Live for 32. Ut Prosim. Let's Go, Hokies.

I'm happy for the players.

So if we play Florida maybe Durkin will know their playbook? :)

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I'd love to play UF, but hate the idea of going to Detroit.

I'm just happy the streak is alive and UVA is UVA... I'd like to go to Annapolis or Nashville but at 6-6, I'm just happy we're going bowling somewhere...

Really wish the bowls were in better cities, Detriot, Shreveport, Birmingham and El Paso.

I'm all for the Military Bowl and I think its more likely than people are giving it credit for. They've never had us before and we have a strong following in the NoVA area. If the Military Bowl has to choose between us and ECU I think they go with us, we'll fill more seats than ECU

They'll really get after ya

Plus we have that whole Corps of Cadets thing

Those who can't see Andy's article remove cookies from your computer it should work after that.

Anything but the military bowl. The opponent blows and it's in Annapolis.

I don't think the Belk and Music City will both pass us up.

The latest prediction for the Cactus Bowl puts us against Washington.. at least that's a team we've never played before, although our record vs Pac teams isn't the greatest

Our record against PAC teams is nonexistent (I don't count 0-5 or whatever as an actual record).

Remember when people used to say things like 'I'm tired of the Orange Bowl?'

I'm just happy we're going bowling. Florida would be a fun match-up, but I definitely do not like the idea of Detroit.

I don't like the idea of playing UCF, but I'd love to go to St. Petersburg. We vacationed there back in July and it was a wonderful city.

This! I don't know why this isn't mentioned more! Game in Florida! St Pete is easily the best destination!

Don't Try To Describe The Ocean If You've Never Seen It...

I think Tier 2 is our destination. Don't know which one but our fan base is so much better than so many others in the ACC that all 4 of those bowls won't pass us up.

Rip his freaking head off!

I dunno, there are 4 teams with two more wins than us, besides FSU. Aren't bowls not allowed to "skip" a team with a better record if the team has more than one extra loss? Though this happened to Duke last year and got them in the Chick-Fil-A bowl over a slew of more desirable ACC teams.

I think that rule changed this year, which Bitter alluded to. I think the ACC got rid of that rule, now allowing more flexibility to the bowls to select teams.. we have several more options this year than in previous years

AKA The "BC Rule"

I don't think we'll get Tier 2. Lvll travels well, and is really close to Nashville, and the guys from the Russell bowl came to see beat KY. GT would have to drop below someone in the polls to not have a lock on Orange, and even getting waxed by FSU may not cover the bump from beating UGA. Klempson travels well, and has looked like a better team than us this year. ND will always get picked better than their record, and its better than ours. We did not bring fans and stunk up the Sun Bowl last year - doubt they go for two in a row. Belk would have to pass us over three NC teams - we have traveled there well, but state fans are probably more excited to be there. Of course if they get UT it won't matter if the ACC team travels well. Love to be in Charlotte or Nashville, but donut think we will.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

The way I see it is there are 6 teams that are guaranteed to go ahead of us (FSU, ND, GT, Clemson, UofL, Duke). FSU will go to the CFP. That leaves 5 teams. The top 3 bowls will take 3 of those teams leaving 2. Then you have 4 bowls with 2 teams, so there are 2 (let's be honest) bad teams that will sneak into that tier. So the bowls will probably take Miami and VT in my opinion since those are the two traditionally best teams of the ones remaining.

My money is on the Pinstripe Bowl. Duke to the Belk, ND to the Sun Bowl, Miami to Music City and VT to the Pinstripe.

Rip his freaking head off!

Miami fans don't travel well, so if it comes down to it, I don't see how Music City would pass on VT - it's in our neighborhood, which will drive up attendance from anyone in Blacksburg. Among all of those listed, anyone who gets Miami is screwed because it's not in Florida.

"Exit light..."

Pinstripe Bowl would be a good landing spot for Miami. Plenty of Miami "fans" in NYC.

Miami doesn't get fans at the game but they draw viewers and boost the TV ratings which is still part of it. Also, the Music City and Pinstripe are in the same tier so it wouldn't necessarily be them passing over us for Miami if that does happen.

Rip his freaking head off!

Hell, Miami fans don't even travel well to the Orange Bowl.

Charleston SC needs to find a way to get a bowl game going. Much better place to visit in Dec than most.
Edit: Build a new venue bowl game, every few years play Clemson/SC game there plus neutral site games for Clemson and SC. I mean what does Birmingham and Shrevports stadium get used for? Build it to hold 40,000-50,000 thousand. Get Boeing to be one of the sponsors with their plant right there.

I like. I like this a lot.
The only reasonable venue would be Johnson-Hagood-home of the Citadel-it holds about 20,000.
(Of course, most lower tier bowl games only have about that many in attendance anyway.)

Blackbaud is in a nice location, but doesn't have the capacity. If the Family Circle Cup venue was bigger (and wasn't two tennis courts) it would actually have a "bowl" feeling.

Trained/lived in beautiful Charleston for awhile, then moved to the Upstate.

Shoog, I'm in Spartanburg. If you are still in the Upstate, lets get together for a beer sometime. Go Hokies. Just got home from a great Blacksburg weekend. What a win. Got to meet some of the recruits at the Inn at VT.

My better half is a GI Doc here in the Grand Strand. We just moved here in March. I'm a big fan of Charleston.

I just learned that the Military bowl is NOT at RFK. I was excited for a bowl in my hood.

But my gf is still signed up for their 5k

which assures victory

As long as we get picked for that bowl!

Don't know how citrus and russel athletic bowl are on the same "tier" as the orange bowl.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

They're not, really. Orange takes ACC champ (or substitute). Then Citrus gets a choice, depending on who the Orange Bowl picked as the non-ACC team. Then RA gets a shot.

Then, the tier 1 bowls all get to choose.

Or....

Under the old system, Orange would be #1. Citrus would be #1 1/2, with RA as #2.

Then, the tier 1 bowls are #4-7.

Etc, etc...

I mean, we all know they aren't but its weird that they would couple them with it. IMO any used to be-BCS bowl game/location should be considered tier 1 outside of the playoffs

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

It's tier 0.

KC should have a bowl game. Weather wouldn't be great but it would be close to me and KC is an awesome city.

Please please please Cactus Bowl........

Cactus Bowl...which I didn't even realize existed.

Welp

I am hoping for Annapolis for the purely selfish reason of it being is less than an hour drive away...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:

I second dat!

Only way I could go to s bowl this year.

We put the K in Kwality

Looking at the opportunities, and seeing that the BC rule has been eliminated, I have my money on us going to Charlotte. Its a bowl we've never attended, we're fair game for any bowl to take us, and we've had a good turnout each and every time we've had a game in Charlotte over the years.

I would be shocked if they passed us up for someone like Duke.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

It's been a while since we've played in CLT, hasn't it? The last times we were there we were good. 'Back in the day'. While a CLT destination would be an easy drive for Hokies, I don't see us having a large turnout anywhere. Lots will talk about going, but just as for the past several seasons, our bowl turnout will be below projections.

Also, the Belk Bowl people are savvy, they tend to give a spot to one of the instate schools. NC State, UNC, or even Duke would be better fits for them than us.

4 years isn't exactly that long, and in fact, its reason enough to bring us back. Not very often that bowl has a legitimate chance on bringing in a name program from essentially their own backyard. (Blacksburg to Charlotte is about the same as Raleigh or Chapel Hill to Charlotte).

Also, NC has a massive Hokie presence. The regions of Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh I believe include 3 of the top 5 alumni hotbeds outside of the commonwealth. Yes, UNC, NCSU, or Duke would be a decent get, but all of those programs have played in that bowl before.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Well I for one hope we do manage to pull Belk somehow. I'll be down in Charlotte anyways a couple days before that and it'd be worth taking a couple more days of vacation to go.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

Don't count the Hokies out of the Belk Bowl. They're also savy enough to notice that the NC schools haven't traveled well to bowl games recently. Even the ones in the backyard.

Leonard. Duh.

None of the ACC schools, including us, travel well to any bowls outside of CLT or ATL. The sole exceptions being Clemson & F$U, and then F$U only arrives the day before the game & leaves immediately afterwards. It's the new bowl paradigm.

"Well" is a relative term...

Props to the ACC for this bowl realignment. I don't travel to bowl games, so I'm mostly interested in opponents and I will admit....I'm an opponent snob. I would rather play a bad South Carolina team than a good Houston team (Is Houston good? I have no idea).

And we are 6-6 and we are looking at playing South Carolina, UT, UF, LSU, Arkansas, Penn State, Washington, etc. Only the Military Bowl against the Big East or if we end up in Detroit (we won't, Pitt is almost assured of that spot) against Illinois would we find an unexciting matchup.

The ACC did a great job of redefining these lower tier bowls as matchups of like teams in the power conferences.

The Sun Bowl was a good destination for us last season, since it was in a (very) different locale for us, and since our opponent was big name (and unfortunately big game).

Yep, and we weren't expected to travel. Our travel #'s have been dwindling, so getting the Sun Bowl is a reprieve because nobody expects you to go there.

I expect that travel is the #1 priority for the ACC this year. Which schools have travel fanbases and where can they go? Clemson will go anywhere. Duke won't travel anywhere (send them to the Sun?) ND--anywhere. Louisville, good to Nashville, certainly. BC, nowhere but maybe NYC. Pitt, nowhere but maybe DC or Detroit. UNC good in Charlotte or nowhere. NCSU good in Charlotte or DC.

My guesses: FSU/CFP, GT/Orange, Clem/RAB, ND/Gator, Duke/Sun, Lville/Pinstripe, VT/Belk, BC/Military, Pitt/Detroit, UNC/StPete, NCSU/Indy

{Edit: I totally forgot Miami. I guess we have one more team than slot open. Maybe they go to St Pete and UNC becomes the free agent}

I am hoping from something strange happen and we get bumped up to the Belk Bowl. Then I could go...
