I haven't heard anything but I saw Settle walking around talking to Dalton before the game and Settle was wearing maroon and orange New Balance shoes if that is worth anything...

I firmly believe ALL recruits can relate to big losses. Not too many are undefeated for life.
The big thing they are looking for is reactions, from the players, the staff, and the fans.
They are surely going to hear needling from their friends back home, and hopefully, the things they hear from the people at VT will be good enough for them to parrot back.
I can't say there wasn't damage done, but we will know soon enough if it was catastrophic by what they say in the interviews/tweets in the next few days.

The fans clearing out in the third quarter could not have helped, but I can't blame them. Many probably were heading home that night and the outcome was pretty decided at half.

I don't think this guy was at the game and I don't remember who it was or who Retweeted it for me to see it, but one of our running back commits tweeted something along the lines of "I could start on this team right now" during the parade of fumbles by our backs in the 3rd quarter...

I don't see how a recruit leaves that game and thinks "wow, I'll never see the field here, these guys ahead of me are too good." I would be thinking "this job is mine for the taking"

I was thinking about this subject on my way home today from the game and even said something to the people in front of me during the game. Would you want to come to a school that got embarrassed while they were trying to woo me with a good portion of their fans out of the stadium by halftime and the other starting to boo in the third quarter? We put a whole bunch of our eggs in the Miami game basket and it blew up in our face. As a fan I'm hoping for the best, but since I was there I think this really hurt us with the recruits.

A crowd that was at Lane on Thursday would be an upgrade over even the biggest crowds in Miami.
Yes, some left early, but VT didn't put its first points on the board until the final minute of the game, had 2 RBs go over 100 yards, and gave up the most rushing yards of any team Beamer has coached. Combine that with 26 total yards in the first half and 3 straight possessions end in fumbles.
Those that stayed have orange and maroon in their veins, because that was tough to stomach.

There is no direct link between these two tweets, but I thought we needed as close to good news as we could get. The two tweets were only separated by a matter of minutes. Of course with Michigan's debacle, they could be talking about many of the recruits decommitting. But I did read that Garrett Taylor is planning to return to
Blacksburg.

I have de committed from the University of Michigan. Thank you to the Michigan coaching staff for the opportunity they gave me.— Garrett Taylor (@gtaychillin) October 27, 2014

He has officials to Ohio State the 22nd and PSU the 29th. We have a pretty small window for him to visit unless it is this weekend with the other recruits.

Hey guys. I wanna post a forum topic but don't have enough turkey legs (need 9 more). You guys mind helping me out? I wanna post something tieing in the current VT situation and how TCU fixed the same problem. Thanks!

More like you needed 69 more since 100 is the point at which you can start a forum. Just find a relatable post (say the one regarding Loeffler) and post it there.

I agree with Hokie Hi, post it under an existing thread. Throwing out TLs just to allow people to post forum topics defies the whole point of the limit. That being said, I am interested to see the post.

It just helps filter noise. Given the growth of the site, there was a period of time where we'd have like 20 new threads a day, pushing good stuff down the tracker with a bunch of noise, much of it duplicate information. Now, people have to learn a little more about the community before they can help drive discussion. Voting doesn't affect whether or not something shows up in Active Discussions or the Tracker, so it doesn't solve the problem of noise. It also limits the amount of duplicate stuff Joe would has to delete.

Seriously, years ago, and I mean a long time ago, my roommate had a class at Tech which happened to be taught by one of the coaches (I won't name the sport) at that time. Prior to the multiple choice final, the instructor, ergh, coach implored everyone to pay close attention because it was going to be A very easy test. He said everyone should make an A on the final, and anyone who didn't make an A wasn't paying attention. Needless to say, according to my roommate there were those who didn't make A's. That apparently was before Attention Deficit was officially a disorder I guess.

Eric Whitehead, a DT from Indy and Hokie commit since May was just given a crystal ball on 247 to Louisville by a Louisville insider. Saw he is planning to take an official visit there this weekend. I know crystal balls don't mean much, but I would hate to lose future D-line depth.
Will Louisville get their flipping revenge for Isaiah Ford here?

Dalton had fairly good things to say about his visit this Thursday. He'll be back on Saturday.
Also, apparently current Tennessee commit Darrell Taylor is coming to visit for the Boston College game. Seems to have the Volunteer faithful a little nervous. Shaping up to be another big recruiting weekend.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Regarding Whitehead, I believe he is traveling with a few other guys. It could be a case of, "Road trip? Sure, I'm in." Or it could be a case of an out of state, early commit that could be swayed. We have early playing time available, so let's hope that is the trump card. The part about the CB from the Louisville guy is just a pure marketing move by the site IMO. I wouldn't give that a lick of credence.
The news about Darrell Taylor coming to see BC...really? Coming to see us play BC? That sounds particularly encouraging to me.
Best news, as far as I'm concerned, is that we are in the thick of all of the intrigue, instead of just reading about it going on at other schools. That is a sure sign that we are onto some high caliber guys. Buckle your seat belts.

D. Taylor is taking his official visit to VT this weekend. Dalton is on his official as well. Mook and Trevon will be on campus for unofficials as well. DeBerry supposed to be coming too after missing last week with illness, dunno its his official or an unofficial.

Do we have that much pt at DT? Already have Harry Lewis commit, plus Mihota and Sobczak as r-Fr, Baron and N Williams as Jr and Maddy and Marshall Sr. If we get Settle pt is tight.

With this weekend shaping up to be an important one for recruiting (I don't have a complete list, sorry), it looks like we're pulling out the stops with some famous Hokies:
With the Lions & Bears on byes, well have all 4 Fullers together tomorrow for the game. Welcome back Kyle, Corey & Vincent! #WeLoveFullers— VT Football (@VT_Football) October 31, 2014
Also excited to have Hall of Fame inductees Jake Grove and Lee Suggs back, along with Bryan Randall and Andr Davis. #Hokies— VT Football (@VT_Football) October 31, 2014

I consider this to be bad news, I was hoping we would lock him up this weekend. The longer he delays, the more chance he will switch to UNC. There will be a lot on pressure on him from the locals.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Just because he is announcing in two weeks doesn't mean he is deciding in two weeks. He could easily give VT his word this weekend and tell all the other coaches that his recruitment is over and he has committed to VT but will make it official during his presser at his school. I look at this at more of as Jalen wanting to have his moment in front of family and friends instead of just announcing it on twitter or something like that.

When one shows up for a post in a seemingly random fashion, that's what it is. Probably someone scrolling on a phone or tablet and it's incidental. I evened it out. Probably only need to call them out when a couple start showing up.

I have been surprised to see the response from the recruits about how the losses haven't affected them as much as we originally thought they might. Obviously they can see opportunity for early playing time. I have to say I was really pleased to see the fight from our team this weekend. Even when we were down we fought back and made a game of it. Hopefully the recruits saw that fire too and want to be that spark that will really get us going next year.

My take is that recruits look at where the team will be in the midst of their PT. So for most that is 2 - 3 years time, and what they see is a team filled with absolute beast underclassman and probably the best set of freshman (true and RS alike) playmakers that VT has ever had. The down year not withstanding I think if you can see a program that has the tools to be something then as a recruit that's exciting.

Last night certainly couldn't have HELPED much though.
Hate that our two biggest home games this year in terms of recruits in town have been such debacles.
Reggie Floyd a 4* 2016 athlete said he enjoyed the trip according to 247. I just hope they all were treated well by fans, coaches and players.
I don't think this guy was at the game and I don't remember who it was or who Retweeted it for me to see it, but one of our running back commits tweeted something along the lines of "I could start on this team right now" during the parade of fumbles by our backs in the 3rd quarter...
It was DaShawn McLease
Thanks!
They have to like the potential for early playing time. It seems to continually work for LOLUVA with some stud recruits.
I don't see how a recruit leaves that game and thinks "wow, I'll never see the field here, these guys ahead of me are too good." I would be thinking "this job is mine for the taking"
They definitely are going to have opportunities to take those jobs right away.
At least we hope. Look how long it took for Teller to get a start...
Because he switched positions.
Teller was too good of a player that he was going to start eventually, either on D-line or O-line

I think I saw that section clear out by the end of the 3rd Q, couldn't have helped

Got to say, that sounds promising. Would love some good recruiting news!
Nailed it.
OH MY!!!

That is cause to assemble the band. Tequila is stocked.
Mexican hat dance gone wrong move on standby.
Oh please! Oh please! Oh please! Oh please! That would be a HUGE momentum swing on the recruiting trail!
Maybe something, maybe nothing. Either way, our recent efforts have me dancing!
Hellz yeah
Any info on when Taylor will visit again? Great news on the decommit.
He has officials to Ohio State the 22nd and PSU the 29th. We have a pretty small window for him to visit unless it is this weekend with the other recruits.
He's coming for an official in the winter.
In other words, we have a very good chance to earn a commitment here, but it will not be in the near future.
Tom Loy covers Notre Dame on 247 and CBd Taylor to VT. I wonder what led him to that decision
Tolliver, Sweat, Dalton, Settle, and now Taylor.

So much #teamcake...but...
"recruiting....recruiting.......recruuuuuuuuuuiting"
this gif got me good. thanks!
Probably that G. Taylor made his de-commitment official after his visit to Blacksburg.

I don't really get the point of having a limit before you can post a forum topic, especially now that you can downvote or upvote forum topics.

I agree and encourage such messages.
At least put a gif in your plea
vtfly is teaching Turkey Legs 101 so time to take notes.
My greatest contribution and largest leg generator ever has to be this
post it an any happy topic for immediate legs.
This has to be up there for the greatest Hokie gif ever.
I dunno, I mean there is the Bucky Dance
Which naturally leads to celebrations
High five, bro!
lol talk about an epic fail!
I swear, I believe that girl looked down to see if her boobs were bouncing and then was so happy when they were! :-)
Real or not, she's fucking hot.
I'm pretty sure I've given about a dozen turkey legs to this gif before, but why not again? The GIF that keeps on giving *ba doom chiiiiiiii*
its like that guy who kept asking for legs so he could post this allegedly awesome story. did he ever post the story after all?
Not that we ever saw.
its just a turkey leg, not a million $. I'd give two legs if I could.
Hey, I have a story about a sick grandmother. Is that worth a leg? :-)
Hahahahaha. I'll post it under the Loefler post. I was waaaay off on my leg counting skills. Thanks guys!!!
I just had my first exam for the unc Afro-American studies class....and got a D. Can I have a leg?
(Internet truth alert: this did not happen)

In the spirit of the upcoming festivus and in the attempt to beat a dead horse, I present you Good Old Charlie Brown! Is that good enough for a leg?
No pressure I like my legs like I like my Hokies wins! Hard to get but earned with pride!
And not coming around very often?
I'm sorry I had to. I have a sads now.
I'll see myself out.

Anyone have any insight on this? Seems like it's just based on Whitehead taking visits (which he has done before).

We need to figure out a way to get Mook Reynolds in that car!!

You never have too many linmen, on either side. and Whitehead has the size we need at DT.
With this weekend shaping up to be an important one for recruiting (I don't have a complete list, sorry), it looks like we're pulling out the stops with some famous Hokies:
Can we suit them (Fullers) all up and put them in the game.
With our problems at RB, QB, and OL, you're telling me you wouldn't want Suggs, Randall, and Grove too?
Oh, I would take them all but you can't beat Fuller magic x 4.
You know what else is good for recruits? Slutty halloween parties.
It also helps that it's the Hall of Fame game. ;)
Basketball recruiting: Lost out on Small Forward Chris Clarke, who committed to Tennessee yesterday..disappointing to miss on him..
Jalen Dalton delayed his announcement two weeks to hold a presser at his school.
I consider this to be bad news, I was hoping we would lock him up this weekend. The longer he delays, the more chance he will switch to UNC. There will be a lot on pressure on him from the locals.

Really? It is hard to keep that kind of secret for two weeks with all the modern technology. :-) You could be right, I surely hope so.
Yep it happens a lot too.
Ok, this deserved a downvote?
Edit: Not directed at you, FTW123.
When one shows up for a post in a seemingly random fashion, that's what it is. Probably someone scrolling on a phone or tablet and it's incidental. I evened it out. Probably only need to call them out when a couple start showing up.
Thank you. I was just surprised more than anything.
Austin Clark visiting per 247Sports
That is an intersting development. Boy, could we use him.
Lawrence Cager canceled his OV due to suffering a concussion in his game.
That's rough, hope he'll be alright
We may be the in the process of flipping Austin Clark!
247 says we did!!!!
You're basing that on what?
PTL we got Austin Clark!!! Huge get, position of need!
Finally! Some good news in Hokieland!
