"I've got to look out for my best interests at the end of the day," Watford said. "Not saying U.Va. wasn't the place where I wanted to finish my time, but I'm just trying to pursue my childhood dream. I want to play as much as possible and still get to the NFL and have an opportunity to play at the next level, as well."
He's keeping his options open at this stage, but he wants to make a decision on his future destination within the next month. Watford was U.Va.'s starting quarterback in 2013, but he fell to No. 3 on the depth chart this season behind Greyson Lambert and Matt Johns.

Yeah, after seeing this happen to the guy ahead of him, I'd want to find a different place that'll look out for my best interests as well.
Even in slow motion Dadi Nicolas looks fast! That's crazy!
I still can't figure out why Dadi didn't make 1st team all-ACC!
Why hasn't this post gone plaid yet???
I haven't seen the Plaid Avenger since the Easy Chair was around. Leg for nostalgia.
I often wonder if he is the reason the bookstores started selling plaid VT trilbys .
I don't blame the kid. We are in the business of transfers, so who knows....
Although that would add to the rivalry, no. I dont think he could supplant Brewer or even Motley, and then they're the two freshman Ford and Durkin (no real idea how good either of those 2 will be.) VT is not the place for him if he wants playing time
No I don't think he would come here at all. The QB position isn't short of bodies compared to years past.
He played worse than Michael Brewer did when he started in 2012. We don't need him, though I do wish him the best.
I quite honestly dont want someone that initially thought going to UVA was a good idea
He had a Hokie offer as I recall. Picked UVA when London promised him early playing time.
I'll give it to London - He at least kept his promise, much to the detriment of Watford who needed more time to work on his fundamentals and his recognition of defenses.
I don't know if Watford would have done any better here. I think he came out of school basically a Dual-threat QB, and Logan>Watford in terms of running or throwing. Brewer definitely a better passer, and with our O-line, Motley is a better option on the QB runs.
UoR could use another LOLUVA transfer.
It is UVA QB Transfer season.
I'm excited for next year! It'll be interesting to see whether Lambert or Johns transfers after having to split time with Corwin Cutler.
A friend of mine (LOLUVA fan...yes, you can co-exist with them, if they're reasonable...and this one is) and I had a conversation yesterday before the Watford announcement, and he made the comment that it looks like they finally will have a starting QB for more than one year, and I jokingly made the comment that what would probably happen is that Watford and Johns would transfer before Lambert gets injured. Now I'm beginning to wonder just how prescient I am.
TL for the use of prescient.
also, from a friend who has coached eli Harold from middle school to fc high school, and then a transfer to ocean lakes, he is leaving uva headed to the nfl, this will really deplete their dl
6'4"/250 DE on a chump team is going to declare early because he is ready for the NFL?

I dunno...maybe it is the tequila, and i know it is midweek but...
To be honest, I didn't realize he was still on their team.
UVA destroys talent. I cant blame the kid . With a change in position he could still make his NFL dream come true.
Kinda short for TE, though, don't you think?
Watson transferring...ooh, that's going to leave a mark. Just wait 'til Cutler has to transfer...

Great Recruiting Message to Hampton HS players and Coaches-
If being dominated on the field for 11 years, not going to a bowl in what 3 years and having time cop as your coach has not sent that message to those coaches and recruits I dint think any message will stop kids from going to LOLUVA.
Good point
I'm sure he's playing the "YOU! Could help us become great and actually start winning things" card. I'm sure a lot of kids want to be a part of the team that finally turns things around.
It's not the high school coaches that we have to worry about in regards to UVa
Wasn't he the guy who got pulled from last years game in the 2nd half in favor of the freshman Greyson Lambert.. who proceeded to get wrecked?
Lambert's stats last year:
4 for 16 (25%) for 54 yards passing
1 INT
3 sacks for -33 yards
net yards: 12
He did a little better this year, but not much...
15 for 32 (47%) for 211 yards passing and 1 TD
1 INT
2 sacks for -22 yards
2 rush for 2 yards
net yards: 181 yards
Always fascinates me to look back at when players committed. A couple of quotes that stuck out to me:
On playing early/other incoming freshmen QB's "(London) told me they're going to try (Rocco, Gooch and McGee) out at quarterback, but they're probably going to wind up playing different positions,"
On almost committing to Tech: "When I went to Tech for their spring game, I felt like a king up there," Watford said. "I wanted to commit right then and there, but my mom said to take my time..."

Heh. This really sums it up, doesn't it?
I know being a salesman is part of the job these days. And I wish CFB and Bud Foster for that matter were better salesmen.
But at some point, you have to hang up your cheap sport-jacket and your fake smile and start working the X's & O's. Mike London just has a glaring weakness there. Hell, on paper and in the locker room he may be a coaching genius for all I know, but on the field the O's distract him because he sees them and thinks "Mmmmm.... Donuts".
I wonder if there is a comprehensive list anywhere of the talent that has gone through LOLUVA without finishing their football careers there. I also wonder how that translates to the percentage of high school commits that complete their degrees at LOLUVA.
I'm pretty sure that's a big part of the APR. UVA's APR (4-year average) is 956 (you need a 930 or better to be eligible for the post-season. To show just how easy this is to do, UNC has a 936), while Tech's is 977. So I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that more football players complete their degrees at Tech than at UVA.
ACC ranks:
VT - 5
UVA - 12 (and their 956 is actually 1 point below the FBS average)
All this info is from an article written by David Teel.
I hear UAB has an open spot.
too soon?
Two things:
GWB has great reaction-time to dodge that shoe...
And if Mike London sees this, he's going to offer the shoe-thrower a QB scholarship.
As well as his classmate just to make sure he gets the shoe thrower.
*photoshopped gif of Dadi flying in and crushing the shoe thrower*
I've always thought the same thing... Say what you want about Dubya, but there is no doubt that he was cat-like in dodging that shoe.
I can't stop chuckling at this image.
When do you think kids realize the whole NFL thing is not going to happen and actually focus on finishing a degree? If you are a r-JR and still the 3rd stringer on a 5 win team you probably don't have what it takes to hack it in the NFL. I would go as far as to say that if a player is not an All-Conf team selection, then they won't make it in the NFL. There are limited number of spots on the rosters and only 256 players are drafted each year. If every P5 conference has 72 All-conf selections (1st, 2nd, and 3rd team, including P and K) that alone is 360 players. Kid should take the UVA degree and hold the clipboard.
That's actually something I'd be interested to know about. How many current NFL players were never all conference, and how many current NFL starters were never all conference. I bet it's a small number.
iunno. a lot of physical freaks are late bloomers. Sometimes they're overshadowed by even better players in their conference (see the TEs in the ACC this year) or sometimes there are WRs in conference who put up spectacular numbers whose skill sets don't quite translate over to the NFL (Danny Cole). You have to be beyond physically gifted to play in the NFL and there are certainly some late bloomers. That said I doubt David Watford will be one of them
As far as current starting QBs, it's so small a number that there actually aren't any.
As far as other players, I don't know if Jimmy Graham was all-ACC. I could be wrong.
Not even Romo?
I think I checked his name first, lol. Three-time All-OVC, including the Walter Payton Award in 2002 (that's the I-AA Heisman if you're unfamiliar).
ah...I wasn't sure..i knew he was undrafted..figured maybe unheralded as well...
It's possible though. See Matt Cassel. I realize he was backing up Heisman trophy winners but it is not unprecedented for a player to be more successful in the NFL than college.
But overall I agree with you point, Watford would probably be best served focusing on the next stage of his life without football, because the overwhelming odds are he won't make it in the NFL given his lack of success at UVA
Just saw that you posted this before me.
/chugs beer
Matt Cassell career statistics at USC: 20/33 for 192 yds. 0TDs/1INT
Yeah, he's an outlier but I guess it can be done.
This made me think of a tweet I saw from Moorehead last march. It's amazing not only just how few people make it into the NFL, but just how little the average player makes for what they give up and how much the contracts of the elite are celebrated as standard.
Man, I love that math just doesn't lie...
Anyone send this to the "We aren't here to play school" guy yet?
You,mean the newest anOSU QB.
I bet it's engraved in his B1G Championship MVP trophy.
never seen it in numbers before and it's even less than I imagined. wow
Man, taxes.....they'll get after ya.
speaking w someone who has ties to OL football and the 757, eli and parents met w agent in Richmond yesterday, corwin cutler struggling to stay in school w grades, likely transferring, and Andrew brown appears to be a bust, nickname is butter, he plays soft
If that's true about brown then he did choose the right school for him.
If he's not careful, he'll get punched in the neck.
little more uva info, canady too is thinking of a move to apply to the nfl
