How amazing would it be to get 11 in a row and sweat commitment the day after thanksgiving? giggity.
I really was hoping he'd be able to come to the Miami game but hopefully the UVA game will be a packed house [Ha! "UVA" and "packed house" don't appear in the same sentence very often] under the lights too.
problem is the game is Black Friday. the stadium - especially the student section - isn't going to be full. I'm planning on driving back for it but I guarantee you a lot of students won't
I'm not too worried about Hokie Nation showing up. I know I'll be in my usual spot in the NEZ. If it's a night game, it will be electric regardless.
Hokie alums might show up, but probably not as completely as you'd imagined. The bigger point made above was that Hokie students will already be gone home, and their history of returning for games is... less than stellar. Thus the impression left on Sweat wouldn't be as good as on a Thursday night game against Miami.
Based on history, though, I really have serious doubts about the What A Game! factor swaying any of the elite recruits to a particular school or another. Many more factors come in to play far sooner than that.
I think it depends on a lot of factors. Consider, if you will:
1. UVA wins against Duke, UNC, GT, and Miami, but loses to FSU. Not implausible. Two birds with one stone here, because the GT has 2 losses without even considering Clemson.
2. We win all our ACC games. Possible, but will be tough.
3. Backup-plan: GT beats UVA, but Clemson beats GT. #goacc
By that point, everyone in the Coastal is on the outside looking in, leaving VT and UVA face off for Costal dominance. At home. At night (Whit said it). The fans will show up. If it were a nooner the day after Thanksgiving, it would be concerning. Late afternoon/evening is prime attendance time. As much as I love the years that UVA sucks, this would be a hell of a battle that would have real interest.
put the game at night so that everyone doesn't have to decide to stay up with family on the holiday before and then wake up at the crack of dawn and hope to make it to the game on time? where did we find this genius? I remember leaving Ohio at 5 am one year to make it down for the UVa nooner in 2004 and thinking how stupid it was. even a 3:30 time would make it much easier on fans, but night game. friggin amazing! Whit's actions convinced me to join the Hokie Club and I haven't regretted it yet!
Question: Is he on Twitter for real now @JoshSweat9?
Nope, it's fake.
Man that is so wrong. Thanks for the info.
What does it say about me that I give him bonus points for not being on Twitter?
I think you misunderstood me. I meant that its terrible that someone has
created a fake acct under his name.
UGA Nov 14 (v. Auburn), FSU Nov 22 (v. BC) and VT Nov 28 (v. uva).
That's pretty much his final three.
Did he not end up scheduling one to Oregon?
He canceled the Oregon trip but lest we forget OSU trip was Sept.6th. Probably a 4 school battle, hate we have to wait this long. If he signed with us earlier, it might motivate other recruits to sign with Tech.
The scuttlebutt is that he's not that interested in OSU and was there to....um.....check out their competition.
Ha! I like your thinking.
MORE SCUTTLEBUTT!
Everything I've heard is that it's between us and the noles
So he's allowing us to get in the final word before he decides?
No, that is not a bad thing at all. You always want to be the one that sticks out in his mind the most, and if we wow him on 11/28, that oughta do it.
He gets to fill up on turkey and family before heading out to get some more turkey (legs) and family the next day. I'd say that's a good thing. Gobble gobble b*tches. I know Thanksgiving dinner usually makes me sweat; let's hope Hokie Nation can get it's Sweat on too.
Josh Sweat would make an immediate impact at VT for sure. VT needs DE. First lets hope he gets fully healthy so he can enjoy his college career wherever he ends up going.
Sounds like good news with Oregon not getting an OV. Fingers crossed that the annual slaughter of the Hoo will be the sacrifice neccessary to please the recruiting gods and they will bestow us with the gift of Josh Sweat.
Especially when Brewer knocks cavman out with an "throwaway". I just hope Phillips doesn't grab it for a catch on the sideline. Freshman....
uhhhmmmmmm......interesting, if that's the case I would have thought his decision would be sooner
Having the last visit is a huge deal*
*says the guy currently playing NCAA 14
Just the fact he scheduled us last makes me feel good.
Can we make sure that Bruce Smith is at the UVA game?
Bruce Smith is at every game, including the away games. Being a legend with a kid on the roster has its benefits. Saw him being escorted around by Kevin Jones at the UNC game a couple weeks ago.
Awesome. I figured he was more visible since Alston is playing.
Whit, I'm sure, will be on top of it to help create an awesome game atmosphere for that day.
Bruce was just as visible before his son joined the team. bruce has always been the most consistent supporter of Hokie football since his playing days. Having his son on the team changed nothing. Bruce is solid, always has been.
Sorry to say, but these kids are so young, they probably don't know much about Bruce Smith other than what their parents tell them. Is David Wilson back in town? He might have a larger impact.
"NFL Hall of Fame Defensive End" should be pretty self-explanatory. He may not know all of Bruce's stats and whatnot, but I doubt anyone in the football world needs to have much quoted to him about Bruce.
Josh Sweat is from Chesapeake, Bruce Smith is from Virginia Beach.
I would guess he knows plenty about him from parents, of course, but also from coaches. Those geographical ties mean a lot.
Bruce Smith is the all time NFL sack leader and very likely one of the top 3 defensive ends of all time. As much as I understand your point about being hard to relate to his generation of players, suggesting that he doesn't know much about Bruce is like stating that a high profile quarterback recruit doesn't know much about Dan Marino or John Elway. Again, point heard but it's a bit off base (at least in my mind).
