Clock discrepancy?
Virginia Tech bungled a scoring opportunity just before the half, drawing two penalties after getting down to the 3-yard line.
But the Hokies think a delay of game penalty they got was a little fishy.
Beamer, Brewer and Loeffler all said that the two play clocks displayed a different time. Tech was flagged for not getting the play off, negating a touchdown pass to Isaiah Ford on a quick slant that looked like it wasn't affected by the play being whistled dead.
"One of the play clocks was at zero and one was at 12," Brewer said. "So they didn't reset one of the play clocks. You can't leave it in the officials' hands, but you'd like to have that one back."

This is rather disturbing to hear. Is there any sort of protocol for it? I mean we shot ourselves in our foot enough that something like this is just a major dagger and obviously something we couldn't fight past.

Beamer also stated that the play clock Brewer was watching was the one that went to zero, not the one that stayed at twelve. That didn't make all the headline excuses. We lost this one for MANY more reasons than that play, no need to feed the conspiracy cup.

Nothing to do with a conspiracy cup. We lost this one plain and simple and had nothing to do with the refs or anything else. My question was one of trying to understand how you go about making sure things like this don't happen again. Do you just submit it to the league office and move on or is there something in game you can do.

I'm asking as a curious football fan.

I believe the head of ACC Officials was made aware of it and is going to take it up with Pitt's Game Operations staff to make sure it's corrected and doesn't happen again.

Gotcha. I always thought the two clocks were set to the same timer and that it wasn't even possible for them to be out of sync, but I guess you learn something new every day.

Could have been something as simple as a loose wiring connection, but it's up to the Game Operations staff to resolve.

I think our OC had a loose wiring connection that needs to be resolved as well.

Unfortunately I think our QB does as well, after that double head shot against * he has just not been the same and the hits have kept on coming. I hope for his longterm future his health is being closely monitored by the coaching staff.

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Imagine Mr Bitter asking at next interview session:
"How do you respond to the fans' perception that much like PITT's play-clocks, the Hokies' OC had a couple loose wires?"

I was listening on the radio and the clock in my head seemed like it was too short to be a penalty. It did not feel right. Regardless, there were too many other mistakes to win the game. That we were still in it at the end shows we have some fight and talent. Inconsistent play is hurting us.

It was close, but we were absolutely late. Also, there was no reason to run the clock down that far - except that it's been one of Frank's fingerprints on offense his entire career.

also have to understand that the delay of game penalty came when we had a TD pass caught by ford on a rub route. So not only did we back up 10 yards but it took 7 points off the board when we really really needed them. That right there is another momentum swing... its a different ballgame with us up by 4 than us still having to chase the game with 3 yard passes.

however we still lost and there were way to many mistakes to blame a play clock but points are points and that hurt
