UNC Student Activists Dig Deeper on AFAM Studies Scandal.

There's a lot that could be said about this turn of events that skirts or outright crosses the boundary of what is acceptable discourse on TKP. I'm hoping everyone here can enjoy the inanity of it and refrain from any political discussion.

But this just had me laughing, and I had to share.

Student Activists at UNC have decided the real villain in this scandal is:

Racism and Heteropatriarchal Capitalism

And then they roll out the brigades of Very Serious People, an A Capella group, and apparently even went so far as to have an erotic poetry slam (I'm guessing because of the name of the group, and I don't want to do a search for it at work.)

Because activists must active or something.

I think this whole fiasco may just have a little entertainment value left to give.

Pop 'em if you got 'em.

Well, they are being educated at UNC... they probably just got to the activism chapter in their high school civics course and decided to take action

I was gonna say... being an activist and being a student at UNC seemingly go hand in hand

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

No no, what goes hand in hand is underwater basket weaving. that shit is hard man, you cannot let go or the whole structure will just fall apart.

If you struggle at underwater basket weaving you can fall back to underwater fire prevention

Reading some about this I can certainly state that some people there are definitely learning something,

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Man, undergrads just love those $50 words

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

Think about it....the single paper they had to submit to pass the class was required on white paper. Doesn't get any more blatant than that.

open your eyes, sheeple.

Every second counts

It appears to me that the entire purpose of that rally was premised on the idea that the University and society as a whole forced the hand of the African and Afro-American Studies Department, which if you read the report, is factually incorrect.

Heteropatriarchy?

The idea that men dominate and de-skill women in order to subjugate them into a state where constant subordination is the norm.

Based on the report, the woman at the center of this scandal Debby Crowder was anything but subordinate in her position. In fact, it seems she relished her position as one of power. She basically did whatever she wanted without any oversight. Not to mention that Julius Nyangoro, former department chair, was apparently aware of, and acquiesced in, everything she did.

So basically the students said "big word, combination of big words, nonsensical logic...big words"

UNC was caught with their pants down attempting to advance the collegiate sports industry at the expense of the university as a whole. Nothing more, nothing less.

Hey now.

Those are Public Ivy big words, mister!

I'm gonna go ahead and just throw out some of the gems here:

A report released last week found that special classes were created for student athletes in order for them to remain grade-eligible to participate in games.

Yeah, last week.... about that....

I think that, intentional or not, words have a lot of power.

Solid point.

Seriously, why don't we have this at Tech? I've always wanted to seriously discuss how War Memorial gym totally looks like a castle.

The way that the media corrupted what happened in this space was informed by the way that blackness is understood here

That darned media. It'll get after ya.

Approximately 200 students came and went during the entirety of the event.

Dozens of us

Really, it's quite an interesting read, if y'know, you're into laughing at rich college kids college kids with rich parents trying to stick it to the Man.

Sounds like the kids that took the fake classes got the better education. Seriously, what the hell.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Do we have a lurking heel in our midst? Some of these dvs make me wonder...
