Something changed. Not sure when or why, but we've lost that hunger and meanness we used to have. Last several years teams seem to lack discipline, intensity, and "want to". I put that all on the coaches.

I just don't understand. Everything is 5x slower than vs Ohio State. No separation on offense plus the penalties. The defensive secondary looks so soft in run support. Even plays where they put the back on the ground quick, guys are not flying to the ball and rocking folks.

Why is Beamer doing onside kicks and going for two with less than two minutes left in the game when you're down by infinite scores? This is what embarrasses me more than anything else tonight. I'd like to understand the purpose.
Going for a FG when down 30 is just waving a white flag. At least make it look like you care.
I get going for a td, but going for 2?? ...onside kick? No matter how committed you are to the fight, there is a point where you've achieved definitive overness. We're swinging flailing arms at an opponent with an out stretched reach. It's a mockery.

Why not give Leal a shot here in his final go round as a Hokie? I don't like pointing fingers at the quarterback, but I think Beamer should give the guy a shot going forward. Seriously, why not? I can't think of one good reason why (at this point) that would be a bad decision. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again...you guys get the picture

Yeah I'm sad, but I also remember at the end of the day, it's just a game. I am happy for anyone able to make their profession out of it. It's the most hard-hitting, entertaining sport out there, bar none.
How this season ends, I have no clue. But I've seen enough over my short time on this earth to know that anything short of a championship (conference or national) is still possible. I don't want the bowl streak to end, no matter what bowl this team could end up at. The pros still outweigh the cons of going bowling.
Here's to the scoring streak continuing. (My internet sucks and isn't diwnloading homeland season one episodes fast enough. I was Florence's to watch the rest of the game)
I would say that this is what UVA must feel like, but they really should have no expectation of winning to be this disappointed.
I thought the Pitt game was bad and maybe an anomaly. This game was worse. We are going backwards. It is not an anomaly. Not sure what is going on. We have players on offense and defense who simply do not want it. Miami wanted it more. And they got it. There is a serious mindset problem on the team, and I have no idea where its coming from. There is no intensity, and they expect to lose. Then it becomes self-fulfilling prophecy.
Listening to the radio show on the way home. I appreciate Frank Beamer always trying to be the nice guy. I really do. He's an excellent man. But "we're going to focus on the positives" is not a statement to be made after this game.

Seabiscuit totally kicked War Admiral's horsey-butt, despite being undersized, injured, losing his jockey to injury, and, of course, having no treadmill to train on. Can't help but think about our team as I read this.
Given that he was racing in 1937, I sort of figured that. I keep waiting for the part where they run him on a treadmill. Wait, they didn't have treadmills in 1937? No, don't give it away.
It's just so sad and pathetic reading some of these comments. I graduated in '11 and this is the worst VT team I have seen since I started college. We should be better than this, we have had many injuries and excuses before but it's like some people don't want to realize the facts. This team is terrible and let's call it a year and hope we can get a real o coord.
I just don't know where to start. As I said earlier. It's not a lack of talent. It's the mind set. Sports in general are 80% mental.
If you're confident and believe you can beat anyone then you can. I was watching the game with my Michigan state friend and he said that our offense looks like it's going in slow motion. I think that's because they have no confidence in each other (coaches and players). We have no intensity. Its never been so evident that the time for a coaching overhaul has come. I've only followed VT for 9 years but this has to be the worst performance I've ever seen. We are regressing. I think Beamer needs to step down and not tarnish the love and admire hokie nation has for him. We've been irrelevant for 3 years now. Another year of this and the VT coaching job isn't even a big job for elite coaches
VT hasn't been a big job for an elite coach in awhile now.
That's the double edge sword that Beamer is VT. When he goes, we are gonna have to go with most likely an inexperienced coach at this level. Maybe we can find the next big thing, but that's easier said than done. And it's gonna have to be done at some point, regardless of how good or bad the teams s the next few years.
Our basketball team definately has never been an elite job yet we got an elite coach, pretty sure Whit could get an elite coach to come to VT. Everyone has a price.
I'm a Hokie win or lose..It hasn't been fun to watch the last 3 years but this is going to make winning all the more enjoyable. It's obviously the lack on talent on the lines, I think we all agree thst the previous offensive staff was much worse then the current staff but they still found a way to get 20 wins.
I don't know if we can say definitively that this current offensive staff is better than the previous.
They are getting better recruits at some positions. But there are zero in field results to lead one to that conclusion.
When you're getting absolutely dominated in the interior, not a whole lot is gonna work for you. On defense, we really missed Maddy and C. Williams inside. On offense, well, you can see for yourself that Newsome is the gift that keeps on giving. We're not gonna see consistent on-field results for a while.
This team is like the indoor practice facility: At some point in the future, it's gonna be awesome. However, right now it doesn't accomplish much and appears to be pretty useless. They'll get there, eventually.

I don't know anyone at VT or who roots for them to ever put that ceiling on us. Winning the conference first is definitely a step in the right direction, however.
Yeah, and those ACC championships were when the conference as a whole was absolute garbage, before FSU and Clemson got their shit together. There really wasn't much difference between the Big East and the ACC then and some folks would even argue the BE was better.
125 teams every year (or whatever the number is after [insert random FCS school here] moved up to FBS) fail to win the national championship, including a handful that are very much deserving. The only thing you really have control over is the conference. Yes, the goal is always to win it all, but I'll never judge a coach as a failure for not doing so.
I'm betting we're going to see a much better team in the coming weeks. This team is better than what we saw Thursday night.
I understand why people say that, because it is all about having hope. But hope is desire that is not based on actual circumstances. So, I have to wonder - what components of the production on the field actually give you the hope that will happen. What actual, real factors are there to think we will suddenly spring up like a phoenix? It's going to take more than wishful thinking. We've heard all season long from the coaching staff, from Frank on down - 'We're going to work on this' - yet we are 2/3rds of the way through the season and we still get false start penalties like the guys have never played organized ball before. That's just an easy example, I won't go into more detail for brevity's sake.
I just do not see any dramatic turnaround coming this season, and it would take a dramatic one for us to play better than .500 from here on out. That doesn't mean I've 'quit on the team' like some will accuse, it just means I have no false hope of this season being meaningful whatsoever.

Disagree... games like last night are how you ruin a season. The perpetual spiral in to oblivion facilitated by bad coaching, bad staff selection, and refusal to make changes even though the evidence is slapping you in the face is how you ruin a program.
