy.
Really hope this is produced.
I doubt they will even mention us in the movie. Especially if they did it wouldn't be in a bad light because they aren't going to criticize a school who has a deep military history, very active corps, who puts many men and women into the armed forces. And anyone with any knowledge of Tech knows how much pride they put on military personnel.
Plenty of movie ideas get scrapped in the long process of production anyway for various reasons. Just because a studio has optioned it doesn't mean it'll ever be released.
At worst, I see us as being the same as Tennessee in The Blind Side.
Also Dan Devine gave the filmmakers permission to make him the bad guy in Rudy. Supposedly, he was the one who actually insisted he get to play. I've read that he considered Rudy a friend and let them portray him as the devil to help his movie get made.
He did, but he didn't expect it to the extent the filmmakers did it. It sounds like he also wasn't happy with the jersey scene.
Ahem! Got to give the Jackets credit, this is pretty good:

pfft, wasn't in the movie so obviously this isn't true.
/sarcastica
Go Hokies :)
Looks like he also wrote a book that just came out. http://www.amazon.com/Rise-Soldier-Dream-Promise-Kept/dp/0544365607 I live in SC and this just popped up in my facebook news feed. Anyone know if he's seen any game action? I checked the Clemson roster and it looks like he's a senior.
I've seen him in on some kickoffs so he at least has some kind of special teams role.
Yeah, took less than one minute to look up his stats on ESPN.com where it shows that he had a few receptions the last couple of years. Having been aware of his situation, he's been a special teams stalwart for Clemson his whole time there, and has also gotten time as a reserve receiver. All in all, I'd bet he's been thrilled with his time at Clemson.
I don't see this as a negative in any way towards VT.
Good for him....good for Clemson.
There is really nothing to get worked up about over this....lets move on. The Hokies did nothing wrong.
