Good for him! Since that's his alma mater, it's nice to see him doing well. While he certainly didn't live up to initial expectations here, the page has been turned. I hope they take the ODAC title, and he settles into a nice long run of success there.

Not talking about Stiney. Before Newsome showed up, we consistently had offenses in the top 20-30 range. Once Newsome joined the staff in 2006, offensive line recruiting and performance went off a cliff.

Our offenses suffered for more reasons than just poor offensive line performance. Not to mention, Newsome was not the sole reason for poor offensive line recruiting because until 2013 the staff did not recruit by position, they recruited geographically. It's just not accurate to claim that was the sole reason for the poor offense we had under the last decade-plus.
There were lots of factors, and to pretend Newsome was the only coach vastly underperforming is revisionist history. I thought he did a horrible job here, but so did Stinespring & O'Cain. To pretend otherwise is simply not true. Newsome was the wrong man for his job, but he was not the only one on the offensive staff. There were others, some gone and some just reassigned. He makes a convenient fall guy, but he was not the only one.

Considering our O-Line failed to execute with even the simplest technique (see Bench, French on the) not to mention he was totally cool with fattening up TEs and going full recruiting cycles without even getting a full line on board, including a year without taking a single OL, I feel perfectly alright with blaming him. Not to mention he ran his mouth and screwed us over with a couple schools in the 757, both before and after his firing. Was the rest of the staff perfect? Not even close. Still, a good OL covers a multitude of sins, and a bad OL makes it next to impossible to win.

Once again, recruiting was geographic before 2013, so that portion of your argument is irrelevant. As for the pretense that the OL was what doomed every other single aspect of the offensive production? Well, it's clear that perspective has been tossed out when creating that assessment, so there's no point in arguing needlessly. It's a lot more productive for folks to put bitterness aside and move on. Have a good evening.

Get over yourself. He was a terrible coach that set our offense back years and we're gonna be feeling it for a couple more seasons. No single other coach has done more to damage the program since Beamer's been in charge, so excuse me if it's a little hard to look past that.

It's weird. For a while there were two schools in VA named Randolph-Macon: the current one, and the former women's college like you said which is now just Randolph College.

I can say, from 1997-1999, HSC was the game that all of us scrubs knew we would get to play in. RMC and Guilford seemed to be our tougher games, although Bridgewater started to get better about when I finished.

The idea that Facebook and the iPhone were not around is shocking, but I remember signing up for Facebook freshman year having it just get to Virginia Tech and waiting for my friends schools to get their email .edu's recognized. Also remember someone getting an iPhone and keeping it quiet for fear of it being stolen.

Lets see how they're doing in a couple years when their OL is made solely of players from LB that they had to convert because Newsome is freakin terrible at recruiting

Word is they got a really good young offensive coordinator that played at Hawaii under June Jones, and Newsome was able to go out and get two higher than D3 caliber tailbacks and a transfer QB from Appalachian State. I will give him credit due regarding his recruiting and putting together a good staff. If Marshall Doss is half the defensive coordinator as he was a linebacker, the D will be good for a long time. But fresh offensive talent has made a huge difference.
I still wouldn't trust Newsome to be an OL coach for a powder puff team.

A good friend of mine is actually a student writer for Emory's newspaper and said that they have now started 5-0 the last 3 years... and then lost all remaining 5 games. Not trying to be the buzzkill, just thought that was interesting. Maybe the Wasps can turn it around this year.

I hope the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the man who stole his salary for 7 years, and may his arms forever be too short to scratch.
Correction - Stinespring was Offensive Coordinator for eleven years, not seven.

top 20-30 .. consistently. no damn way.
there was a string of 8 to 10 years where the worst VTs scoring rank was 30th.... hard to fathom now
that's not the same as a top 30 offense, not even close.
Once we hired Newsome and took away Stick It In, things just went downhill.... alas.
Did they include other high school teams?
Any reason VMI isn't up there?
right, I'm looking at it and thinking that's there's a bunch more teams in VA.
and I'm stumped. who's the SU?
Shenandoah University...a consistently bad ODAC program in pretty much all sports
Hey now they had a REALLY good baseball team for a few years....but yeah they're not very great

It is Clinch Valley College. UVA Wise is still a laughable designation.
Radford?
I was completely unaware Randolph-Macon had a football team. Unless there's a different one than the one that used to be RMWC.
It's weird. For a while there were two schools in VA named Randolph-Macon: the current one, and the former women's college like you said which is now just Randolph College.
That explains it. Virginia is silly.
Where is Old Dominion?
or the Newport News Apprentice Ship Builders?
dafuq?

Good he is doing good. but lets be honest, he didn't play OSU in Columbus like the hokies did.
Totally agree. They have a tough test against H. Sydney coming up
H-S grad here and I am here to say that we're easily one of the best 1200 student body, all male football programs around!
EDIT: All male college, football programs around

LOLUVA(W) at 0-6
EDIT: I found it!!
Wow I LOL'd a bit at having Hurricane Katrina in there
there's some great stuff here! I actually don't even know what some of it is hahaha

First thing I noticed was Heisenberg...
So LOLUVA has never been able to create a YouTube video of highlights of when they beat VT... and then tweet about it.
Let's keep it that way.
Emory and Henry must recruit some great TEs
Well good for them
Lets see how they're doing in a couple years when their OL is made solely of players from LB that they had to convert because Newsome is freakin terrible at recruiting
Franks successor!

Marshall Doss...I graduated HS with him! I didn't realize he was the DC at E&H.
Vtokie5, I was a year behind you.

Your friend is incorrect, though they usually do go 3-2 or 4-1 through the first five.
They've had a 5-5 record 3 of the last 4 years. My bad
Yeah that's it.
Is that thing in the lower corner Longwood's logo or Washington and Lee's? WTF?
The University of Virginia's College at Wise... I had no idea.
Its Washington & Lee's Athletics logo. A trident, designed by a student in 1904.
http://www.wlu.edu/communications-and-public-affairs/publications-and-graphic-design/graphic-standards/the-trident
Yeah, it's one of the coolest logos in the Commonwealth.
Maybe we should play the UVAwise Cavaliers instead. Shorter bus trip (I think) and they'd have to be better competition.
