Wanting to look at the positives right now...we're 4-3 and haven't been under .500 this season.
Goals that this football team can accomplish this season:
-Beat Miami
-Beat UVA
-get to a bowl game
-win the bowl game
-have a record that is equal to or greater than last season. (8 wins)
And a couple of goals that could be accomplished with some help:
-win the Coastal
-have a better season than UVA.
I know it's a long shot to win the Coastal, but we were still in it up until the final week last year with three conference losses. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm also not saying never.

And I forgot to add, although it was sort of implied by a couple of the goals above...ruin UVA's season.
It's highly unlikely that our Black Friday game will be a winner take all for the division, but if we can knock UVA out of the division race, or even a bowl, that should be enough motivation.
Thanks for positive outlook!
At this point I really don't even care about the coastal. If we get to nine wins that would be awesome. Which means we can drop two but have to win our bowl game. But having 4 conference losses....in division.....that would be atrocious and the worst we've ever done in confernce play that I can think of. We have won the coastal with three conference losses before so anything can happen. Just kind of numb to it at the moment.
Same here. I could care less about the Coastal as long as we win out or get to where we want to be by the end of the year.
Aren't we all looking for great success

Is getting to A Bowl Game really getting where we want
I don't know about you, but I didn't expect to win the national championship, get into the playoffs, or win the ACC this year. At this point if we win out I will be a happy camper.
I didn't expect to win the national championship or get into the playoffs either, but the win over OSU put us in position to legitimately contend for those things. Since then, we have basically watched those goals, and any chances at winning the ACC, slide away.
Get some positive minutes and experience for all the freshmen and redshirt freshmen on the team. Especially the two QB's since (hopefully) one of the two of them will be the starter next year. And of course beat loluva...
Love the positive outlook here. I'm getting a little tired of talking about all the negatives. Leg
Its got to start with getting people healthy. Pardon my firm grasp of the obvious, but young and injured is a difficult blend.
Simplified but brilliant, Lane Lover. I do add stop the damn penalties.
I would hate to be Miami. Our guys are going to come out playing like wounded honey badgers next week. Night game, at home, against a hated rival, and hopefully in #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING.
This game sets up just like 2003. Mediocre team, at best, struggling a lot at times. Frustrating loss to a team in a frustrating venue (WVU in '03) where nothing went our way. Then, against all odds, we curb-stomped Miami.
I wish I could like this times a million. Time to get our asses in gear because there's still a lot of ball to be played.

The way this team has played this year, we could very well smash Miami. Especially since Miami is the least disciplined team in college football on an annual basis.
Of course, we're just as likely to lose to Boston College right after that.
If we go ugly loss, smash Miami, ugly loss, then I really think I'm in a time warp back to 2003. In that case, I'm even more afraid of the UVA game.
LA LA LA LA LA LA i CANT HEAR YOU!!
I've kept this in for a long time, but Nov. 29, 2003 was the day that I proposed to my ex-wife. It was a huge mistake and threw the cosmos off kilter, and that loss can be attributed to my stupidity. I'm sorry, and that will not happen again.
Looking at your picture, it appears you did very well afterwards. :-)
Thank you and you are correct, I've had my own decade of dominance.
ZING?
The only goal that matters right now ... Miami.
Worry about the rest when it comes.
I want to see a shutout. I don't care if we win the the game 2-0, I want to see the defense KILL it next Thursday.
I want to see Duke Johnson and Al Golden in psychological therapy next Friday morning.
A couple other positives from last night:
Brewer didn't throw a pick (many thanks, LB who hit him late) and Isaiah Ford set a true freshman record for receptions in a season. He's only 8 behind the mark set last year by Josh Stanford for a r-Freshman as well.
Thank you for a positive thread. I stayed off of here last night and reluctantly dropped by now because I wanted to avoid the negativity. I'm heading to the game next week and I haven't been to Blacksburg since the Maryland game last year, whether we're 4-3 or 7-0, I'm excited to jump up & down with 66,000 members of my extended family. Like everyone else who religiously dons the Orange & maroon, I was upset last night, but I woke up today and picked up my little grinning 5-month old cheerleader and man, there are way bigger things today than losing to Pitt.
Not to be overly positive but we are doing just as well as everyone else in the coastal. We are still are totally in contention for the acc coastal.
I'll feel better when GT and UVA lose some more.
But then again, I always feel better when those two lose, regardless of how it affects anything.
This is a rebuilding year with a team loaded with underclassmen, and we're all sitting here worried about winning the division.... at least we're a fan base that hasn't completely checked out.
A week later...and even I'm losing some hope.
At this point, I'll be satisfied with beating UVA.
When I do the write up on my blog for who controls their destiny, I'm moving Tech down to the "Just start winning" category. When we need three other teams to lose multiple games, it's not worth it to play "what if".
Okay, about a day later, and I ended up figuring out what Tech needs to control their own destiny over in another thread.
But a few things that can make us feel better:
-UVA has the same record as us.
-UVA is the only Coastal team that doesn't have to lose any additional games in order for us to have a shot at the Coastal.
-Short version of above: if we win out, we'll be better than UVA at the end of the year, regardless of what they do between now at then.
-UVA lost to UNC in rather stupid spectacular fashion, with a penalty we're all too familiar with -- illegal defensive substitution.
This just proves that London is trying to copy us. He thought it was cool when we kept doing it so he gave it a shot.
