Well, Ok then

"But Ive got every confidence in Michael Brewer. He knows how to play quarterback. Ive said that before, but I really mean that"

The Dude Abides

Michael Brewer without question is our quarterback, and hes done a good job

Sigh...

"Worst part of the game 'experience' for me was that for an entire quarter and the beginning part of halftime the VT fans were dominating the Shoe. Kudos to them. Made me sick." - Ohio State Fan

You, or at least I did, heard it from Bitter first. I think it's a good (non) move. Five (yes, 5) more games and I'm sticking with the team. Having played on a few down teams in my time I understand they need our support no matter what.

Anyone who thought anything other than this would be possible under Frank Beamer hasn't been paying attention...

Not without a mobile 5* backup waiting in the wings...

"Stick behind us, man," Wang said. "We're giving the effort. It's going to click, and it's going to be amazing when it does. It's going to be a good time when it does. And I know we haven't been all that great so far, but stick with us out there. We really appreciate y'all's support and we need it at this point."

I don't know about everyone else...but I am not ready to give up on this team. They are asking for our help....lets give it to them! Lets show a little support to those that bleed for the Orange and Maroon every Saturday (or perhaps thursday). Win or lose...Hokies for Life....

These setbacks are obviously the fault of Boston College, Duke, Wake Forest, and most of all, LOLUVA. Let's make them pay dearly for it!

Asked what isn't clicking, Wang said he doesn't know.

"I'll be honest, I've talked to all of our seniors. I've talked to all of my close friends on the team. I can't put a finger on it," he said. "I don't what's going on. It just seems like something's not there or something's not right, right now."

While I love his optimism about how things will click and then be good. The fact that he doesn't know what's wrong is the concerning part. He's basically saying "I don't know what's wrong, I don't know how to fix it. But if we just try harder then good things will happen."

Life doesn't work like that. If something's wrong, you identify the reason why it's not working and then fix that. If things are still wrong, identify the next thing and fix that. You continually evaluate and continually improve. The concerning thing is the percentage of Wang's improvement strategy that involves, hope, magic, or some variation of things "just happening."

Is that the message that's coming from the coaches? Again, if so, that's concerning. I hear what you're saying about supporting the team, if people have the means and the time, I think it's a great way to spend an afternoon.

But on a more macro scale, I'm worried. The amount of our improvement startegy this season that involves (sorry to be glib) "Wishing" is troubling. It further makes "wait until next year, then things will be better!" less confidence-inspiring.

The concerning thing is the percentage of Wang's improvement strategy that involves, hope, magic, or some variation of things "just happening."

I think it's actually some dork magic dipped to the correct depth.

I doubt fans who are on this board are giving up, but are we unable to express frustration or criticism without being labled a fair-weather fan?

The Dude Abides

I don't recall seeing anywhere that fans on this board were being called fair-weather fans. We are ALL frustrated, and rightfully so. And we all know there is PLENTY to criticize, but they are asking for our support as fans...and I think they deserve that.

Well said. I went to bed Thursday night feeling like I had lost a best friend...so sad...so sick. I woke up, not full of hope, but determined to support this team no matter what. They look lost with our support. I cannot imagine how bad things could get if we gave up on them. Can you say LOLUVA?

Sadness is how I've reacted. Mrs BCH told me she was ready to go at the start of the 4th, our friends had left after fumble #3 in the 3rd. We just sat there silent for three more futile series while the crowd booed and continued to thin out. I felt like I was younger and had been broken up with and drank to try to feel better but that ended bringing me down further.

I'll be there Saturday and I'll be cheering just as hard as usual but lets face it, the program is in a bad way right now. From the fans all the way to top.

David Wang seems like a pretty awesome guy and teammate. It's tough being a Hokie fan right now, but he's right. Hokies are rarely, if ever, accused of being fair weathered fans. Hokie Nation is something to take pride in, win, lose or draw. Love the enthusiasm!

surprise, surprise....

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

David Wang, Hokie Nation will definitely stick with you!

What concerns me about Wang's comments is that he doesn't know what's wrong. Obviously, I can only speculate, so you have to take Wang's comments with a grain of salt, but if he has no answers, that means the coaches aren't doing a great job communicating and making adjustments. Either that or they don't know what's wrong.

Ever since the OSU game, you just get the sense that the players aren't on the same page with each other, the coaches aren't on the same page each other, and the players and coaches aren't on the same page. Not a good feeling. I hope I am proven wrong this weekend.

I'm not ready to give up either but the same thing week in and week out, it gets frustrating. There is no change at QB, no vertical passing game, no play-action...what do we expect..anything better? I don't want the bowl streak to end, I don't want to lose to UVA and I don't want to wait till UVA to have to win just to survive.

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

He's only the 93rd ranked starting QB in Division 1 football this year, despite having the 28th most passing attempts per game.

Only Hackenberg has a worse rating with a higher attempts per game, so I guess things could be worse...

Having more attempts doesn't move the rating up or down, rating is more based on productivity per attempt rather than total productivity

Can't blame Beamer for not pulling Brewer. At year 28, I would think and trust that Frank knows what he's talking about when discussing tape and what he saw/didn't see out of Brewer. I'm not saying I completely support Beamer's perspective of the matter, but I definitely respect him and his decisions. Whether the playcalling stinks because of him or Loeffler or both, I still support this team and our coaches. Am I frustrated? Yes. Do I still think there is time to pull things together and duke it out as a team? Absolutely. Frank made his decision, and we have to live with it. Right or wrong, I still highly respect both his decisions and the direction he wants to move this team.

I'm just at a loss.

Loeffler is supposed to be a QB guru.

Brewer is broken, it looks like, both mind and body right now. Between his unwillingness to pull the trigger on passes to open receivers across the middle, to his inability to hit open receivers more than 10 yards down field, this is a QB that is reeling unlike any I've seen in a long time.

Has this QB guru failed to prepare any sort of competent backup? I'm a Loeffler defender, but we aren't talking about the gap between LT3 and Leal.

We're talking about the gap between a guy you have a hard time imagining starting for any other team in a Big 5 conference, and backups who you have a hard time imagining could do any worse.

you hit it on the head man, Brewer simply isn't the same QB he was at the beginning of the season. i thought after the bye he would come back re-energized and healthier but he's played his worst ball since that time. my hands are up in the air on this one.

Just a thought. Chad Morris originally coached Michael Brewer in Lake Travis, TX as his highschool coach. Would it be to much to ask that OC Loeffler, who is also our QB Coach, contact OC Morris at Clemson. You know, something along the lines of

"Hey Chad, its Scot. Hows it going? Bummer about Watson amigo, man can I relate. BTW, speaking of QBs..."

I'm just throwing it out there for consideration.

Go Hokies!

I think Morris is a great example of the fact that you can coach and scheme all you want but if the QB can't execute the plan than your gonna struggle.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

I've had the same train of thought:

Watching the Clemson vs Syracuse game and several times I've had the feeling that I'm watching VT play against Pitt. Clemson as VT and Syracuse as Pitt.

One of the announcers made the comment that without Deshawn Watson, Chad Morris has had to change the offense to match Cole Stoudt's skill set as a QB.

I'm wondering if the same issue is what is plaguing VT. Brewer was amazing at OSU, but has regressed as a QB since that game. He also throws mostly in the 5 - 20 yard range with one or two long bombs a game. I don't know if it is a function of the O-line not blocking enough for him or perhaps he has just lost confidence in his O-line. All I know is that he is not throwing as well since the OSU game.

Go Hokies!

Anyone who suffered through the Glennon years knew CFB was not going to make a change. Stubborn like a mule that one is!

yeah, if only Frank would've benched Glennon for someone else. . .

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

Except for the fact he benched Glennon in the LSU game and broke Tyrod's redshirt in what was the second game of the season that year. He might not be as stubborn as we all think, he just realizes there are a lot bigger problems than the quarterback position right now

"It might be dark outside, but it's LeDay in here." - Jay Bilas

No, Frank is as stubborn as we think. He kept Stinespring as OC for over a decade. He hired Newsome to keep AlGroh from hiring him, then kept him for years afterward. He hired O'Cain & kept him. The only reason he removed any of those guys is that he was forced to do so. He is extremely stubborn about standing behind decisions he claims.
