Thank you Based Duke.

Duke pulled it out and helps us get one step closer to controlling our own destiny.

I just saw the score on the ESPN scroll and erupted with a cheer.

It is definitely good, gives us much better control of our own fate. Go Hokies!

The drawback:

LOLUVA is atop the Coastal.

This can't be life.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Ehhh, VT plays better with a chip on their shoulder.
We've got a young team that's not fully dipped in uva hate yet and having the wee-hoos actually field a team that could be a threat will give VT a bit more to play for.
Not to mention, the chance to rip out uva's heart and kill their mojo is always an enticing prospect.
Honestly, VT played on fumes against uva last year in a battle of who could care less, and still won.
I look forward to an actual game.

^ this. Can't wait 'till Black Friday!

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

They were sloppy at times but for the most part they imposed their will on the ground. VT should beat them but it will be a tough game. If VT takes care of business, it should be in position to play FSU for a spot in the playoffs.

spot in the playoffs?

unless we win in convincing fashion every game for the rest of the year, i highly doubt this.

i think IF we make it to the ACCCG, we'll be playing the role of spoiler and looking for placement in a good bowl game.

If we make the ACCCG, I think we're Orange Bowl bound, win or lose.

If Notre Dame finishes with only one loss (to FSU), then they go instead of us. They're eligible for ACC bowl tie-ins.

"Exit light..."

I have only seen it as ACC vs. BigTen/SEC/Notre Dame.

And it's the OB's selection for the 2nd team, so Clemson will be a heavy consideration (but they were there last year). Clemson losing to USC doesn't seem to automatic anymore.

Okay now I gotta research this. I thought part of the agreement with ND was that they can't bump the ACC selection out of its spot in the Orange Bowl, just take the opposing spot.

I think you're right, I was just thinking too quickly. I believe it's just as cdsc7 said above.

"Exit light..."

The only way the Hokies make the playoffs is to win out, and then around the first week of December Yahoo sports uncovers an international crab leg smuggling ring involving all of the Top 25 schools, and they have to forfeit their last game.

Leonard. Duh.

...and then all other unranked SEC schools have more than 4 losses.

Congrats on 20k, Mr. Moderator (do your upvotes count extra because that's what I'm going for)

Nope, I have only the power to destroy.

"Exit light..."

Would you be surprised if there was an international crab leg smuggling ring involving all Top 25 schools?

Clearly, something like this would have to involve all the smartest and diabolical minds in college football....Nick Saban, Brady Hoke, Jimbo Fisher, Mark Emmert, Brett Bielema, and Jameis Winston. "The Braintrust" as they are known, have been plotting and scheming behind the scenes for years now....planning to rig the playoffs and at the same time, provide a cornucopia of fresh seafood for themselves.

At the same time, they can rig the substitution rules to slow the spread attack...

VHokie

just heard enter sandman playing at ND.

no crowd reaction, makes me sick.

A couple of friends and I traveled up to the Michigan vs. Penn State game this past weekend and Enter Sandman played...I'm sure we were the only ones of 113,000+ people jumping.

P.S. I must say, for having 113,000 people in the stadium, the crowd noise was very underwhelming. There is no way it was as loud as Lane.

Is it just me, or did GT's fans seem like the whine over every little call against them, even if it was blatantly correct?

Part of me thinks we're a more humble, classier fan base because we watch how Frank leads the team. They have to watch Paul Johnson, which...

I LEARNED IT FROM WATCHING YOU

I LEARNED IT FROM WATCHING YOU, OKAY?

Great pull!
This cracks me the eff up.

I'm not too sure Duke helped any other team out besides themselves. they will be tough to beat at home. The Hokies better bring their A game when playing the other teams in the ACC including the Blue Devils.

Was actually thinking the same thing. However, I am grateful and not surprised Georgia Tech lost. Have to say, the one catch they called back on GT was eerily familiar to the Isaiah Ford catch in the end zone against ECU that was obviously ruled a TD. Had they called that one the other way, who knows what would have happened. So much for Justin Thomas' ACC player of the year campaign

Eh, I don't know. I know this is a new year and different players etc., but if it weren't for the four TOs last year we crushed them. Yardage wise it was like 400-200, us. I know it doesn't affect this year's game too much but we both run the same system. I for one haven't lost any faith in Bud Foster, but I have gained some hope for our offense. We've show some fight this year in our offense while the defense is still a Bud Foster defense. Will we go out and crush Duke? Probably not, but if Brewer can just take care of the ball at least one TO better than last year I bet we win the game.

Basically I have more hope for this year now that GT lost. UVA will lose to FSU, GT loses to Clemson. We just need to take care of our own now and not over look anyone. Every game from Pitt to BC to UVA is gonna be important if we want to go anywhere this year.

Does GT play Clemson before Watson gets back from injury? If so that might not be the automatic win everybody is expecting it to be.

One-month timetable for return, so the first game where he might come back is the Clemson game. That is, if everything goes according to plan. I think Clemson can win even without Watson, given how inconsistent GT's defense is and how good Clemon's defense is. I suspect they can shut down the Bees and maybe even pull off a defensive score or two.

"Exit light..."

That would be great, I am just a little more worried about that game than before last week. Of course the Hokies have to take care of business from here out for that to even matter.

It's not about Duke, it's about VT having a chance. VT does not control it's own destiny in the Coastal. VT needed GT to lose twice. This loss was 1.

🦃 🦃 🦃

yeah but i dont think anyone is expecting GT to beat clemson. we needed that 1 other loss and duke was really the best chance for the jackets to get loss #2 looking at the schedule. hopefully it plays out like that and we win out.

The sooner GT loses 2, the better. Don't care when. And if it's 2 in division, then that's less of a chance GT can take the division.

I don't think GT is going to beat UVA or Pitt. James Connor and Kevin Parks are going to bury that GT run defense.

I'm not sure I'm as scared of Duke as a lot of other people are. Boone hasn't looked great this year and they, like us, have had some pretty significant injuries which have hurt them quite a bit. They're not bad, but not at all as good as they were last year.

But they're not the cellar dwellers of 2004-2012.

And that's why they're scary.

I am not being sarcastic....did you watch the game today? Duke took care of business in the ATL. Not saying we should be scared, but we have no easy games left.

"How you doin', Randy?"

I know you weren't being sarcastic, but I still just don't see Duke being a very strong team. They have a couple good players on both sides of the ball, but injuries and Anthony Boone will limit their ceiling this year.

Wake Forest begs to differ. Still, 5 of 6 could go either way.

Yep, and we really had to work hard to hand them that game last year.

We won't beat Duke if Brewer keeps throwing 2 interceptions a game.

Pour some Beer on it

Meh. I'll give us 50/50 at least. We beat OSU in the shoe with 3 Brewer turnovers.

It took 4 INTs for them to beat us last year

okay

In Sam Rogers we trust.

None of this will mean anything if we don't beat Pitt! Let's run it down their throats! Let's run 300 yards on their D with our 4th and 5th string RBs!!!!!

Who even are our 4th and 5th RBs?

Caleb and JC....

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Or maybe he means after CC&R.

4th is Daniel Dyer.

5th would have to be this guy:

4thdownback

Nah probably THIS guy

One of my favorite plays (and players) from last year. I'd love to see David Wang take a shot at receiver, for real. And celebrate his inevitable success with BOTH an illegal end-zone punt and a Bucky dance.

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

Bucky dance.

Or shmoney dance, as the good folks at worldstar hip hop like to call it

"It might be dark outside, but it's LeDay in here." - Jay Bilas

Point taken -- but I don't think he has any eligibility left.

JC and JCC!

I was going to wait till you guys put up the hatin' on thread, but here's what I have to say: Like as if. I'm counting on years of bad mojo and sadness to get us through. Even if it doesn't really make sense. Also I've been noticing lately, is it just me, or does it look like I'm constantly trying to eat a sandwich that isn't there?

Well Deshaun Watson broke his thumb according to people on the sidelines of the Clemson-Louisville game and the GT loss at the hands of Clemson just got a lot less certain.

Yeah but that game is like 5 games away.

4 games away and they are saying he is out at least 5 weeks.

Now the ACC only has one ranked team...

Clemson is almost guaranteed to be back in the top 25, maybe Duke also

Yup Clemson is 24 I think. Duke and UVA receiving votes.

Am I missing something with the "based Duke" part?

Only going off of what I have found on the interwebs, it's a meme joke about rapper Lil' B who starts many songs by saying "Thank You Based God...you can fuck my bitches." I still have no clue what it has to do with Duke, but I just turned 30 and am completely out of touch.
