Thats the last time UVa beat us in Lane.

Last time they beat us I wanted to punch Matt Schaub in the face repeatedly

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I still remember to this day the announcer proclaiming "HEATH MILLER THE TECH KILLER" on the fake punt. grrrrrrr

It's cool, he went full UVA last year with the Texans.

Rip his freaking head off!

November of 1998: The national gas average was $0.97/gallon

Ah yes, the Al Clark era (it was the Corey Moore era for me).

The last time UVA beat VT, Isaiah Ford was in 2nd grade.

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

The last time the beat us period was my freshman year. It was awful listening to my relatives. I do not want to give up 10 years of bragging rights this year. I sincerely hope the team finds another gear or level of focus this Friday to keep the Commonwealth Cup where it belongs.

dude, it was my freshman year, too. And I'm from charlottesville. I got crap from all my high school friends.

I still laugh to myself about a voicemail one of my best friends on Earth and a lifelong Wahoo who was at the game left me. It was a like a pent up flow of rage and excitement that was finally bursting free. It's been a tough 10 years on him.

"one of my best friends on Earth" and "lifelong Wahoo"....

I mean ... I just ... I cannot reconcile these two things in the same sentence.

Unless the phrase "helped me beat the crap out of a" is put in the middle.

Some teams that have beaten us since UVA did:

James Madison (I think I heard this but don't remember it)
East Carolina (I remember these)
Duke
Wake Forest
Maryland
North Carolina
Cincinnati
Kansas
NC State
Cal

I'm glad we had so many bye weeks. Otherwise you'd be serious and I'd have a sadz.

I'm gonna be honest. The biggest reason I don't want to lose to UVA is because if it happens, there will be UVA fans storming out of the dark cracks under rocks to rub my face in it with absolutely no shame in the fact that we have dominated for a decade.

I don't talk much trash to friends usually. I definitely don't rub it in to anybody that is an actual alumnus of a school. But I absolutely cannot stand it when somebody asks me something like "You gonna have to find a new team to cheer for aren't ya?" As if having pride in MY school is unheard of. When said person is a UVA fan with absolutely no UVA ties, I just want to punch them in the neck.

Agreed. I hope you don't live in Tennessee then. UT fans are dumb as it gets. I remember when we lost to JMU, my uncle asked me when we were going to fire beamer for losing to JMU. I thought that was the dumbest thing I had ever heard. Firing a coach for just one bad loss after he had single handledly turned this program around.

I'll tell y'all why it's especially important and absolutely vital that they beat them both this AND next year...my wife and I just moved to this shithole (C'ville). Every Sun am my wife wants me to go get a copy of the paper (coupons) and almost every Sun am I gotta see a shitty ass blip for a shitty ass article about the shitty ass football "team" in the shitty ass Daily Progress (or whatever the hell it is). My wife (works for UVA med) has slightly started bitching at me about being offered tickets at work and wanting to go see the hoops team and a "football game". Well I stood my ground and said "f-k no." So it is IMPERATIVE that we win both this AND next season. If the absolute Godforsaken worst should happen my wife (who didn't even go to school here) Will thoughtlessly taunt me. So they MUST win. Sorry. End rant.

shithole's a bit extreme. I live in blacksburg, but grew up in Charlottesville and, really, LOLUVa is one of the few things I didn't like about the place.

Every time I drive 29 in C'ville, shithole is one of the better words I use.

Have you ever been to Morgantown?

Thank God no I haven't. But I looked up "shithole" in the dictionary and turns out both C'ville and Morgantown are in the definitions.

Calling Morgantown a shithole is an insult to shit holes

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

You're correct. In fact, the part of the definition where it uses the phrase in a sentence it states exactly that: Charlottesville and Morgantown are an insult to shitholes (shithouses).

The most terrible thing about Hooville is the "bypass." My wife's folks live in Lynchburg and I want to crotch punch myself every time we drive through that place. Make a road around that damn place, ain't nobody got time for dat.

Carry Me Back

I always thought that other Va school was a scourge on a pretty nice town.

My ex- didn't go to UVulA but was a fangirl and always used "we" and "us" when referring to anything their teams did. I coined a term for folks like my ex-: "Wahoo Wannabe".

Even worse than a Wahoo are those with unrealized dreams of being a hoo.

Well thankfully my wife isn't one of those. In fact, her oldest bro went to Tech so technically that makes her a Hokie. Also, her first college choices were VCU/MCV and JMU but she ended up going to SU (where I went). The only reason we're here is because she wanted to get a job at MCV but they never even gave her the fucking time of day but Uva did (sadly).

Funny thing is, THAT'S what make a program a national entity - the fanboys and fangirls that did nothing academic with the school. My wife's family is from East Tennessee, and I KNOW most of the people that live in that area didn't go to UT.

Just like neither all those Bama or Notre Dame fans ever stepped foot on campus.

I wish we had more of that kind of action, but I'm pretty sure Roanoke is not one of the top 15 media markets in the US. Or 25. Or, probably, 50.

Nielsen has Roanoke-Lynchburg ranked as the 67th media market in this PDF.

AnOSU, the whole damn state are "Buckeyes"

Does anyone have a link to that infographic of things that weren't in existence the last time we lost to the boohoos? I've looked and can't seem to find it

Walgreens was founded in 1901.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

I have a few uva grads as "friends" on fakebook. If/when we win I will proudly post this pic up there (I may just do it anyways regardless).

The last time LOLUVA beat us, I was in 5th grade. Now I'm a senior in college...

At the end of the day, regardless of who wins, we'll all still be members of the greatest community on earth, and they'll all still be pompous, c0ck gobbling, SOBs with a greatly inflated sense of self-importance.

All that being said, Go Hokies! Kick some @$$!

I was at that game in 1998. Keep in mind that was the same season as the Temple loss (at home...I was also there) and the Donovan F$&#ing McNabb game. That was a bad year. Of course, that was also the year we smoked Bama in the Music City Bowl (I was there too! Sitting in that freezing rain in Vanderbilt's stadium was totally worth it!)

That was also the year before we made the Vick run to the Sugar Bowl. If losing tomorrow means we go to the Natty next year, I'd....I'm thinking, hold on. Shit, this is hard.

Nah, '98 wasn't a bad year per se. Finished 9-3. The year before that was complete and utter dumpershitfire. Not only did we finish an "impressive" 7-5, we lost to Pitt, Uva, Wvu while getting asshanded in the Gator bowl to the tarholes 41-3. I'll take '98 over '97 thanks (subtracting the Temple shitter at homecoming no less).

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't that '97 year the same one where UNC peaked at something like #2 before getting stomped on at home at night against FSU before completely flaming out the rest of the way? Also the season that got Mack Brown hired to Texas, so Torbush coached the bowl game for them, and did so well that they decided he was the right man for the job. In a way, you could say us laying down and being the sacrificial lamb set the wheels in motion for their steady decline to nothingness over the next several years which had them completely bottoming out before the Butchie hire.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Yeah, but considering we went 10-2 the year before (which ended in a curbstomping to Neb in the Orange Bowl), losing to Wvu, Uva and Pitt in one season is more than any Hokie can or should have to endure.

So, overall, 98 was not bad because we won a lot of games. But each of those losses were stomach punch losses. Losing to Temple, which people still bring up as the worst loss in modern college football. McNabb pulling the win in the Carrier Dome out of his ass, which turned to party I was at into a wake.

And UVA...That massive comeback that I drove back early to catch. I struggle to remember a damn thing about the wins that year, but I remember with crystal clarity where I was for each of those losses (North End Zone, sister's boyfriend's apartment in Terrace View, 50 yd line in like row GGGGG). Maybe that's why I associate that season with pain.

Sure those losses sucked (especially the Temple). But Cuse had McNabb while Uva still had Brooks and Jones. Who did we have, Al Clark? Nobody for WR. I'll tell you who DIDN'T lose to: WVU, Pitt, and absolutely kicked the shit outta Bamy in Music City. Plus, the Hoos choked a big one to Georgia in the Peach Bowl. It was beautiful.
