Frank Beamer on Josh Stanford

It has been noticed by many writers that Josh Stanford has been back in the football facilities over the last week. The sophomore wide receiver took a 'leave of absence' from the program to take care of some personal issues after the loss against ECU. Andy Bitter reported seeing him at the team facility on Wednesday.

Frank Beamer was asked about this during his Monday press conference and gave an extremely slight clarification on the matter.

"Well, he's back within the football program," Beamer said. "He's working to get back on the football team and we'll leave it at that."

When pressed about whether or not the leave of absence was Stanford's decision or the coaching staff's, Beamer did not specify.

"I'm not going to get in to the this and that," Beamer said. "He's back in the football program and he needs to do some things to get back on the football team."

It's an interesting development in the story, because I know I had my doubts as to whether or not Stanford would be back with the team at all.

Let's hope he and the coaching staff get on the same page soon, because even with the success of Isaiah Ford, Cam Phillips and Willie Byrn, there's no such thing as giving Michael Brewer too many weapons to throw to.

Whatever it was, lets hope Josh can work things out and focus on football and his education.

I was reading one of the ridiculous "Fire Beamer Now!!" threads and thought I read something about how the Josh Stanford issue was one bullet point of why Beamer should go. I never saw any follow up to that and was wondering if anyone had any information to share.

For the record, I say those threads are ridiculous because I don't agree with them. Not trying to rain on any other members' parade or anything. We are each entitled to our opinion and I just don't happen to share that particular one.

That makes two of us, brother.

There is a guy on twitter claiming to have inside info that is saying that Stanford quit on the team and Beamer bringing him back has lost him the locker room. FWIW i think he is full of shite, but some people believe what he says

exit light

Pretty sure that Andy disagreed with those rumors FWIW.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Like I said, I think the "insider" is full of sh*t

I've heard otherwise from some very credible sources, my roommate works with a players dad and apparently the seniors voted that he shouldn't be allowed to come back and beamer overruled the vote

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

very interesting. I have no sources, but I really do feel like Whit is going to make a move after this season.

Edit: I thought he was talking about Beamer.... I think we will be more than fine going forward at the WR position without Stanford.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

Yeah, I have also heard that Stanford doesn't even talk to any of the players and just keeps to himself. I'm sure he is a great kid, but obviously there is some sort of disconnect there.

If there is that big an issue it will resolve itself after the season. If he isn't being talked to, etc, Stanford will either make up to the team by the end of the season or will transfer. He isn't going to want to stay in that position all of next year.

Oh ok. Thanks for the info. I was thinking it was something much more shocking or dramatic than that.

There could be more to it than that, but I don't claim to know more than there is some guy on twitter with a lot to say and questionable credibility

I'll just leave this here and let some people simmer on it for a little bit. Regardless of what the circumstances were with his departure, there is a saying that I think everyone here universally believes in;

"Once a Hokie, always a Hokie."

You have to keep in mind that these kids are between 18 and 24 years old and might not always make the best choices. Does that mean you immediately turn your back on them?

Just to clarify, I was saying I thought the twitter guy was full of shite, not Josh Stanford. I don't really have an opinion on his leaving the team, as I don't really know any of the details.

I read those tweets when I was really frustrated which led me to reconsider Beamer. But after reconsideration, you are absolutely correct. Beamer's program grooms young boys to become young men. He has always done an exceptional job with conduct issues and keeping us away from being on Sportscenter for the wrong reasons.

FWIW, that twitter guy is a clown. It's hard to believe what he says when he acts the way he does while saying it.

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

Joe, I have a link to another forum that has some interesting tweets listed about the program, coaches, and this situation with Stanford. Wanted to check before i post the link to another forum here.

Thanks for asking. Any time something needs to be prefaced with "I don't know how credible this is" it's not something I want shared around these parts.

I thought the issue was the other site, not the tweets themselves so my mistake on that.

As for the credibility, I may not know his sources or credibility but others on here may and they are welcome to dismiss the information accordingly. There is a lot of information that is posted on here that is baseless and leads to interesting conversation and often followups from people saying the have heard similar or conflicting reports from their sources. I could see not wanting whole threads created based on stuff like that but when there is already an interesting topic and those tweets are on topic, I personally didn't see the issue which is why I only posted the relevant ones but I be more diligent in the future on such things.

I'm sure it was about treating women respectfully.

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

I just wanna say this real quick.

I'm worried about the kid. A lot of people have been talking smack about him, and that makes me sad as well as he played last year, and as much fun as he had rapping with some of the other players. He made references to landmarks and establishments in Blacksburg in his lyrics. He was a great baller too.

I just want everything to turn around for him.

It seems that allowing a player to be on or off the team is not something that Beamer would defer to a vote of the seniors. Beamer is not perfect, as it seemed that he gave Journell too many chances, but he has been pretty good about this kind of stuff over the years. I agree with the above poster that if no one likes Stanford he will be gone after the season. No one wants to feel ostracized on an on-going basis. At this point, the folks that could clear this up are choosing not to talk, so we really don't have much to go on.

I do hope that our locker room isn't a mess due to this type of stuff. It can really bring a team down and make them be less than the sum of the parts. Keeping everyone on the same page is job 1 for Beamer. I hope he is still up to task.

Agreed.

One: Players should have zero vote on who is allowed on the team. Don't get me wrong: Their opinions may be valid. But a football team is not a democracy.

Two: If it was the seniors who made the vote, well, without really intending this to be an insult, I don't think this year's seniors have demonstrated a whole lot of leadership as a group. So if indeed they did hold this vote, I'm not sure it was a good use of their time and attention, nor should their seniority be held in terribly high regard.

On every team I've ever played on, this has been a method employed to foster unity. I also believe it's a bit myopic to question the leadership of the seniors without knowing the full breath of the situation.

Furthermore when the majority sways in a particular direction I tend to favor that direction unless informed specifically otherwise.

Again this is assuming there's any truth to any of this.

Minority Report.

Considering the several articles over the season noting the lack of senior leadership on this team, and the obvious struggles of this year's team, I don't know that's it's myopic in the least for me to question it as well.

I'd say it's downright redundant, but hardly myopic.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DO NOT KNOW WHAT MYOPIC MEANS:

MYOPIC: A SELFIE ONE TAKES TO DEMONSTRATE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE DURING FULL AROUSAL.

SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS, BUT I USE IT FOR WORK AND DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS ON UNTIL HALFWAY THROUGH THIS COMMENT.

What is this madness. I feel so old.
Myopic was totally a real world before you young kids corrupted it

That comment was too hilarious not to add this to.

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

Not saying you're wrong but you should also consider how the assessment of senior leadership gets tossed around as a scapegoat.

In just about every season I can remember, we win and it's because of senior leadership. Conversely, and many times within the same season, if the product turns out poorly senior leadership is the first thing to suddenly get questioned. It's such an arbitrary thing sometimes. There's guys that are confident leaders regardless of class.

Minority Report.

This is true. Last time we had "good senior leadership" was tyrods last year, while logans last two years, as well as this one supposedly had poor senior leadership. Basically, based on all those articles, we have had 3 years of no senior leadership, which I find either hard to believe, or systematic of a larger program issue (which I really hope isn't the case).

Tldr version; what scrapp said

Agreed, as was Kyle Fuller.

I do not give a literal fuck about how Josh Stanford got back on the team, if players want him or don't want him on the team or a "source" who ramblings sound like someone who had too many rails on a Saturday night.

He's on the team now. He needs to bust his ass for the rest of the season to help us gets wins and build momentum for next year.

Fuck drama. Get wins.
