Let's take a trip down memory lane playing Miami...
"He said give it to me Roscoe, give it to me!"
Best starting position all night long, eh?
The 2003 game was just too fun.
The U is back for real this time! Yeah, not quite.
One of the best games in the history of the rivalry occurred in 2011, Logan's breakout game.
AJ Hughes burst onto the scene last year, becoming famous in Hokie fans hearts forever in a comfortable win that the offense will never forget.
I don't care what their record is or what our record is, when we play Miami there is also a different intensity than other games and I expect nothing different this Thursday. T-minus 48 hours.

Where's the U Lose pic from 2003?
on my avi for 2 years now.
No other game on the calendar gets me more amped every year. Great compilation of highlights!
That game in 2003 was my last semester at VT and the game was right before my birthday...such an amazing time. I (barely) remember after the game going to Tots and Prestons and it was one hell of a night.
I really wish we could go back to the solid color jerseys as I think they were the best.
Lets Go Hokies...I'll be in attendance.
Preston's was gone by then, it was Woodys at that time. For some reason my girl (now wife) and i didn't have tickets, so we watched it at Woodys. I remember the Miami bus driving through down town afterwards and Blacksburg being shut down. It was glorious.
Low Brau...you are correct it was called Woodys in 03...I was just used to calling it Prestons.
And it was a glorious night.
If you called it Arnold's, you would have aged yourself even more, haha.
It's gonna be a cold night in lane this Thursday. I cant wait to go crazy in the stands! Also, has it been confirmed that we're going with #AllMaroonEverything??
God I hope.....Allmarooneverything
Gosh, it's a wonder that 09 game wasn't 56-0. The good ole' days man. I'll never forget Jimmy Graham's two drops. Classic
I'll be there for the first time in a couple years. I agree with the above posts - regardless of record Miami at Lane has a special meaning. I'll be bringing some newbies for their first Lane experience. Let's get loud and bring the maroon pain train. GO HOKIES!!!
the 2009 game was the wettest game ive ever been to. the game was incredible, so much hype abt the u being back and we just destroyed them....i really hope we can come out firing thursday.
I wasn't there, but I got kicked out of Applebee's that night. Great game.
You know what they say. You're not living life until you get kicked out of an Applebee's.
"If you ain't first, you're last."
I was there for all of the games in the clips above and I'll damn sure be there Thursday!!!! LET'S GO!!!!!!!!
I've been to all of them since '03 (my sophomore year) except for '07. That year, with FSU and Miami coming to town in back to back weeks, and money and travel arrangements being what they were, I could only go to one. I chose FSU, which was an epic decision.
Now, the ACC could make Thursday completely awesome and send us some Ron Cherry!
Another good one... Al Clark was a warrior.
Not trying to take away the Hokieism here, but Reggie Wayne has been great...like forever. But yeah, Al was one tough dude
That's not how you 3rd & 31. Let us show you how it's done...
We'll need Tyrod for that one.
I don't care if we go through so many running backs that David Wang gets a look. Because if he does he's going score a TD and punt it into the stands, and that would be so awesome on Thursday night against Miami.
Anybody else remember how D-Hall kept trying to go for that strip-and-score move the entire rest of the season?
If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure he pulled it off once more, right?
I remember not exactly knowing what position D-Hall played while I was there because he was always scoring touchdowns.
I am pumped up. I hope the student body is ready to roll tomorrow night. I will be there yelling my tail off.
There were over 1000 students this morning scooping up tickets at Cassell this morning. So yeah I'd say we are ready to roll
The line was all the way around the Cassell concourse at 9:05 and people just kept pouring in
were they handing out tickets that hadn't been sold or just the normal lottery?
I'm not sure... I wasn't there cause I've got my season tickets. But at least it will mean more students are in seats tomorrow night
And there's definitely enthusiasm!
I'm glad students realize how overrated going to class is. This is football!
See, Jim Weaver was a genius all along. By eliminating the Thursday night game last year, he's driven up demand from the most rabid part of the fanbase to ensure a great environment for our showcase game this year.
The email just said that there were extra tickets. There's always people who don't get their lottery tickets. I was at the end of the line at 9 am when it was the longest and when I got to the front each of the 3 windows had a huge stack of tickets
Yeah but I know people who didn't win the lottery initially anyway which hasn't happened to my knowledge until this game (for this season and last I believe). I wouldn't be surprised if they've started just giving out miamis allotted tickets that they returned.
sounds like Miami returned most of their 5K ticket alotment and our alumni didn't buy them up...
Good. Can't wait to see Lane with a few thousand extra drunk off their minds students. Hope our recruits come away impressed!
What made that 2003 game even sweeter was the beatdown Miami gave us in 2002 down in South Beach. They were up 56-21 in the 4th quarter and they were still passing all over us and trying to get more points. It was a bullshit rub it in your face moment that really pissed our program off for the next while, and we responded by beating their asses down in Blacksburg the next year, and then beating them in Miami again in 2004 to claim the ACC title on their turf.
That was the season AFTER they got rid of margin of victory in the BCS too...
In short, Muck Fiami!
If there was one game where VT was to put it all together and finally get big offensive plays, create takeaways on defense, and maybe even block a kick on ST; This would be it. On (does it get any better) Thursday night in Blacksburg on National TV in front of die hard Hokie faithful and some highly coveted recruits.
It should be noted that Thursday night games kind of make me a glass half full type of guy.
Michael Brewer should show us tonight that he gets exactly what your saying...
Two games every year are must wins or the season just doesn't feel right..... Both those teams have arrogant attitudes and the one we play this week usually has the athletes to back it up. When they play like a team they are damned hard to beat.... luckily their egos usually keep that teamwork thing in check! Time to dial up the volume in Lane and remind everyone (hokies included) why Corey dubbed it the terror dome!!!
1998 - Ricky hall & My old chemistry lab partner AL Clark in OT. That was awesome
I watched all of these videos last night while I was supposed to be doing homework... totally worth it.
Was that a Jake Johnson sighting in the 2009 video? Totally forgot about that guy.
Sadly I didn't forget because he was a huge liability against Bama
I still maintain we were just a linebacker away from greatness in 2009.
Rewatching that 2009 highlights. Gosh darn I miss Tyrod and Ryan Williams. I'm still astounded by their speed and quickness on tape.
Who can forget this one.
David Wilson....tear....
2004 win gave VT the ACC Championship
Nice find, looked all over for that game and the 1999 one but somehow couldn't find them.
Cant find the 99 one either :-/
But there's this!...
I was at this place called The Original Sports Theatre and Steakhouse in Ashburn for that game. We bet a buddy of mine he couldn't shoot an entire side bowl thingie (like if you asked for extra BBQ sauce, one of those) of Old Bay. It was like the cinnamon challenge before that was a thing, but with Old Bay. He couldn't, easiest free beer I ever earned.
Fun story, the guy who owned that place originally ended up getting in major trouble for some sort of money related crime(s) and ended up fleeing the country. Good times.
For future reference, that's called a ramekin.
See, THIS ^ is why TKP is the best site on the internets. I learn.
1995 win changed the direction of the program.
