According to reports from Scout.com's Michael Clark and 247Sports' National Recruiting Insider Ryan Bartow, blue chip defensive end Josh Sweat (Chesapeake, Virginia) plans to announce his college choice next Wednesday (12/10/14) at Oscar Smith High School.
The finalists for Sweat's services are Virginia Tech, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon. According to Bartow, Ohio State will be at Oscar Smith to visit Sweat Thursday. Georgia visited Virginia's top prospect on Monday, and the Hokies stopped by on Tuesday. Sweat has taken official visits to all of his finalists except Oregon. However, according to Bartow Sweat is considering a "tentative" week visit to Oregon this Saturday.
Sweat is rated as the No. 6 recruit nationally by the 247Sports Composite ranking. Virginia Tech's need for defensive ends is well documented, as are its misses on top in-state recruits. For those reasons, Sweat would be the gem of the Hokies' 2015 class.

Comments
Please just let us get this one.
Sweat, pls.
Will not be getting any work done around the time he is set to announce, hopefully it will be live streamed.
I don't think I can handle another let down. With that being said all we can do is wait and see!
I'll be sitting by my computer clicking refresh like this next Wednesday..

THE WATER COLD!
Nothing like safe sex.
Move over Colonel. Here comes the General!
Reading this makes me all sweaty...
This would be the best birthday present I could possibly receive.
ok fine! I won't have the high techs show up at your doorstep and do a special dance just for you! Ungratefull son of a...
Maybe instead I'll get the highty tighties over there at 4 am.
If you could pull off getting the Highty Tighties to my place at 4am on a Wednesday...
The best way to get the HT's somewhere is to tell them that they're not allowed to be there. Seriously, they're as bad as Harry Potter

I was looking for a different gif but...[shrug]
That's ok. This gif is just fine.
My birthday is next month, send the High Techs my way. My wife may not be too happy, but what the hell, it's MY birthday!
Nope, get the Low Techs.
It's our wedding anniversary, if I let out a scream at my computer I will tell my wife I just realized how happy a married man I am. :-)
Just so happened that it was my wedding anniversary when Jalen Dalton announced... I therefore think it is in the team's best interests that you sign divorce papers before Wednesday. Do it for the team.
Don't do it really, it's not worth it.
...or is it?
Nah, she's a keeper.
...so you're wife's an avid reader of TKP. That's awesome!
Fellow Hokie, married 44 years.
Was trying to make a joke that your kind words were because she was reading. I have failed.
But other than that, that's awesome! Congratulations!
I knew it was a joke. (WHOOSH)
That's beyond impressive.
You'll have to let us in on your strategies.
Congrats to you and the missus.
Yes,dear. Whatever you say. :-)
So is Sweat.
My anniversary was last Friday and it was the best present! My wife tanked on goose and my boys screaming their heads off plus a nice cold bed at the Days inn in Cburg!
tmi?
Our in roads with Oscar Smith might pay off huge if we get this one
I like how Sweat is handling his recruitment. Hes totally professional about it. Of course I hope he picks Tech but wherever he goes, good luck to him.
Hopefully beating UVA put us over the top. And we went into the Shoe and handled anOSU.
GT just beat UGA so hopefully that stings a little.
Oregon is too far away.
These are all my own hopes.
Apparently the FSU visit went very well. Hoping Mama Sweat will convince him to stay in-state!!
Based on the picture...A levitating defensive lineman would be awesome!
immune to GT's blocking scheme!
And I dare anyone to pass over him.
Can you imagine him on the field goal block team? He would take Beamerball to a new level.
I can't believe that nobody saw what I did there. I thought for sure somebody would catch it... Maybe I'm losing my touch.
Really? A down vote for this?
Evened out (didn't warrant it); the whole "comment when I didn't get any replies or recognitions for something" probably reminds people of one of our recently banned trolls who used to always whine when he didn't get upvotes for stuff he found funny.
Also not worth complaining if it's a -1, sometimes those are just incidental.
Hopefully without starting a huge meta thread, I'll cop and apologize to the (just reset) down vote on this. I was trying to troll humorously, which is dumb. I figured it was a victimless crime, but it's still dumb. Just pushing buttons for lolz, which is not nice, and also dumb
Suggestion: comment with "Don't be Bender" from now on. All of us who have been around long enough will get a good laugh out of it.
I also need to now reset my "days without a sub-thread about votes" counter to zero...grumble grumble...
We need an inside baseball thread to talk commenting etiquette, and it would just be the best/worst meta thing ever
lol just reply with this
^ Winning.
No problem man, I was just being overly touchy after getting beat up on another thread.
Ok, wasn't meaning to sound like I was begging for legs, I wasn't. And wasn't trying to troll and whine. I wasn't even looking for a leg with the original comment, just thought someone might see that I was using the word "level" with a double meaning. (I like to see how others post the "I see what you did there" comments, and was trying to draw one) As I said, I must be losing my touch, either that or I'm just not as funny as I thought I was. Also, I got beat up on another thread for something I said that offended people without my meaning too. So, maybe I'm a little sensitive right now. I'll go back now and take some "Man-Pills", and I'll be better.
Another reason I love this site. Realizing that you can be in a sensitive place and reacting from that, and coming back and apologizing for it.
Indeed. As I read once on usenet, "That's what makes us a community of idiots, as opposed to just a collection of idiots."
Yeah, I'm old enough to remember usenet.
I don't feel you have to be THAT old to remember usenet. You just have to be young and into technology as I was.
You're good, bud. Just trying to give some context, not calling you out for it. You're relatively new so you may not remember some of the Bender adventures like some of us.
Sorry dude. Hit the wrong one. You're fixed up now
And to be clear I am giving you a leg because I felt you needed a pick me up. I do agree with Guitarman though. no need to pander
Thanks. See my humility above...
Best of luck wherever you end up kid, hopefully its with da good guys.
I wish I could jump that high when I play basketball.
I wish I could jump that high when I'm on a trampoline.
I wish I could jump
guess enter sandman is like a kick in the balls to you then huh?
This comment string is M-azing.
I wish I could climb stairs that high without being winded.
I hope the forecast for next Wednesday is much like today's:

I really hope he commits to us next week...he just appears to be such a good kid.
Also his jersey number is #9 in HS...Kendall wears #11...we can finally have a return of the 911 Defense that was Xavier and Hall.
Di Vinci Code Solved...boom.
I doubt that motley would give up his number but i guess a team can have two number 9s as long as aren't on the field at the same time or something like that
see JC and Bane Ekanem both have 4 so yes your logic is correct!
First time Beamer allowed that to happen I believe. Happens a lot in college, and way too frequently at Florida State.
FSU Roster
The difference is that they gave everyone a number whereas we don't. They have 3 players with #20, but 2 are true Freshmen. That obviously doesn't cover all their situations, but it does eliminate a bunch of the duplicates.
Fair to point out. I originally went to see the name of the other #5 to give an example, but then thought what I found was a little comical.
... which confused my wife right up through the UVa game. "I thought Coleman was #4 -- no way he's playing defensive line?"
I doubt he picks us. Don't get me wrong, he would be a great addition, but recruiting doesn't make sense and I'm not gonna get upset over it. After Dalton I said I was done worrying about recruiting because because the chips will fall where they may!
Dalton choosing the Tar Heels is no comparison. He was a Tar Heel kid raised in the Tar Heel hotbed, and was recruited by the Tar Heels.
If UNC had missed on Dalton, that would have been a whiff of catastrophic proportions by Coach Larry.
My money is on FSU.
I really hope I'm wrong.
"but recruiting doesn't make sense"
Beat UVA last week.
This week I find out I am having a boy.
Next week Josh Sweat announcing VT.
What in the hell do I need for Xmas???
MAZEL TOV!
Congrats!
What do you need for Christmas??
Diapers
stroller
car seat
crib
baby clothes
wipes
baby powder
scrub-able paint (for everything from the floor to about four feet high on EVERY wall)
potty chair (can wait a little bit on this one)
stuffed Hokie Bird for his first baby toy
The list goes on and on.....
But mostly you will need sleep. Get it while you can...
Desitin diaper rash cream - worth its weight in gold
I'm pretty sure it's made from liquified unicorns...don't tell Horse on a Treadmill
Naw... Boudreaux's (sp) Butt Paste is the stuff.
Everyone pitched this to my wife and I aslo...we did not find the success with it everyone else did. The best thing for diaper rash that worked for our daughter was good ole fashioned A & D
Grandma El's works wonders as well.
I thought that was another name for Tabasco?
A football.
Fixed your list for you.
Football? Football! What's a football? Without conscious will, my voice squeaked out... "Football."
Give him sleep! And his own nipple!
Cow Bag Balm!
Sleep.
Coffee/trucker pills. Me and my wife are still waiting on the so called easy baby, you know the kind that takes naps longer than 15 mins and will just get tired and fall asleep where they are, throught the night. What we get is the youngest one makes the older ones look easier.
I have a 4-yr old and I'm still trying to get caught up on my sleep from the last 4 years!
Hang in there. My second child started sleeping through the night at 6. Years.
My daughter slept through the night from day 1...the first night at the hospital we were all worried because everyone was saying "oh be prepared to never sleep"...I think I can probably count the times she woke up in the night on both hands...we got lucky.
I know what the rules are for down votes. As a father of three children who didn't do that, you are testing it sir!
Seriously, you can't go writing things like that in a public forum. As the father of a toddler I find your experience highly offensive.
VTGuitarMan, what's the call in taunting?
Don't have kids. I'll leave that up to you guys. I'll be like the Slap Bet Commissioner, only in charge of arbitration, not in charge of sentencing.
This is one of the best and most perfectly used reaction gifs I've seen
Ha Ha..downvote if you must, I understand. I'm sure we will get our comeuppance on the next one.
You called?

I see what you did there. You funny guy!
go pack go!
Sorry boys, me and fenix share the same experience. My daughter has been a champion from about day 6. Slept through the night ever since and is 3 now. Getting her to sleep is another thing altogether though
In no way does this belong in a football forum so I apologize but we're already on the subject, so Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit this thing is amazing up until they start crawling. No rolling over, no jerky motions waking them up, my daughter came out with a fro and it kept her from pulling her hair and waking herself up. Now if I put her down for a nap, she laughs as I zip it up and as soon as I put a soothie in her mouth she is out.
Lord, what else are we going to talk about on this site? J/K
Foster put UVA's offense in a Merlin Magic Sleep Suit...
Amirite guys?...... Guys?
Don't leave.
Engineering Genius (oops)!!! (from a father with a 3 yr and 16 mth who both still get up). Really wish I new about this earlier.
*genius
Sorry didn't scroll down! Leg for you!
A friendly word of advice, one Hokie father to another. Every time you go to the store, buy one pack of diapers. You will you won't really notice the added expense if you're like me and go shopping for groceries about once a week. Soon you will amass an impressive collection of Pampers and think, this surely is enough. Keep buying one pack each shopping trip. By the time the baby comes you'll be drowning in diapers and think there's no chance in hell you'll go through them all.
They'll last about a month.
I pray he doesnt make that tentative visit to Oregon. The facilities out there are amazing and I could see him just not coming home from his visit. Lets hope that falls through so FSU is our biggest obstacle to overcome considering how much of an obstacle that already is.
I'm not too worried about Oregon at all. Don't think his family would be down with him going to school that far away.
I heard from #SOURCES (so take with a grain of salt) that Sweat's flight was delayed leaving F$U and he was stuck for a few extra hours at the airport. He apparently wasn't pleased that none of the F$U staff checked up on him. Again, totally unverified and could be false...but would be a weird thing for someone to just make up.
I agree with this, especially how much his mother has been involved with his recruiting and what her opinion means to him.
He brought 7 family members to VT right? dunno, I just don't see him going out of state.
Did they drop him out of a helicopter for that picture!? If he's still OK (after that helicopter drop) he must be pretty tough; I'd like to see him on the Hokies.
I'm in a fantasy football league with the AD for Oscar Smith high school. My buddy "Todd" we'll call him, has not liked VT ever since Greg Boone "wasn't given a real chance at playing QB."
So, we're offering Josh at QB, right?
And that is exactly why recruiting is stupid. There is no way to please every person that has influence in a recruit's decision.
Should clarify that it is EXTREMELY important....but stupid too.
well what about us giving JC MF COLEMAN a shot the past 4 weeks? Granted he has produced but "Todd" has to be impressed with that... amrite?
I think JC Coleman is helping recruiting break through the stone wall that has been Oscar Smith lately. But that wall exists.
"Mr. Coleman, tear down this wall!"
Geez tell Todd to get over it already. Boone threw a couple of passes while at VT. I mean there are more players that come through there and Greg and it's not like it's his kid or something. Maybe he's whispering to Sweat..."don't go to VT....they wont let you play QB...."
I think that whole thing was smoothed over with JC Coleman's recruitment, at least with Oscar Smith's head coach. See McClease and Bradshaw coming to VT in the past year or two.
I think "Todd" is the only one that still cares...
No need for him to throw when he could do this
Am I the only one that sees strinking similarities between Boone and Cordale Jones, Ohio State's new QB, they look the same even down to the face lol, maybe Boone is getting the shot??? lol and maybe that's why Sweat is still considering OSU haha
Those were the best uniforms. I want them back
Take a number and get in line :-)
I don't.
Shame on us for seeing his potential at TE from the start. Its not like there has been a growing demand in all levels of the game for a big physical TE who can run a great route and catch the ball. Definitely a dead end career path to go that route in college.
I can't believe this subthread went this far without anyone mentioning TE, and even when you did, it wasn't a joke. It's like I don't recognize this place anymore.
I've heard this a lot actually. Do any of those guys really think Boone was gonna beat Tyrod out for the qb job?
I went to and played at OFS. Can verify this as 100% accurate. Add Morgan to the list with "Todd" (these are not the droids you're looking for).
EDIT: What is also funny is that if you ask Boone, he loved playing TE and his four years at VT. He was just a baller, didn't care how he saw the field.
Who is our fellow Hokie and TKP'er who discovered his SO's super power that whenever she ran a race on gameday we won? Do you think we can pool our resources to fund a race and day off of work for her next Wednesday?
Paging Ohherro...
I will be SWEATing it out until next week
I cannot wait!!
So by Rivals ranking he would be the 5th highest recruit ever? The others turned out to be "non-busts" I would say!
1-Kevin Jones
8- Marcus Vick
9- Kendall Fuller
27-Tyrod Taylor
31-Sweat?
Who was this "Marcus Vick" you speak of?
Troll game on point
Yep, but according to all other services he would be second to only KJ.
Macho was #28 I believe...
badadada....
THE SWEATSTAKES!!!!!
Well im all suited up in my "expect the worst, hope for the best" pants and ready to go!
Whats the worst???
I really hope this happens. We need this kid.
A bit more on his recruitment:

Edit: Added another link.
Link isn't working for me...
I just clicked it and it went straight there for me, also right clicked it and opened in a new tab correctly. IDK....
Works fine on my phone. Who knows why it wouldnt at work. Thanks for the link.
Its seems that once again, bleacher report has got college football all figured out..
BR Expert "odds" on where he lands
1 - Virginia Tech 3/1
2 - Florida State 4/1
3 - Georgia 6/1
4 - Oregon 8/1
5 - Ohio St 12/1
any word on his injury status?
From the angle of that pic I'd say he can at least do seven feet in the high jump ( and 70 feet in the shot, 300 in the discus, run a 9.1 hundred while stopping for a snack, and long jump out of the stadium). Any track and field coaches trying to snare him from us too?
When Lisa Loeb tweets you, you ask for her help in recruiting Josh Sweat...
At least now I understand why you prefer me in glasses vs contacts.
Wrong glasses...
Those are nice glasses.
hahahaha i love your signature
Christina Hendricks will always get a leg from moi
Who is that?
Is she the one with long hair, the ugly one, or the fat one?
ok....this is pretty funny..lol
Damnit Koastal you're out of your element!
How did no one else throw a leg for a Lebowski/Donny reference?
I always approve of Lebowski references.
At least it's an ethos.
You think the carpet pissers did this?
You missed the 90s, didn't you?

Sweat is playing this one close to the vest. I'm not sure anyone knows anything at this point, and its all pure speculation.
Yeah the way Sweat has handled his recruitment I can't imagine anyone has any idea. He has absolutely no interest in talking to people and publicizing himself.
So you're saying... he's Lunch Pail?
Oh I'm well aware, and I sincerely hope that Mike is wrong.
I'm going on the assumption that he is going to FSU for now so I will not be horribly disappointed when he does (although it will still hurt), and deliriously happy when he commits to the good guys.
Anxiously waiting....
Farrell also had KF to Clemson and Nnadi to VT all the way up until the night before NSD.
Farrell is the kiss of death. Can't count the number of times he's done that over the years.
Supposedly he's visiting with Oregon today, so we didnt actually get the final visit. I dont know if that means anything but I doubt it can be a great sign.....or no sign at all, who knows except Sweat
I don't see any way he goes to Oregon. To me thats just him taking advantage of every OV he can take. From everything that has been said over the past few months, the kid doesn't like to travel and his mother wants him as close to home as possible. Oregon is the furthest thing from both of those.
Given all the hype that Nike U gets for their facilities, I can imagine that if you can get an official visit there, it's kind of like going to the Grand Canyon or Mt. Rushmore....a great sight to see, even if you don't end up there. A recruiting tourist trap of sorts.
Ahem....I think you meant 'supposably'.
Supposably: Capable of being supposed : conceivable
Supposedly: According to what is generally assumed or believed
I think I used it correctly?????
Obviously none of us know him personally, but the way he has handled his entire recruitment has screamed that he is exactly the type of player and person to be here at VT.
Of course I always knew that Sylvester was a chain smoker, but it just started making sense to me once I grew older.
OT.but it is crazy to look back at how cartoons used to be. Could you imagine the outrage if looney toons were to air a cartoon of Sylvester smoking? People would go nuts...
OT: something a friend pointed out to me recently, we all think of Wiley Coyote as a failure because his ideas never worked but we never talk about how AMAZING an artist he is.
OT: I grew up and started looking at that whole dynamic differently. Wile E. is the poster child for perseverance. He has plans that should work, but don't because there must be something against him, yet he keeps trying. I mean, how much do you need to stop? The laws of physics are against him, and he keeps trying. He catches the Roadrunner once, and what does he do? He doesn't know what to do.
Roadrunner caught
Wile E. continues where others would stop. What does that make him?
... and then we all learned that coyotes are actually much faster than roadrunners. That realization marks the end of childhood.
Both "Blackface" Tom and Speedy Gonzalez have been dropped by Time Warner for many years now because they found the characters racist or stereotypical. "Blackface" Tom was in two episodes of Tom and Jerry. Cartoons have changed for the better.

Kinda my point. Instead of mocking innocent people, the current cartoons that push the envelope mock the racists themselves. Trey and Matt do this well.
I loved Speedy! He was so full of life and such a hero.
Seems like Hokie behavior to me.
A lot of crystal balls switching to Fla St, I hope they are wrong.
It's herd mentality. People are flipping from OSU and UGA to FSU. That tells me what we already knew - FSU and VT are the top choices. The first one or two flipped to FSU, then a few other people who are hoping to be right are following suit. Sweat has been playing things very close to the vest, so I truly doubt anyone has any insight here.
Oh, I agree. Sometimes info can come out but Sweat seems to play everything close to the vest. Seems like a cool kid, I just would hate to see him go to FSU.
If things start to trend more away from us on, say, Tuesday night, I might be concerned, assuming of course that he informs the coaching staff sometime soon before his actual announcement.
I feel like we say this every time before an elite talent doesn't commit to VT.
Well, that's true, but there's just such insanity surrounding Sweat. Multiple fake Twitter accounts that start pushing false information, etc. It just seems to me that anyone is ready to pounce on any tiny tidbit that might suggest something, so I have come to believe none of it. Maybe it's only because I've really just started paying attention to recruiting in the last two years or so, but it just blows my mind the amount of willfully fictitious information that has been put out about one guy.
While that's true, every time a big-name recruit considers VT, we're told how this recruit is different from the last one who spurned VT because (insert reason du jour). We're then told that strong evidence suggesting he won't commit to VT should be ignored because (insert reason du jour). The recruit then commits elsewhere and a meltdown occurs. I hope to be wrong this time but this feels like all the other times things have gone badly.
Couldn't agree more...I have very little confidence in him picking VT....on a related note watching Nnadi tonight made me want to throw up
Trevon Hill and Darius Fullwood are more than capable of playing DE for us and beasting once Dadi and Ekanem are gone. Getting Dalton and Sweat just crowds a position and leads to attrition. Ratings mean nothing and Sweat has been injured now, would I like us to get him? Of course! But I won't lose sleep if he chooses to go to FSU. Bud Foster can do with unranked-3 stars what most DC's cannot even do with 4 and 5 star talent. Having said that I feel like Sweat will pick us though, but Hill is equally as good on the field, he was constantly in the Oscar Smith backfield when he was at Salem.
I like your post but disagree that ratings mean nothing. They may very well mean nothing at the end of the day for an individual - but look around this thread to see that ratings absolutely mean something. Also, 50% of 5 star players are drafted to the NFL and I LOVE those odds.
I've seen the stats, but I like our chances at finding a hidden gem that other teams miss, and love that we seek them out Maddy and Byrn are perfect examples.
Yeah if Bud can do that with underrated, imagine what would happen with someone like Sweat.
Best example, Fuller.
I won't melt down, but I will be happy if he comes.
On another note, it would also help with college football perception. One top kid comes, and the others wonder.
Honestly, there is no such thing as "hidden gems" or "diamonds in the rough" anymore when it comes to recruiting due to all of the football camps offered by Nike and college teams, social media, and the internet. Kids have so much publicity nowdays. Yes, Maddy, Byrn, and many more from the 90s and early 00s were under the radar type guys. However, you've gotta look at facts...the best teams are getting the best HS players....and if Tech wants to emerge from a "pretender" to a "contender" then they better start getting top players and keep VA kids in VA...lets get Sweat!
I think the plan is to have Fullwood at DT. Either way Sweat, Hill, Fullwood, Settle, Dalton, etc. is better(by a lot) than just Hill and Fullwood. We need all the d-lineman we can get because we're going to be quite thin on the line after next year. So, guys like Sweat and Dalton aren't over-crowding a position, they're providing us with much needed quality depth and star potential for the future. Just because we don't traditionally get players of Sweat's caliber doesn't mean that we should be content to just continue to take on lower rated guys and hope they develop and work out. Guys with Sweat's hype and potential are program changers, and we need that right now. It's a pretty big deal if we fail to land him IMO.
Is Fullwood at DT now or SDE? They have a habit of getting guys and switching their positions, we are thin because they sent Teller, Smith, and Hansen over to OL and people wonder why we have no depth on the DL. We got Baron, Williams, Walker, Mihota, along with 2 true DT's in this recruiting class not to mention Maddy and Marshall.
Fullwood is very much in the same mold as Marshall. Explosive off the ball, plays inside very well (he plays DT a lot for his school), good body bend and is probably a half-step slow to be a full-time DE. Just seems to fit better there watching his film, regardless of depth chart.
It would be sickening to lose another Va player to Florida St. But I guess I might as well prepare myself for it. I just dont see anyway we come out on top of one of these. And we do need a player like this in our program.
Guys...c'mon. I would love for this guy to choose us. Am I expecting it? Absolutely not. Think back to when you were 18...can u imagine having this choice? Sunny FSU, 2 years undefeated, national championship(s)...compared to a 6-6 VT squad in Blacksburg? Don't get me wrong, VT is a slice of Heaven to me. But for us Hokie die-hards to sit here and think with confidence that this kid is coming, is well, a bit of a pipe dream. I hope I'm dead wrong on this, but where there's smoke, there's usually fire. CB's trending to FSU definitely have me concerned. This guy has stated he wants to play with great DB's, great LB's, the best DLine. I know we're tough, and I love Bud, but c'mon. Right now we're trying to sell this kid a Ford Focus and FSU is offering him a Benz. I think two factors play in our favor:
1. Momma Sweat loves VT.
2. The use of DE's in our defense.
Anything more, and we're playing second fiddle to FSU.
Chris Coleman on the JD Howle show (espnblacksburg) reported that Nnadi has been in Sweat's ear, and seeing him play in the ACC Championship game, I am sure he is giving him very good reasons to go there.
Shut up Derrick, you're ruining this for us...
I find it funny that Bud drives a Ford Focus and you compared us to a Focus.
Edit: ***Wrong thread***
FWIW, supposedly when he visited Oregon this weekend their entire defensive coaching staff and head coach were all out of town (Hawaii I believe) recruiting someone else.
that's a clown move, bro.
"So yeah, Josh, enjoy the waterfall. There should be some bagel bites in the freezer, and the Dominos number is on the fridge. We'll send you a postcard"
That leads me to believe they have a strong feeling they have no chance at getting him. Why waste the resources and time when it could better be used on recruits they may actually get?
That must be one hell of a recruit to not only skip Josh Sweat's visit, but also the Pac-12 championship game.
I call BS on this story...
The game was in San Fran at 49ers stadium and held on Friday night. Know for a fact that at least HC was in Hawaii this weekend recruiting, do not know about rest of staff.
Damn, I forgot the game was relatively early Friday night...west coast time. I was thinking it was a Saturday game.
But Sweat arrived Sat afternoon and wasn't supposed to leave until Sunday night. It's a long flight, but it's not hard to imagine the coach(s) getting back late Sat for time with Sweat on Sunday.
I hope they didn't have the cheerleading squad show him around.....that could be trouble.
Oregon doesn't have a cheerleading squad they have playmate potentials on a 4 year party training camp.
Been there several times.
No more than any other school, unless you find raincoats and sweatshirts sexy.
I don't see Oregon as that big of a threat as it is, and certainly not now.
IMO, its going to be us or FSU, and I really hope he stays with the good guys.
Only reason I know about Oregon HC being in Hawaii was he was unavailable for interview Sunday for playoff show.
Only reason I can imagine for a guy, whose mom wants him to stay close to home, to go to Oregon on a recruiting trip is to see the facilities.
What other chance would he ever get to see what the hype is all about? Probably not even considering them, just wanted to visit.
I think the writing is on the wall. Jimbo I hear is planning to visit Sweat Tuesday night. Last impression means a lot especially from the head coach who has a National Title and has not lost a game in 2 years!
If we could just close on these in-state top tier guys, we'd be singing championship songs ourselves. I think the future is bright, but it will be or take a few more years. Patience!
So where the hell will Frank be? Does he have plans?
Gotta admit it'd be hella cool if as Jimbo is walking up to the door, it opens and Frank steps out, pats Jimbo on the back, and strolls to his car.
Frank is having throat surgery
Yep, hopefully Sweat can respect that fact and I think he will. Going to be tough to beat out FSU at this point though.
Hopefully Sweat can see through Jimbo. Listening to him stick up for JW every half-time interview was hard for me. It's one thing to stand by a player, but Jimbo ENABLES Jameis' poor behavior.
Finding a coach who knows that difference is important.
Man, I couldn't agree more. I am learning to hate FSU for what they represent.
Jimbo is trying hard to stick by his players after someone leaked him saying that EJ Manuel wasn't an NFL QB and not to pick him.
Jimbo seems like the kinda guy who needs a small village of support idiots to keep him from shooting himself and others in the foot. Hopefully he gets a little inappropriately unchained tonight. Unfortunately the guy seems able to close.
Yeah I'm aware. Just wanted to try to introduce some levity. Pretty tense in here.
On second thought, it'd be cooler I'd it was Foster that opened the door. Then he and Jimbo would just stare at each other for a moment in silence. Then Bud would spear him, Edge style.
Or maybe Jimbo thinks he's lost him and is trying a last gasp effort? Trying to stay positive.
I hope we get Sweat and Gaines, along with keeping Hill and Fullwood. Behind Dadi and Ekanem that is some nasty depth. I wonder if Melvin Keihn would be better going back to LB or playing LB and DE. I do believe he played both in HS.
Either way a lot of teams ought to fear Buds D for years to come...
Keihn will move back to LB soon. He's undersized for a LB but absolutely tiny for a DE. He was moved there simply because it was an emergency and it was the only way he'd see the field as a freshman.
the number of predictions of Sweat going to FSU is making me nervous. Bud needs sweat for the biggest game in college football in 2016.
That is the same website that predict Settle going to Clemson and the next 2 schools aren't on his top 4 list either. I'm not highly hopeful but, don't listen to the predictions :)
Been hearing that the coaches/recruiting staff feel pretty good about it.
Sweat rarely talks to anyone- I think people are flipping because FSU is the "logical" choice for many.
Also, Mom > Nnadi.
Sweat wants to play DE though, not O-line...
Which is actually why Georgia is essentially out of it, as of right now. They want him as an OLB.
I honestly believe that Bud's system is the best one for Sweat out of the three. Charles Kelly has had his DE's drop back into coverage a fair bit, as does Georgia with their OLB. Bud has done a lot more to give the DE's chances to get to the quarterback this year as well.
Should be noted that neither FSU or Georgia are top 25 in any DL-related category this year...
Better chance of making the All-ACC team at FSU though. Evidently. #StillSalty
Saw earlier post about Nnadi in his ear. Agree mom is better. However, I also saw tha the Smith was chatting him up.
Bruce > Nnadi
Guys don't get too excited at least not until Wednesday ;) that's all I will say
Offer Sweat a JJ Watts suite of plays as the goalline TE........hes a great athlete. Might interest him.
Deshawn working it...

Love this by DeShawn...haha...
but what this tells me is NOBODY knows. His Mom might not even know.
For such a young guy, it is amazing how the dude can keep a secret.
Which tells me he is exactly the kind of personality we want anchoring the defense. All business, totally professional. Mature beyond his years.
Makes me think of this.

Mmmmm.... everlasting beef.....

I'm almost more nervous about the Sweat decision than I am for my accounting final. Is that bad?
What? No. That's completely normal. Why is this even a question?
I have to do two papers in two days and all my background research has been done on this site, so I'm pretty much guaranteed an A+
Not at all. The Sweat decision will have a larger impact on the rest of your life.
Seriously, when does anybody use accounting...or numbers for that matter???
Very bad sign for us; Oscar Smith AD going to pick up Jimbo Fisher at the Norfolk airport tomorrow. (Saw it in a text from him.)
Not sure what the crystal balls say but I'm pretty sure that's a bad sign.
welp
Yeah, I expect Sweat to go to FSU, even though he would make more of an impact at VT. But, honestly, is this not what everyone is expecting? Maybe I'm just jaded to this yearly occurrence at this point.
#SOURCES
Thats because the Oscar Smith AD is a bit of an asshole when it comes to us because he's still upset to this day that we played Boone at TE instead of QB. Not surprised he's pulling out the stops to get Sweat to not come to us.
It is ridiculous that has that opinion, because Boone ('04-'09) was honestly dealt with by the VT staff and wound up enjoying playing TE. He just wanted to be on the field and make a difference. They sat him down after his RS year and explained how they thought he could be an impact player after a year or two at TE or he could choose to stay at QB and have little chance of catching up / surpassing Sean Glennon ('04-'08) then as it turns out we added Tyrod Taylor ('07-'10) the next year which further cemented Boone at the bottom of the QB depth chart.
Every time he took the field, the crowd cheered "BOOOOOOOOONNNNEEE!"
He performed and had 65k+ people cheering him on constantly. I doubt he had many complaints.
Could this be a sign of desperation? Like he was leaning VT and it took Jimbo Fisher to come up and see him. I mean that is a lot of effort for someone who would be leaning to his school. I just hope we make some kind of effort to talk with the kid before hand. I am so annoyed with watching VA athletes play for other state teams. It sucked watching Nnadi making plays in the ACCCG for FSU, but the Hokie in me says good for him...
Or he could just be an accommodating dude familiar with the realities of taxi service in greater Hampton Roads.
If I'm a high school coach and I have a chance to take a car ride with a national champion coach, I'm picking him up at the airport, no question...
As far as I know my buddies turned down the chance to go meet Jimbo! I'm outa town myself or I would have gone.
Friend: "Hello"

"Hey, it's Jimbo"
Friend: "What's up?"
"Yeah, I need a favor, I'm at ORF and I left my wallet in Tally, can you pick me up?"
Friend: "Yeah, I'm kinda busy now, Rat".
well, we gotta try to keep at it, get other guys. You want the big fish off course but let's at least try to get the next best available. Houshoun Gaines is still out there, plus its Bud, he can put a 220 pounder at DE and still cause havoc.
lets not give up on Sweat now guys I think we're gonna be pretty happy tomorrow if my source is right
Ah, sources.
I am mad at you for giving me hope.

Another key element of what happens whenever a big name recruit doesn't pick VT.
I believe I read he is announcing at 10am tomorrow. Anyone know if that is still correct?
Correct
How do people know that Jimbo is flying in and the AD is picking him up??? How do people come up with that stuff sitting on their laptops?
There are flight tracker websites that hard-core people pore over during recruiting and coach search seasons.
In this particular case, I believe I heard that the AD tweeted it himself.
that is disgusting...
The AD texted it, not tweeted it; We're in a fantasy football league together.
he should get blasted for sure. IDGAF if i'm best friends with the guy but holding a grudge over 1 player is pretty low life.
Some people live this shit, man.

Damn, don't look good for the Hokies. Wonder if the current players care about announcements like this....
Holy crap. I'm. Holy crap. You guys are killing me!!!
Just stop talking about sweat.. Pant pant.
Is it wednesday yet?
