I've seen his name thrown out there plenty of times

However, I kind of hope we get someone younger that can grow with the program.

Why did he resign?

that's unsettling in itself.

no offense to him ... but NO

don't think this happens

NO Just NO

Possible OC candidate: Arizona Cardinals staff

Arizona Cardinals: The offensive staff at Arizona has been dismissed including Mike Miller, John McNulty, Tommie Robinson, Russ Grimm, Frank Reich. The lone coach to remain is tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens.

gtofever

Russ Grimm.....hmmm

possible OL coach? That could be interesting.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Russ Grimm was nearly..

...named the HC of the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to them interviewing Mike Tomlin due to the Rooney Rule. This will not happen, especially as an OL coach.

C Benoit

Russ Grimm as OL coach is tantilizing, but why would he want to move laterally to be a position coach in college?

And I would accept Jimmy McNulty, but no thanks on John McNulty...I mean, did you SEE the Cardinals QBs this year?!

Why would

any of the NFL guys look at college? If we're going to dream, dream big.

I view this like the UVA hires

This is someone who you were able to beat regularly....why get someone whose scheme you were able to defeat? Go find the people you can't beat and bring them in. That's how you get better.

Possible OC candidate: Oakland Raider O/C Greg Knapp

Oakland Raiders: The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Oakland is expected to part ways soon with offensive coordinator Greg Knapp.

I thought they already released him earlier this week?

They did...

Possible OC candidate: New York Jets OC Tony Sparano

New York Jets: ESPN is reporting the New York Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano will not return.

As a Jets fan, I swear to God if Tony Sparano and his bullshit Sunglasses at Night look show up in Blacksburg I will punch Jim Weaver right in the neck.

Possible OC candidate: former Western Michigan HC Bill Cubit

LA Tech: Sources say that former Western Michigan head coach Bill Cubit will interview for the offensive coordinator job with Skip Holtz.

gtofever

I'm not changing my position on who I want for OC. It's still Ralph Friedgen, I don't expect it to happen but he's still the guy I hope we get.

Rip his freaking head off!

Why don't you expect it?

I haven't heard any scuttlebutt one way or another, he makes a lot of sense for a lot of reasons.

I've kinda been expecting Friedgen, Bible or Jim Bollman for a while now.

If we hire Jim Bollman in any capacity I will make one of those YouTube video were I burn all of my Tech stuff in a trash can. The Fridge would have been an appealing prospect a few years ago, but why now? He's been out of the game, and would he put in the long hours on the recruiting trail...

Ehhh, I know you don't think much of him

but, seriously, our bar is set sooooo looowwwwww......

Hiring a coach who has actually coordinated an offense before is literally the threshold for improvement.

And I always thought Bollman was a solid OL coach. His playcalling, especially in the Terrell Pryor era, was pretty Stinespring'ian.

Not that it matters

but I was under the impression that people at tOSU felt the same way about Bollman as we do about our current offensive staff

UVA: Jefferson's biggest mistake

@pbowman6

Yeah, that's not too far off.

I'm not saying it's a good idea, I just think we should be prepared that Beamer will over-value experience.

And, like Stiney, I think Bollman would be a reasonable choice at OL coach. OC, not so much.

In the never going to happen, but if I could make things happen I would, Bruce Arians would be a phenomenal hire.

He would be a phenomenal hire...

but why would he come here? He is interviewing for NFL HC vacancies after leading the Colts to the playoffs, with a rookie QB, one year after a 2-14 season, as the acting head coach. No way he moves down to the college level AND takes what essentially amounts to a demotion in the process, not when the Colts would really like to hang onto him...

I suppose you didn't see the subject line

or first line of Joe's comment? Haha. But you guys are right. Phenomenal hire that will never happen...

You right, you right

That whole "It'll never happen but..." line got me. I mean, it's not as ridiculous as saying "I wish we'd hire Mike Shanahan to coach our O-Line" or similar, but I guess part of me is just tired of seeing this long list of names that would be great OCs, especially names that are extremely unlikely to end up in Blacksburg, instead of seeing headlines that we have a new one.

Couldn't agree more with you on that...

Speculating was fun for a while. But it's time to hear that change has been made. Then we can settle in to speculating on how effective that change will be. For 8 months. Ughhh. #BEATBAMA can't get here fast enough!

"The TKP community is unrivaled."

Sucks because....

...we could have had him last offseason after the Roethlisbergers (errr...Steelers) fired him. We could have hired him with the promise that he would be strongly considered for Frank's job in 5 years.

One solitary yet gigantic problem with that

If we promise him "strong consideration" for the HC job, Bud Foster has that much less motivation to stick around when he can find a decent HC job elsewhere. I believe the main reason he has stuck around so long is that he hopes to inherit the team when Beamer retires, and this would be a great place to get that first HC experience.

He stuck around because of the big fat annuity he gets paid in the next couple years.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

No. I'm a lifelong Steelers fan, that man once ran a wide receiver reverse on the goal line with Hines Ward. That's just one example of his absolute stupidity.

Rip his freaking head off!

Key word is once.

As long as it wasn't a recurring theme, which in my memory it wasn't... he had the Steelers offense mostly competent while he was there, which was a great improvement over most of their prior history.

No, he did it last year with Mike Wallace too. You have to remember that Ben Roethlisberger is a very good quarterback. Arians was never one to try to establish a running game (something I think most people on here seem to want) and that's ultimately why he was canned. Also, I don't know if the original post was supposed to be inferring that Roethlisberger got Arians fired, but that wasn't the case. Ben loved Arians, the Rooney's didn't like the way the offense was going (or any other Steelers fan for that matter).

Rip his freaking head off!

There is a huge difference

between running Hines Ward on a reverse and running Mike Wallace on a reverse.

I agree that his style of offense doesn't mesh with what we have done historically, and therefore what our fan base is comfortable with. And, in any case, there's no reason to even consider the outcome of such a situation because it will never happen, there's no way in hell that he would consider a move to Blacksburg.
