This year so far I wanted to see how we compared in some of the statistics that apparently matter a lot in the outcome of games. I looked at 3rd down % and red zone. Our turnover margin is -1 so figured didnt need to post that one up. Thoughts on where things are now and where they are going?
3rd down % on Offense

Currently we are #15 which is surprising.
We have also faced GT #1, ECU #10, OSU #20

So yes, I'd say the offense is definitely moving in the right direction
Overall, yes. We are quite good in some areas (3rd down %, red zone, controlling the ball) but still quite bad in others.
61st in rushing yards,
80th in yards per rushing attempt
85th in passing efficiency,
100th in yards per pass attempt,
110th in yards per pass completion.
71st in total offense,
98th in Yards per play.
I look at the 126 teams in groups of 40's. Top 40 in anything is good. 40-80 is average. Over 80 in anything is really quite poor for a program of our resources.
Yea, these are the numbers that provide the "flash" to an offense.. hopefully the execution of the other stats lead to better numbers on these stats.
What reassures me is seeing Brewer complete the long ball in practice. We know he has it in him if he can get consistent enough protection to trust he has time to throw the ball.
Brewer's "deep ball" is just going to be different than we have seen previously. He doesn't have a big arm, which is pretty obvious. But he is good at reading the DB's and does move in the pocket with his eyes up and he will hit some long passes because of it. In particular, the pass that was just a big long for Phillips late in the WMU game is the pass we will see Brewer hit a few times the rest of the season.
But he's not LT where he just drops back and throws it over everyone's head.
We're also #2 in sacks with 26 (#1 in sack yardage) which is pretty nice too.
Well, considering how many interceptions have been thrown, -1 TO Margin is pretty good. Stop with the interceptions, we should climb into the positives pretty well.
Amazing how many ACC teams are in the top 25 in TOP. 7 to be exact. I would have never thought that though.
