Virginia Tech will be down another starter for the rest of its season. During today's press conference head coach Frank Beamer announced starting right tackle Jonathan McLaughlin will have season ending surgery on his injured left ankle. McLaughlin started all 13 games at left tackle in 2013 and each of Tech's 9 games at right tackle this season.
VT starting OT Jonathan McLaughlin will undergo season-ending surgery on his L ankle Thurs. at LewisGale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg.— VT Football (@VT_Football) November 10, 2014
Redshirt junior Wade Hansen replaced McLaughlin after his injury against Boston College last week, and is expected to handle the right tackle duties against Duke. Hansen sat out the 2013-14 season after transferring to Tech from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Hansen moved from defensive tackle to offensive tackle prior to this season. Outside of his playing time against BC, he has seen limited action this season.
Beamer says new RT Wade Hansen has toughness and athletic ability. Lacking experience, obviously, which is a big thing to be lacking #Hokies— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) November 10, 2014

Oof... and another swift knee to the crotch for Hokie fans.
Man, I'm like:
I am going to go out on a limb here and say chicks will not dig those scars.
Sturdy limb right there.
Winner! Yea, certainly not.....LMAO
We use to use that poem to motivate our Pop Warner football team players when I coached that back in the early 2000s in San Lorenzo Valley, CA (go Cougars!). The last line was "Go for it!" Lots of work coaching those kids, but very rewarding and lots of fun.
2 ball, side pocket
One can only hope Karma will come back 10-fold with all the injuries we've had this year.
If that happens we're a shoe-in for National Champions next year. That's a big damned IF though.
I'm not hopeful - because basketball.
I'll endure 2014 and take 10-fold for next year.
Sweat, Dalton, Tolliver, Settle, DeBerry, no injuries, an effective offense, and 3 more.
Balls.
at least we've got road grader wade hansen waiting in the wings
right guys
right
hold me
Dear Football Gods,
What did we do to offend you?
Sincerely,
Hokie Fans
Stinespring?? Just a guess.
Hooo Boy not great. This is not going to be a fun stretch to end the season. Its going to be a bumpy run towards bowl eligibility.
Two words, y'all. Buzz Williams.
this friday, coming to a coliseum near you!
May be a little undersized but would definitely put in max effort
Plus, he's not above dancing on an opponent's logo.
Someway, somehow, this is Newsome's fault.
Because we didn't build depth.
You mean the way we did with our defensive injuries not being an issue? It's been an issue on both sides of the ball.
*cries in corner*
Not good, but the season is toast anyway.
Here's to a speedy recovery Jonathan. Looking forward to watching him play next year, though perhaps we switch him back to the other side of the line.
When I first found out the news via Facebook (hat tip to Andy Bitter), I said, from my desk, "ARRRRGH!"
My wife, sitting at the dining room table, heard me and asked "What happened? Somebody got hurt?"
It's bad when this has happened so frequently that people can decipher my anguished groans.
Sonova.... Get well soon JM, build for a great 2015!
Welp, this thread should link directly to the Therapy Round Table
eh, the way I see it, if a player is 50/50 on ending his season now (ex. surgery if needed later on) and playing out the rest of the season, I would rather him just have him get the surgery now and end his season so he has more time to heal for next season, especially since he is only a Sophomore this year.
i don't get this one...i must be dumb...
a little photoshop action on a pic from ACC basketball media days in which they asked Mr Adam Smith and and Mr Willie Johnston to draw the Hokiebird
^ what he said!
Ahhhh...gotcha...like i said...I must be dumb..lol.
That kid's hair gets crazier every time I see him. LOL
The hits keep on coming...get better, McGlock! Let's hope Mr. Hansen is up to the job from here on out.
just more icing on this turdcake.
(this is the only time I will use cake to refer to a VT football season. Go #teampie)
Still think the Hokies TORCH the Blue Devils.
Bummer. Get well Jonathan, and we look forward to seeing you return to the field next year!
Condolences to JMcLaughlin. The silver lining in this dark cloud is that he is a sophomore, and will have plenty of time to rehab by next fall. Then he can continue his career at VT. At least this doesn't spell the end of football for him. Best of luck to him in his recovery.
Maybe this could be some time to give Teller some work at OT and slide Smith in at OG some?
We need another OT next year anyway, it will probably be Hansen or Teller or a true-Fr.
Damn.
Good luck JMac. I agree with other who say it makes sense to just maximize the recovery time at this point.
Looks like we're gonna have to go to Wal Mart to find some more linemen for the rest of this season.
Now, yes, there are plenty of huge people to be found there, but the big drawback is, they can't move worth a lick unless the refs allow rascals on the field of play.
So I'm thinking we go another route. What defensive linemen wants any piece of this guy?
If you have to ask you can't afford it.
Well, since Wade has attended both RPI and VPI&SU he should have his poly-technique down pat amirite? guys? amirite?

i'm so devastated
Don't know what this is from or who that is, but this female specimen is easy on the eyes. Too easy I might add
Whoever the girl is from Chuck
This is an EXCELLENT point.
Hansen's vast wealth of polyteching experience can't be ignored, and should have all future opponents chugging Pepto Bismol and losing sleep.
"Someway, somehow, this is Newsome's fault." Good thought!
Stinney too though. The Voodoo hex can't be undone with him hanging around campus. CFB went up to the mountain top behind my old apartments and the mountain witch doctor confirmed this. He has to spit 'bacci juice on Stinney's forehead, spin him around 3 times while chanting Vick was real slick...Vick was real slick..
Actually, the best for JM. Heal, rehab and pancake some butt. He and Shai can hang out.
Yet another product of this pre-season exchange:

At the beginning of the year I was hopeful we could have a good year. Trying to wade through the my personal homerism the who's next on both sides of the line and at linebacker were a big "I hope not" concern as to how injuries would naturally take their toll. It took Beamer and the Athletic Department too long to address the deficiency in recruiting. Let's hope they're really after it now.
As for McL., here's to a speedy recovery. As for Hansen, we're glad you came, so play like you're at VT, not RPI.
