Miami Week!

Ok I am ready to move on from this past week as im sure 99.9% of TKP and Hokie Nation is.

I have heard some things about a TKP tailgate? Is this going to be a thing??--- my mind immediately goes towards this

lol

Also my thoughts on the game- We find a way to call some simple plays early (hopefully get marshawn back) and bud's d will tear miami up early. Would love to get out 21-3 early and go from there. Miami has a great RB in Duke Johnson, they also have a TE that reminds me of kline.. If we let Kaaya get going it could be a long game because he is decently accurate and can throw the deep ball.

In regards to the O-line I wouldn't be surprised to see Teller get more snaps as he has been pretty consistent week in week out. Our 2 final drives last week we had wang at c, teller at lg, gibson at lt , conte rg, and mclaughlin at rt.. that combo seems to be our best lineup and it needs to continue to grow together as 1 unit.

PS- Im ready for a massive crowd this week and I''ll be ready to jump come 7:55 on Thursday!!

True freshman QB making his first start in Lane on a Thursday night. Let's remind him of why he is a freshman.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

....uhhh isn't he a freshman because of his age?

haha. leg for being a smartass

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Waiting for the Bud Foster press conference where he predicts the defense will make the Miami freshman QB pee in his pants.

Leonard. Duh.

I have not heard about an official TKP tailgate but also remember seeing it mentioned as a possibility a few months back. I will be up for my first visit of the season with my sons (their first night game at Lane!!!) and will be in lot 9. If enough folks will be nearby, I am sure we can get something going.

Pay attention to news here early this week.
And lot 9 is right next to lot 18 where I am.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

You'll probably see it on the front page/sidebar, but here's the link to the official TKP tailgate!

Are those bacon wrapped turkey legs?!

Yes.
Yes, they are bacon wrapped turkey legs.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I've always called it "40 week"

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

Shoulda had a beer instead.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Changes on the O-line are indeed happening.

"Exit light..."

French, educate us!

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Hell even a schmo like me can see Farris just dying out there and Wang's struggles at LG as well.

But yeah I've been very anxious to read French's film study.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

Interesting, the couple of plays where I was really SMH at Wang were when he was playing center, IIRC. But if that's our best option then all we can do is hope.

Perhaps film review will be more telling and/or disagree with my assessment.

French has been tweeting some thoughts about the O-line play and seems very high on Teller at LG.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Oh I'm all in on teller at guard. Less so on wang at anything, but at this point we may not have a choice. Nice to see teller get a crack at starting. I'm all for the official changing of the guard for this OL.

Less so on wang at anything

I'm less so on Farris at anything. I'm sorry, but he has been awful this season

"It might be dark outside, but it's LeDay in here." - Jay Bilas

Oh I agree, this strikes me as a pick your poison type of situation. I don't know that there really is a "good choice" at center right now, it's trying to identify which one is the less bad choice.

I liked when VT's Wang grabbed the ball.

In a lot of metrics, Miami has the best (traditional, I.e. Not GT) offense we will face all year. And their defense isn't bad either, usually pretty comparable to us and UVA.

It makes you wonder how they've lost three games. The Louisville loss was against arguably the best defense in the country in Kaayas first start. They fought against Nebraska but could never quite catch up. And a loss against GT, which is always an outlier. I tend to think they are a lot better than their record indicates.

But they are Miami. They will beat themselves. They will have lapses of lack of focus. We need to play well enough to let that happen.

In finding comfort in the notion that we tend to get up for Miami and compete no matter how bad we are the way teams like Pitt tend to get up for is even when they're not very good.

It's hard to watch a team beat themselves and have lapses of focus. Wait, who were we talking about again?

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

any advise on things to do/things to see other than the game? I definitely want to go to both the war memorial and the memorial on the drill field with some flowers just to pay respect.. then ????

The new engineering building is impressive if you're into that stuff, I like to check out the stuff architects are designing as well sometimes there's some really cool buildings. We just put up the ACC championship banner for the swimteam in war memorial ....uhhh the parking lots for drinking? There's always something on the drillfield too

I'd say just walk around campus. Look up the campus map on your phone and walk to what seems interesting. The new performing arts building is also impressive if you're into interesting architecture. There's always the Duck Pond and Solitude and Smithfield Plantation. Upper Quad and Ag Quad are cool if you want to get a feel for how VT looked in the early years.

Everyone here is an expert and has their favorites but it all comes down to what you want to spend your limited time seeing and doing.

There is a new building right on the alumni mall as well as the new arts building one street over (draper and college intersection I believe). also the new engineering building is impressive. those were the changes that stood out the most to me when I was there about 2 months ago.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Those were the days.. When Gameday would call Blacksburg home.

Hopefully we can get back to that, maybe end strong this season and get them to come to the OSU game next year.

The Dude Abides

I like the idea, but the OSU game is a Monday night game.

Unfortunately, outside of that, we don't have any compelling home games. Depending on how the conference and general college landscape shakes out, they might be interested for Duke or Pitt, but those are long shots.

Do we play Saturday 5 days after that Monday game? I remember some horror with that in the past...

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

Only if Gameday happens when there's a noon kickoff.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

My friends who got lottery tickets said that for the ticket office actually handed out all of the lottery tickets. So it seems like the part of the student body who didn't buy season tickets is pumped for the game. Hopefully we get a full stadium this time!

Any chance of rain on Thursday night? ;)

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Right now the skies are sunny for Thursday. But I would wait for the "official" TKP weather report tomorrow or Wednesday. But I would guess there is ZERO CHANCE of a Hurricane!

Haha expect a report this evening folks, I've got a modern physics quiz that demands my attention first

I've got a modern physics quiz

One of the few times were being an alum beats being an undergrad

"We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behavior" Stephen M.R. Covey

“When life knocks you down plan to land on your back, because if you can look up, you can get up, if you fall flat on your face it can kill your spirit” David Wilson

What makes it "modern physics" versus just "physics"?

quarks of all flavors can can form hadrons

Used to be we that was all done without anybody knowing about it.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

This is ancient physics:
ancient

This is modern physics:
modern

Early outlook has no precipitation but some reaalllllly cold temperatures, id expect it to dip down into the thirties bring your coats folks!

30s? Those Miami boys are going to be coooooold.

not sure if you have any experience with the 'mastering physics' homework assignments.

we called those 'mastering google'.

Every second counts

I don't know how I will feel losing to Felicia's Boy.

Well, you won't have to worry about it because it's not going to happen!

It's Miami week so I'm thinking this a good time to leave some highlights here from my favorite Miami game. The combo of the rain, exciting plays, all maroon everything, and demolishing of the "Jacory for Heisman" hype made for an awesome The-U-is-not-back-party up in the stands.

Also,
sucks

I had a dream last night that we won this game 45-3 and Brewer threw for 5 TDs and 2 picks. Then I sadly woke up.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I thought you were doing a Varsity Blues bit. "...and I woke up sad, cause we're gonna beat Miami by WAY more than that"

I have a stupid question and can't find a more appropriate thread, so I'll post it here. I have a parking pass for Lot 5, and it has a space number on it. Are there actually numbered spots in the Hokie Club lots or is it just for keeping track of how many passes have been printed? I always park in the commuter lot so this will be my first time over there and I don't want to accidentally park in the wrong spot.

"We were at the pinnacle, and we did it for years," Foster says. He pauses, nods, takes a deep breath. "And I did it with the best guy in the business."

The spots are numbered in Lot 5 and a few of the other lots close to the stadium (1, 2, etc). Some of the other Hokie Club lots that are further away from the stadium do not have numbered spots.

If it is a 4 digit number just to the right of the hang tag hole, then it's not the parking space number, it's the number of the parking tag for that lot.

This is going to be great for the ACC.
