Wednesday, October 22, 2014 Update:
Thus Far 32 people have RSVP'd. If you're planning on coming, please RSVP below! Food and dessert items people are bringing are as follows: Cookies, brownies, toffee, pumpkin bread, apple crisp, chips and 7-layer dip.
The 2014 The Key Play tailgate will be Thursday (10/23/14) at 3:00 PM before the Miami game. The spot will be in Lot 18 (map), and we will hopefully get there early enough to park under the big tree in the front. Look for a black Ford F 150, TKP logo banner and a bunch of folks wearing horse on a treadmill tee shirts. There will be food (Sub Station II party sub, venison, cheeseburgers, brats) and drinks provided, but those are bound to run out. If you're planning on staying for a while, please bring something to contribute; whether that's food to share, drinks, or tailgating supplies (chairs, trash bags, whatever).
Most importantly, it's not just a banging party, but a charity event. If you plan to come by at all, even to say hello for a minute, you must bring $5 or more in cash, canned goods, or supplies from this list if you're a student. That bumps to $10 if you have a real world job. Contributions of money, gift cards, and/or supplies are fully tax deductible. The Women's Resource Center is a federally recognized 501(c)3 and Pam Beale ( administration wrcnrv [DOT] org) would be happy to provide whatever written documentation is requested.
The donations will benefit The Women's Resource Center Of The New River Valley.

I think it's a great cause, and they greatly appreciated our help last year.
Located in Radford, VA, we are a non-profit, human service agency with the purpose of providing programs and services to adult and child victims of domestic and sexual violence. For 30 years, we've been providing hope and help to those who need it in the New River Valley. Our center, the oldest in Virginia, has been and will continue to be the cornerstone of courage and inspiration for thousands of people in our community.
The Women's Resource Center is committed to serving all victims of domestic and sexual violence, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion, disability, or veteran status.
I know how generous HokieNation, and everyone on this site can be. Last year we raised $363.00 in monetary contributions, $100.00 in Kroger gift cards and $150.00 in canned goods. We need to crush those numbers this year. If you can't make the tailgate (boo-ing noises), you can always donate online.
This year we'll be raffling off gift cards to your favorite downtown spots, TKP pint glasses and more.
If you have any questions, leave them in the comments on this post. If you're coming, fill out the RSVP below.
I hope to see everyone in Blacksburg!
*For full disclosure, I'm not associated with The Women's Resource Center. Your donations will be made directly to The Women's Resource Center and won't pass through The Key Play \ Orange and Maroon Media, LLC.
Please drink responsibly.

See you all there!
Yeah, I'll be there with my wife.
Might be a little tough for me to make the tailgate, but I'll donate anyway!
I will be there with my sons (ages 9 and 6, attending their first night game at Lane).
Does anyone know what time the parking lots will open?
From what I remember as a student the parking lots were open Wednesday night. bust seriously I graduated in 2008 and remember people in the lots by noon and tailgating between classes. Oh what glory are Thursday night games.
Also, just a reminder to pick up an extra can or two of food to drop off at the stadium since this is the game that they are doing the Hokies for Hunger food drive.
Can anyone that has been to a Thursday night game please confirm.
After searching for something specific for a n hour Saturday, I found this parking schedule.

Thursday Night Games-Arrival-Departure
Cars ( public)-5pm game day-6am following day
They technically don't open until 5:00 PM, but there usually isn't a problem getting in earlier.
I have a friend that will be tailgating in lot 18. They tailgate there with us every game.
He and his wife plan on arriving about 9 AM.
I will have him text me with details of his arrival and will post here forthwith.
I have been in lot 8 in Litton Reeves as early as 1 PM before setting up tailgates. I would think lot 18, since it's not a regular lot used for parking wouldn't have as strict rules as the others. Maybe it's worth a call to parking services?
YES!!!!!!!! I am so excited ahhhhh!!!!! Just need to figure out what to bring... What will run out faster beer/bourbon or food???
Should be the food. Running out of bourbon or beer is a party foul.
My wife, daughter & I will be next door in lot 9 & will stop by for a while for sure. We're bringing some home baked cookies, toffee, pumpkin bread, apple crisp....also bringing some homemade beer...
You had me at "cookies". Damn, now I REALLY wish I was going to the game.
#teamcookies
I should be there with Liquor Pinata in tow.
I'm sorry in advance but to make this affordable for me I will have to charge you your dignity for a chance to swing.
I don't understand, but this sounds amazing.
a pinata full of mini liquor bottles rather than candy.
This man, he gets it.
Do they not break when you smash the pinata?
Plastic bottle booze!!
One must stroke their liquor pinata gently with a baseball bat or golf club. Then, when the moment feels right and you realize that (as said above) it is only plastic inside, you politely beat it until it gives up its secrets.
I'm going to my friends tailgate, we only come once a year. However, I will donate online, have fun at the tailgate.
I'll be in town, so I'll definitely try to stop by, but where I tailgate usually tends to be other side of campus. I'll make the effort to pop in though.
ok so quick question.. it sounds like campus shuts down at 4 and lots open at 5... what if I get there early like noon park in my specific tailgate lot with the hangtag.. will I get towed?
Doesn't look like it. Since you've got the proper hangtag, I can't see that happening.
A buddy that's been to several other Thursday night games told me this is how it works.
If there is a space in the lot where you have a parking pass, you can park there before 5 but, don't take up more space than your own parking spot if they are still full with students. Once the lots are getting empty spaces, have at it.
He tells me the 5PM thing is just a formality in case students can't find places to park to go to class.
kwality!!!
just spoke with parking services I was told get a visitor pass, park in lot 15, and then at 5 I can go back and put up my lot 15 pass.
My thoughts-
That's dumb. Coming from someone who used to park in Lot 8 at 12 oclock for Thursday night games and have my friends take bathroom breaks from class to come shotgun a beer as long as you get passed the "guard" at the front of the parking lot you are good.
Campus will be half empty anyway because all professors with souls cancel class on Thursday and Friday already.
especially when the Derring lot is for faculty/staff/visitors... I should have 0 problems picking a spot. Oh well I will follow rules, last thing I need is my car towed.... will be a long way back to FL w/out it. lol
So I wonder what the protocol would be for taking up grassy areas in front of buildings then? We're in lot 8, and we generally have a corner spot with plenty of grass. I was kinda bummed when I saw the lot isn't "open" to tailgating until 5. Now I'm wondering if we should try to risk getting in there earlier...

I want to come to this so bad, but we already have a big shindig happening in Lot 3. I will try to make an effort though.
I'm genuinely bummed I won't be able to be there. I made an appearance at the Maryland tailgate last year and had a really good time. I'm hoping I'll get the chance to meet up with some of y'all next year at the OSU game.
RSVP'd - I'll be bringing my tailgate chili (a thing of legend only one-upped by it's creator) with toppings. Hopefully there will be bowls available.
You sir, you are a good man
Alas, I must remain a figment of the Internet. I will be unable to attend. Events conspired to prevent my attendance at this game (work schedules, grumble...) but perhaps next year for anOSU. Hopefully one day I can get over to First Down or something and start putting some faces to the names. Have fun, TKPers!
Good to meet lots of people there yesterday.
Hokietopher your daughter is cool.
Joe, how much did we collect yesterday?
Egbert.....it was wonderful meeting you....Liz thinks you were pretty cool too.....in fact it was great meeting all the TKP guys/gals that we did...Joe, JCtaughtme, terriblemetaphorguy....all of you....we hope that Joe had a great total for the NRV women's center, and although the outcome of the game itself downright sucked, my family feels like we had a wonderful gain this week.....we got to meet lots of really cool Hokies, who welcomed us into their tailgates, and games, and acted like they'd known us and our daughter for years....we shared food, and beer, and laughs, my daughter played cornhole, and frisbee games with strangers who kept an eye out for her as if she were their own child...Liz jumped to Sandman on a beautifully electric Autumn night in Lane..... these are the memories that she will remember, not the score of the game, but what it means to be a Hokie....My family is honored to have shared Thursday with so many of you....
Had a great time at the tailgate. Good to meet all of you! Joe should have video of my dad attacking the liquor pinata...
Those jello shooters were good.
I told Joe about the ice cube trays we have.
We are looking to make shooters with them.
Joe, we liked the flavors in those.
What's the mix and recipe you used?
We showed up a bit late to the tailgate, but had an awesome time. Thanks to Joe and everyone that made it possible. It was nice to put a face to some of the names around TKP.
We will be back next year!
