Virginia Techs game at Duke on Nov. 15 will kick at noon from Wallace Wade Stadium and will be shown on @ESPNU.

I know that VT hasnt been setting up rating records, but Duke is a solid team leading the coastal after winning it last year. VT is a four times ACC champion. They deserved their spot on prime time TV.
What is up with all these noon kick-offs?

Absolutely in the right time slot. We are a dumpster fire right now, and Duke doesn't have a strong fan base/interest in seeing this game, outside of Durham, NC. This game is right where it should be, sadly.
Yeah, it's not as though it's Vandy vs ODU...
I'm guessing because we are 4-5 now...
Think about the game generically: Ranked team vs. team expected to lose. Does that sound like primetime material?
Not saying we will lose, but as far as media/national perception goes...
And its usually VT that would be ranked. Sad how quickly things flipped
I can think of 4-5 good reasons to play this game at noon
I think this is my highest rated comment, and that makes me sad :(
Humor helps us deal with our troubles and reminds us not to take some things so seriously. You should be proud. You have been on a roll lately with your posts.
Well it is a really, really clever comment.
This should be expected...A team with attendance numbers towards the bottom of the ACC vs a team that is 4-5.
Crap, I can't even watch the game if it's only on ESPNU.
At least it's not on the ACC network!!!
I would have loved ACC Network, I get the noon games on a local channel. I don't get ESPNU
Gotta get a better cable package in the barn.
Assuming you have internet or cable you might try WatchESPN. Even though it is on ESPNU it might be on ESPN3 as well. Hey you guys are spoiled, the first 20 years following the Hokies, you listened to it on the radio.
What's this "radio" you speak of?
I cut off Comcast so I don't get any ESPNs anymore, and WatchESPN needs to be validated through your cable provider for Amazon Fire TV. I've been around in circles about this, but won't get ESPN until I can get it through someone besides Comcast.
Well they had to save the 3:30 slot for the prime matchup of Wake and NCST
Things I am looking forward to more than this game:
1. Basketball season (gasp)
2. Tax day
3. Dental cleaning
how do we end up with two bye weeks in one season anyway?
14 or 15 week season where you can only schedule 12 games. One of our byes always seems to come the week before a thursday night game though
The Thursday night games come with a 1.5 week turn around before and after the game. If not, a team could play on Saturday and then turn around and play again 5 days later. Not playing on Saturday; seems like a bye, but you play the following Thursday.
Sat game, then off for 1.5 weeks until next Thursday, then off 1 week and 2 days until the next Saturday.
Those just seem like bye weeks, but this week is actually the bye week.
We had a bye before the Thursday game. Thursday is the start of the week, so it pulls the game back early. We're fortunate that the ACC likes to give the bye before Thursdays. Although they did not in 2013.
As said above, we get 2 byes due the way the calendar falls.
I'll be there. Bourbon for breakfast in the saddest of football stadiums.
its not so bad, they got bathrooms now!
I'll be there too!
ACC Fever Catch it!
I'll be there too! The last time the Hokies won I was at Kenan, and haven't been to any games since. Hopefully that's a good sign for the 15th...
Honestly I don't think Wallace Wade is that bad. The atmosphere is fairly good (probably because every time I've been its 50% Hokies), but I love Wallace Wade compared to Kenan. That fan base is an absolute joke, and so annoying...
Actually, tired cliches aside, Wallace Wade isn't a 'sad' stadium when there's a competitive home team playing there. They've already done some renovations, with more planned. Folks get too wrapped up in the SEC - 'must have 90K capacity' - mantra to understand that having a stadium appropriate for the program, like Lane for example, is FAR preferable to having one that sits empty but appeases egos. Wallace Wade works well for Duke.
Here is a pretty good breakdown of exactly why this keeps happening, from Chis Coleman at TSL. Long story short: ratings. VT is good enough and has enough of a draw to get good ratings on a crappy time slot, while not being good enough to justify putting them at a later one.
Paid TSL subscription required, so pointless link. Just sayin'...
If you're still looking to come to the game, there are still hundreds available through our alumni chapter. For $70, you can get a ticket to the game (face ticket = $60) and a pass for an all you can drink all you can eat tailgate pass.
Please head to http://trianglehokies.org/duke2014 for more information and to purchase.
that's a pretty sweet deal, too bad I live north of the Mason-Dixon Line
My wife & I are kicking this around. I've never been directly in that area. How far are ya'll away from the RV lot? Walking distance? What time are ya'll starting the festivities?
The tailgate is at Card Gym, which is adjacent to the main entrance to Wallace Wade Stadium, between the stadium and Cameron.
Yeah - I don't think we really have a lot of room to complain about this start time.
Apparently, the other factor here is that Duke also has a basketball game scheduled that night.
Isn't being on ESPNU at 12 better than being on ESPN 3 in the afternoon?
Definitely. The ESPN3 feed was just awful last week.
With a below 5:00 record, VT should be happy its on TV at all. I will take a noon ESPNU than nothing at all. If Vt wants prime time, the team should do more than just beating OSU and call it mission accomplished.
Its 5:00 somewhere! START DRINKING!
As much as I hate noon kickoffs, I think it should be our last concern.
Good call brother. You had to know that Coach K had a hand in it. However, never seen Mike at a football game. Duke gets more students for basketball games anyhow. Love playing at the high school stadium inside the track. Carnival style booths with the best food choices. Plus, no lines!
